2018 FIVB World Championship - Japan

  • Bartsch-Hackley and Lowe started the match. Hill and Bartsch in the pass did not work.

  • Injury List:

Korea: Yang Hyo-jin(MB) and Lee So-young(OH)

    Thailand: Pimpichaya(OPP) - A possible knee injury

I think someone mentioned Argentina has 2 injured players as well from a collision with each other.

And yeah for Pimpichaya, looks like a knee injury. Saw a small clip recently and she has bandage on her knee and in a wheel chair.

Yes. Clarissa Sagardia (setter) and Tatian Rizzo (libero). Both are out of competition.

The photo on volleyball.it rather looks like the ice is a bit lower, more on her thigh than on the knee. Maybe a muscle issue? She didn't actually seem in a lot of pain but they carried her off the court, the whole situation was a bit strange.

That looks like her calf to me, not her knee nor her thigh

  • After the match with the Russian Team on Sep.,30, 2018, Pimpichaya Kokram was so tired that she had no strength to walk. She was carried on the back from the court by Wilavan Apinyapong.

  • That looks like her calf to me, not her knee nor her thigh

Actually calf is what I meant, I confused the words :aww:

I guess that's the price for the Thai team playing waaaaay too many matches this summer with the same roster. Onuma is dead on her feet, Ajcharaporn and Chatchu-On are half-healthy at best, Hattaya got injured earlier and now Pimpichaya too. And preliminary isn't even over yet...

They should have deployed the other squad for the 2018 AVC (Asian) Cup that was completed on 23 September, so many matches there to determine the final rank from #1 to the last spot, #10, some teams (like IRI vs AUS) even amazingly played each other thrice on different stages :-) the THA squad played till the last day. But as the host, it might be a quandary for them. I just hope the injury ain't serious, Pimpichaya Kokram is the rising star within the Thai team... the trip here is still long too. May every player in this event be safe and no more injury.

  • ITALY, USA, RUSSIA, CHINA ON TO SECOND ROUND AT JAPAN 2018

Lausanne, Switzerland, October 2, 2018 – Italy and China recorded their third straight-set victories in Pool B on Tuesday to make certain their participation in the second round of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Japan. In Pool C, USA and Russia also stayed unbeaten and secured their spots among the best 16 of the tournament.

With an impeccable record of 9-0 in sets each, Italy and China top the current Pool B standings (in that order on point ratio) and have both secured their progression into the next round. With USA and Russia leading the pool standings with three wins each, they can no longer be surpassed by winless Korea and Trinidad & Tobago and hence are sure to finish among the top four.

    -----------------------

It's my very first time to watch the Canadian women's volleyball team playing. The team was surprisingly playing good, interesting volleyball, an improved performance over its two earlier matches (which I have not yet watched), judging from both the scorelines and the match performance itself against CHN team (esp. the first two sets), as well as per the comment by the FIVB match commentator, the soft-spoken nice guy, Louis / Lewis (!?) whom? Lennox !? The team has a depressing schedule that its first three matches were all against the big teams, thus lost in 0-9 sets. Yet it may likely register the better outcome as of its 4th match, at least to earn some set.

Here's the full match replay (720P) of CHN v CAN with the Chinese commentary, and the female commentator is Wei Qiu-ye, the former famous NT setter.

And here's the face time of the Canadian lovely libero, Jessica Niles (club: ATSC Kelag Wildcats; born 1993-07-14; 176 cm), as spotted by the cameraman

Thailand Volleyball Association posted video clip of Pimpichaya and update her injury that it is minor issue and cancel the trip to hospital. Team doctor will check her knee again in the morning.

Below is video after the match, Pimpichaya still smiles, laughs and she said that she can play in tomorrow's match with USA. So her injury shouldn't be serious.

Yes, next WCH will be in the Netherlands.

  • someone was complaining about how early the teams have to play... the earliest matches are 13:40 in the afternoon (local time), it seems. not ideal but not as bad as in the olympics or previous tournaments (W Cup?), when they played at 10 in the morning?

i can stay up a little bit and catch some of the early matches (it's 00:40 here) until sportsdeutschland kicks me out, so i watched a little bit of CUB x ITA last night. it seems CUB went back to 6-2 system!!!!! with 2 setters (moreno and sabin, where's santas?) but the setters didn't seem to get many sets when they were in front row... the team is truly a mess.

truly, fivb, CUB, TTO and MEX should not have been here... instead it should be POL, BEL and COL. well, at least MEX beat ARG, and TTO got a set from THA, at least they won't go without winning at least a set.

ARG actually played well against GER in the 2nd set (i saw the end of it)... too bad sosa doesn't have much support from the rest of the team. she can't do it all.
