Germany - Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) 2014/15

  • 02.11.14 VfB Friedrichshafen vs. BERLIN RECYCLING Volleys 3:2 (16:25, 18:25, 25:15, 25:20, 15:09)

All wing spikers from Berlin are below 40% in attack and as soon as VfB started hitting more serves and making less faults they were in trouble. The connection between Tischer and his attackers became better from set to set and especially van Garderen was on fire in the last sets.

In Lebedews place i would worry a bit about the bench players. Neither Kühner nor de Marchi had a positive impact on the game. Imo, they even made things worse.

  • This weekend:
    08.11.14 BERLIN RECYCLING Volleys vs. CV Mitteldeutschland (18.30 CET one-camera-stream www.vbl.tv )
    08.11.14 CLOUD&HEAT VOLLEY DRESDEN vs.TSV Herrsching
    08.11.14 SWD powervolleys DÜREN vs. NETZHOPPERS KW-Bestensee (19.30 CET one-camera-stream www.vbl.tv )
08.11.14 TV Ingersoll Bühl vs. VfB Friedrichshafen
08.11.14 VSG Coburg/Grub vs. TV Rottenburg

No transmission of Bühl vs. Friedrichshafen :white:

Anyway, Düren vs. Netzhoppers should be a nice match as well. Netzhoppers are an enjoyable team to watch. With Manuel Rieke, they have one of the better setters in the league and they play a fine and fast offensive game. In the end, their OH might lack a bit of athleticism but they are far away from being cannon fodder.

  • 08.11.14 BERLIN RECYCLING Volleys vs. CV Mitteldeutschland 3:0 (25:16,25:23,28:26)
    stats: http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2014-15/Men/&1028.pdf
The match was obviously more tight than expected and Berlin was a bit lucky to make it in three. Both main attackers, Kromm and Dünnes with very bad numbers for attack (18% / 22%).

    08.11.14 CLOUD&HEAT VOLLEY DRESDEN vs.TSV Herrsching 3:2 (25:22,32:34,25:19,21:25,21:19)

    stats: http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2014-15/Men/&1025.pdf
Just caught some rallies of the third set and have to admit that, well, netzhoppers looked a bit like cannon fodder. My predictions...... 8)

08.11.14 TV Ingersoll Bühl vs. VfB Friedrichshafen 0:3 (22:25,13:25,23:25)
    stats: http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2014-15/Men/&1027.pdf
Convincing victory for VfB and great numbers for all wing-spikers (57% overall).

    08.11.14 VSG Coburg/Grub vs. TV Rottenburg 2:3 (25:22,18:25,25:17,15:25,8:15)
    stats: http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2014-15/Men/&1026.pdf

  • No real surprises on german cup but "thumbs up" for Solingen (2nd division) for the tight result vs. Friedrichshafen and for Mainz (3rd division) for stealing a set against Lüneburg. The draw for the quarterfinal will take place today.

  • I could never understand a schedule in which a team has to play two matches per weekend. And quite often these two are away from home, thus requires travelling immediately after the first game on Friday or Saturday. Very typical for all German leagues, regardless of the level. In my modest opinion, this is not how it should be done and it's not professional at all.

In the Bundesliga, these fixtures usually involve VCO Berlin, where most of the teams should win with ease, BR Volleys and Netzhoppers (almost Berlin). I think that the teams have to agree to that kind of fixture. Rather poor teams like Herrsching and Dresden will appreciate that they have less travel expenses.

  • Rottenburg is the only unbeaten team so far in the league. However, against Dueren at home they scored their fourth consecutive tie-break win. Hence their third position.

Indeed, hats off to Rottenburg and what they make out of a comparatively low budget. Their long-time coach Müller-Angstenberger (a bit of a german version of Angelo Vercesi 8) ) is doing a very good job over the last years and is constantly building teams which play with a lot of enthusiasm. Good to see as well that Tom Strohbach is playing good as well. In that way he will probably get another chance for the NT in summer.

A bit late, but for the record:
14.11.14 VCO Berlin vs. TSV Herrsching 0:3 (19:25,13:25,22:25)
15.11.14 BERLIN RECYCLING Volleys vs. TSV Herrsching 3:1 (22:25,25:23,25:15,25:17)

    23.11.14 - 18.00 - VfB Friedrichshafen vs. CV Mitteldeutschland

All matches, besides the VCO Berlin match, will be streamed as one-camera-production on http://www.vbl.tv.

Most interesting match, at least for me, is the match Düren vs. Lüneburg. Lüneburg did really well so far, but haven't played a real "big team" yet. Their transfers look great so far, especially the libero Mattson and dutch OH Tijmen Laane could impress, so i hope they will be competitive in Düren as well.

  • Clear statements of the favourite teams. No room for surprises yesterday.

    22.11.14 - 18.30 - BERLIN RECYCLING Volleys vs. NETZHOPPERS KW-Bestensee 3:0 (25:14,25:18,25:13)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2014-15/Men/&1040.pdf
Good match by Dünnes, De Marchi once again the weak link. The club will seriously think about signing another OH. Over 4000 people attended the match 8o

    22.11.14 - 17.00 - CLOUD&HEAT VOLLEY DRESDEN vs. TV Rottenburg 0:3 (23:25,17:25,23:25)

    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2014-15/Men/&1154.pdf
VCO still managed to loose from leading 2:0 and 14:4 in the third set. Oh boys......

    23.11.14 - 18.00 - VfB Friedrichshafen vs. CV Mitteldeutschland 3:0 (25:17,25:16,25:16)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2014-15/Men/&1038.pdf

The ranking is slowly getting into its "natural order". Rottenburg still in a good position but they haven't played Berlin/Friedrichshafen/Bühl yet so they still might drop one or another place. Dresden looks like the most likely candidate for relegation but nothing is decided yet.

    matches/points
    1. Friedrichshafen 7 / 18
    2. Berlin 7 / 18
    3. Rottenburg 7 / 17
    4. Düren 7 / 15
    5. Bühl 6 / 13
    6. Netzhoppers 7 / 11
    7. Lüneburg 6 / 11
    8. CV Mitteldeutschland 8 / 7
    9. TSV Herrsching 8 / 7
    10. Coburg/Grub 7 / 6
    11. VCO Berlin 8 / 4
    12. Dresden 8 / 2

26.11.14 SVG Lüneburg vs. CLOUD&HEAT VOLLEY DRESDEN
27.11.14 TSV Herrsching vs. VfB Friedrichshafen

Interesting match in Rottenburg. Under normal circumstances, Berlin clearly should be the better team but Rottenburg at home is hard to beat, although Berlin should be warned and will probably play the best squad.

Rather surprising defeats for Bühl and Düren against Netzhoppers and Coburg 8o
Only judging by numbers, Berlin made a good match in Rottenburg and hopefully they are back in track. Even De Marchi with good numbers. Felix Fischer with 12/15 in attack

Important win for Bühl against Rottenburg. If they had lost they would have been in trouble, now they are back in track for their race for place 3/4. i am already looking forward to seeing them next week in Lüneburg. 8o

  • Bad news from Dresden. Yesterday, the club filed for insolvency.

At the moment it is questionable, whether the team will travel to the match in Düren. That would lead to an automatic exclusion from the league by the VBL. In this case, all matches with involvement of Dresden would be excluded from the ranking.
Due to some contractional problems/arguments within the clubs organisation, some sponsors stopped their payments, which led to the current situation.

The team will travel at their own expenses to Düren, although they haven't received their november salaries, so an exclusion from the league is at least delayed......
