Unpopular opinions

  • Basically your opinions about volleyball that not many other people share. Saw this on some other forum and thought it might be fun.

    I'll start:

Poland lost the Olympics only because of the media overhype. First they spoiled us, then they broke us and we've been suffering ever since.
Paweł Zatorski is not NT material.

Wlazły will never be back to true international level, form-wise. He shouldn't even waste his time trying.

  • -Lo Bianco is as slow as a turtle.

People still think she should be starter for the italian NT.

-Gioli should know her volleyball days are over. :wavy:

People say her 15% spiking is setters' fault.

-Lindsey Berg is as hot as hell to me.

People say she is not a beauty.

  • -Uriarte is potentially better than De Cecco

-Argentina (Men) will be a top 4 side in two years time.

-UPCN will win southamerican club championship for the second consecutive year

Yes, I'm a poor delusional guy :cheesy:

  • -Piccinini is still the best option for Italian NT
    -Larson is a bitch
-Sheilla is the best overall volleyball player from the past 10 years
-Mari will never play volleyball in high level again (she should retire)
    -Kosheleva is not all that

  • All right....
    - "Trash-talking" has always been a part of the game and even makes it more interesting. People should stop whining..... :box:
    - FiVB should stop awarding world ranking points for tournaments, for which they sell wild cards.
    - Dragan Travica is a good setter :super:

    :drink:

  • -Uriarte is potentially better than De Cecco

    High five! :drink:

YES! I also secretly love it when a player celebrates straight in the face of his opponent  (unless it's my team, of course!)

I've got one more, but it's rather personal, so more of a confession I guess. I want Jastrzębski to qualify for F4 this season. Resovia yet again seem to have no balls in Europe and it seriously pisses me off. It's like they're constantly unprepared.

We should consider founding a "Spiridonov fan-club"

  • -I'm in love with Spiridonov's attitude: I found him so funny! :cheesy:

-On the other side Gamova is nasty to me. Don't blame me, please! :obey:

-And this is not volleyball: Sharapova's best tennis moment to me was when Azarenka scremed on her face "bitch". :dance6: I don't like Sharapova as tennis player and I'm not sorry.

  • We should consider founding a "Spiridonov fan-club"

You know... He can be amusing alright, but I prefer the kind of attitude Fonteles has (even if it can backfire and be destructive for his own team). Or Kubiak. The way Kubiak messed with Italians during the World Cup in Japan was pure gold :D Spiridonov, on the other hand, sometimes crosses the line of simply being obscene.

  • Bulgarian female NT has bigger potential than Bulgarian male NT - Vasileva, Rabadjieva, monsters opposite Nikolova and two monster MB's -Filipova and Ruseva.

  • Both Bosetti sisters are way overrated and won't bring Italy any international medals. Italian NT needs stronger OHs.

  • Gamova is one of the greatest players of all time. I like it when she shows a little attitude, but I hate it when she goes over the top with it at times. However Obmochaeva will probably never be on the same level as Gamova.

Men's volleyball is quite boring overall and way too determined by physical features of the players rather than technical ability.

VfB Friedrichshafen is the most annoying male team out there (of those I know, I don't know too many :D ), especially Simeonov and Yosifov.

  • Chemistry in a team is important but players do not need to be friends, or braid each other's hair, or hang out and have beers together. As long as players are on the same page when it comes to playing, you can be successful.

Indoor fans who bash beach volleyball underestimate how tough a sport it is.

Beach fans who bash indoor volleyball overestimate how tough their sport is.

I don't agree with fans who hype a new favorite player by describing them to be "the next [insert name of current great player]".
Why not view the new player as their own person?

When a sports commentator doesn't know much about the women teams that are playing and he starts to talk instead about his experience in mens volleyball, he sounds ridiculous and paper planes made of media guides should be sent sailing at him.

A drinking game should be conducted where you take a drink whenever:
    - Angelo Vercesi dives for a ball while he is coaching
    - Kazan screams at an opponent
    - a Brazilian coach complains a call
    - Cuba makes a hitting error
    - Hugh McCutcheon gives an inspirational message in a timeout

I disagree with fans who think they are entitled to players' time/space/privacy. When a player doesn't pause to sign autographs after a bad loss, it is not because they are sore losers. The time right after matches is important to process losses.

