As far as I know, A libero can lead the team but officially can't be the captain of one's team.

ok,thanks..
Last season, Merlo was the capitan in Bergamo...but during the matches, Blagojevic answered the ref when needed.

I was 99% sure of the answer, but decided to take a took at the FIVB's official rules anyway.
"The Liberos cannot be either team or game captain."
I thought the new rules might allow some changes regarding the libero, but obviously they don't.

A post of mine from 2012:
QuoteRule changes have been accepted for the time period 2013 - 2016! I guess
they will be introduced as of 01.01. 2013 already. Those include no
penalty for being shown a single yellow card, suspension and lost serve
would be applied by showing a red card. Serve reception is also
modified, as well as libero freedom on court. FIVB released the set of
new official game rules for both outdoor and indoor versions of the
game. -
