  • That was a good game. A nice addition to Christmas day. Kazan won 3-1 against Krasnodar.

I missed it but will rewatch it. I need a link to rewatch the Moscow-Omichka match.

Question - I am still getting use to the rules of Volleyball. In the Kazan-Krasnodar match, Ambroskina did not suit up as libero. She came in the second set when Kazan leading 23-20. What position did she play?

I don't know what the situation was, but if the libero is 'unable to play' than another player can come in and play as libero. Thing is the original libero can't come back till the end of the game

Likely a backrow passing substitute (passing/defensive specialist).

  • It was a very good game indeed. And it showed that not everything is that bright in Krasnodar team right now. I was kind of expecting these problems from the start of the season, it's not a secret that Kosha and Lyuba are not the best friends ever, so it should've affected the whole collective. And yesterday Kosha was not happy with the way Fabiola was setting, shouting Give the ball to me, but Fabiola insisted more on setting to Garay, who, to be honest, isn't scoring that good. Kosha had some anger talk with Garay as well. Krasnodar needs strong coach right now or else they will never become a real team. Too many stars with big egos.
On the other side I'm very happy for young Russian OH Olesya Nikolayeva, who has been given a chance and she had a great game. I wish she would play more instead of Yaneva who is in terrible form right now. Looks like Gamova is hitting her incredible heights of form again, yesterday she was just unstopable, but the way she's behaving on court - I have to agree sometimes she does look insane.

  • About Gamova, her childish celebration after the victory indeed looked quite insane, but I kind of like that about her :D

About Krasnodar, I noticed some incident in 4th set: Pasynkova replaced Kosheleva in backrow, then when she rotated to frontrow, Kosheleva returned and during the substitution Pasynkova said something to her, and Kosheleva looked very confused about it and stared after Pasynkova after that as if she had said something (negatively) surprising, I wonder what happened there...

I also don't like the idea of using Calderon as normal OPP, she's not that good from pos. 2 as from 4 in my opinion.

Yes, sometimes she acts quite sweet actually)) After the game she ran to Nikolayeva, hugged her and said something like: Very good game, girl!! Congrats!! Nikoalyeva's face showed so much surprise and happiness. I think she was flattered by this treatment from the Diva of Russian volleyball. Gamova is clearly "the mom" of the team, she's talking to other players between the points, but as I see it always in a positive manner. If she gets upset she channels it towards referees or opponents, but never towards teammates. For example, Kosheleva can be very negative towards her teammates, I've seen it several times.

  • Semisonic, thanks for the report. Did you also watched Moscow X Omichka? I was very surprised by the result. Omichka looks on the rise and Moscow destroyed them.

Yes, I've seen that game. Omichka started very well, the first set was very colose, Omsk was leading most of the time, but some very bad sets from Sheshenina at the end gave the set to Moscow. After that Omichka pretty much gave up the game, Terzic made a lot of substitutions. Everyone understand that Omsk and Moscow will beat Cherepovets team from the second league, will go to semis and there the real game will start. Good thing for Omsk - Shlyakhovaya was playing, bad thing - Orlova is injured now(
Marchenko had a very good game, both she and Markova were impressive in reception, I hope it won't be the one and only time in the season.

  • IMO the best for Krasnodar is Garay, Kosheleva and Sokolova/Pasynkova. Calderon has to be sub for Garay or Kosheleva.

I personally want Kosheleva to play with reception, so she would practice it more for NT. So my best is Kosha, Calderon and Garay/Sokolova. With Pasynkova sub for Kosha when Tanya is sinking badly in reception. Garay-Sokolova-Pasynkova aren't scoring well. Only Kosha as a firepower isn't enough IMO.

  • Likely a backrow passing substitute (passing/defensive specialist).

    Ah ok, thank you.

I agree Krasnodar needs a strong coach for them and I am not sure this coach is it. I also agree that Garay isn't playing well right now. I prefer Calderon to start instead of her.Calderon should be a starter so if she is only going to be a sub this year, she should go to a different team at the end of the season, if things don't change. Fabiola had some bad sets but Kosha does need to try and reign in her frustration. I think with Calderon hitting on one
side and Kosheleva the others, it will be difficult for teams.

Thanks for saying who the OH was for Kazan, I was wondering who she was.

  • Thing is if Garay is out then the only replacement for her would be Pasynkova because Calderon can't pass and that way they don't really get anything special because Pasynkova can help in terms of attack the same as Garay. I guess they could play with 2 person reception with Sokolova and Kosheleva as OH, Kosheleva not passing and Calderon OPP. Then Sokolova and Krychkova will pass and Calderon and Kosheleva receive. Then when Kosheleva or Calderon is backrow Garay/Pasynkova should come in and pass.. This line up looks best for me

That could work, they've played couple games where Garay was on the bench and didn't play at all. While Calderon/Kosheleva started and they won those and looked fine to me. Garay has had some problems with reception as well.