I equally disagree with media personnel who shove microphones into players' faces 3 minutes after a loss and expect the player to give a profound analysis of the match.

Fans who complain that volleyball tournaments are always in Asia or Japan should experience how well Japan takes care of the teams' lodging, food, transportation, etc.

Players should be themselves when they play. But they should try to be a good version of themselves whenever possible.

Not sure I can post about specific players..

  • 1. Dinamo Kazan (incl Gamova etc) are not arrogant at all. It is funny to read that "arrogance is their tactics". The debate about their performance vs Volero on this forum, 3 pages of gossip about "girls behaving badly" and nothing on sports, is futile. Kazan got ignited after the ball that was a meter in was ruled as "out" at the line judge's prompt. In a way, a classical bit of home refereeing but the ball was going way too in and way too slow. In a normal team, a coach should resolve these issues, one solid "shut up and play you lazy bitches!" does normally a good job. In Kazan, due to a serious case of Dutch- "Gamova" disease, the coach cannot say things like that. Overall, Kazan are a boring team, unless kicked in the ass. As for the trash talking, any of the famous male performers like Zaytsev, not talking about Spiridonov, will easily outweigh the whole girly outfit.

    2. Volleyball does not make any economical sense. Every successful team is a product of a generous business or an ambitious politician. In this respect, de-internationalization and limits for foreign players (but not for foreign specialists!) may actually help to improve the competitivity and the quality of the national championships and national teams.

    3. The future of volleyball in Russia totally depends on the performance of three national teams. These are Russian football, ice hockey and basketball national teams. The fiasco of the hockey team at Sochi Olympics (would it happen) may help to dramatically increase the investment into volleyball and in the long-term perspective, even make it sellable. As it is, Alexei Spiridonov has done more for volleyball popularity in Russia than the whole national team that won Olympics.

    4. The changes in the rules introduced in 1998 (libero, scoring system, net touch on the serve..) have improved the TV picture a lot but at the same time made the game less democratic and therefore less popular. The scoring system was a brilliant idea but otherwise the changes have compromised the position of a skillful all-round player. Now it is the sport for giant super-servers who do not need to be able to receive or set the ball at all.

    5. Most of the players on the avatars of the forum members are nothing but silly self-enamoured mediocricies :).

Can you differentiate for me: foreign players and foreign specialists? Thank you

  • Almost all industries need strong help from a business company or an unfair advantage from government services.

More foreigners the better, it is up to the locals on how they will compete for a starting spot.

all this the past generation is better blah blah blah should stop, different era brings different challenges and the people who are able to excel in these challenges are the ones that should be called legends. In fact why dont we do this: build a time machine then transport players of 1997 to year 2012 and vice versa afterwards the group who can adapt easily is the better one.

Gamova maybe a bitch but she is the best opposite of the last decade in terns of impact (castro for overall skills)

Karpol is not needed anymore, if after 15+ years and there are still individuals who cant behave themselves properly then something is wrong with the formula.

I wish players like lang ping and motoko obayashi wwere able to be given a chance to play in europe during those times so that we will know if kim is the only unique player from asia.

  • 1.Beside Mireya Louis . Sheilla is kinda enough to be queen . But Logan Tom is a real QUEEN .

Gamova ? shut the fuck up , not even close to be queen. only her high that makes her can stand in world volleyball , Spiking is not everything .

    2. Kim Y.K. is better than Lang Pingm better than Mammadova .

    3. I like the way Werblinska plays than Skowronska .

    4. Larson is so so spiker.

5.Davis is the most terrible Libero of all time in USA NT.

6.Texeira is the player that can play 2 hands . I don't know where she is right now .

    7. Thailand team is the most annoying team [maybe in a good way] they played too fast and always smile . [WTF are you smiling ?!!! you are losing this match]

    8. Ruciak is useless in NT .

9.Alessandro Fei is better when he plays OPP than MB .

    10. Lasko won't back to NT even though he wants to , they have better option than him .

    11. Thaisa has biggest BOOM BOOM .

    12. Kurek can be better than he is if he play as an OPP .
