Qualification tournament for the World Grand Prix 2008

  • This is not fault of Poland. Poland want go to Ankara, but we won't go here in best squad. Someone can say that this would be not fair for teams in second group. Decision of CEV is eyeopener in Poland, too.
I don't know why you have quibble, that Poland will play in GP 2008 without qualfication. Italy played two years, too and this was;nt problem to anyone. Asian teams also must not qualify.
I think that decision FIVB, about participating Poland in GP 2008 is caused the fact that Poland organized this year World League Final Round, when Italy has resigned and FIVB didn't know what make.

I think that some teams would be happy. One very good rival, won't play in qualfication :)

  • Well, this is not the first time (and will not be the last one) that FIVB (Acosta and friends) does weird things to favor certain teams "in the name of developing volleyball all over the world".

If I remember well in 1996 Russia was eliminated from participating in Atlanta 96 until the genious decided to include russia in the African preolimpic tournament........ same thing happened again in 2004 with Dominican Republic (eliminated in Norceca preolimpic tournament) and in the last minute was included in the Southamerican tournament....  :?

I'm not against Poland and I'm not envious either, however I like equally treatment to all the countries and transparency from FIVB to apply the rules, that's all.

and whoever thinks it's not about money, is dreaming and living in an unreal world :?

xopxeech, you are totally right. This is not the first time, and not the last time.

I totally agree with him, and you when you say about the other teams that also have wild card for nothing, let's say so. I have a problem with aaaaall of them. I'd have a problem with my own NT if that happened too.

I just don't understand what was the point of the 9 players rule until now...

    Exactly :!:

  • Yes, it was so many cases, and now a big quibble to Poland. I don't understand it.

And Acosta said, that is reward for Poland, because volleyball is very popular in our country and everyone should take a exemplification from Poland. Acosta said, that volley in Poland developed a lot for a few last years and Poland should be in this big volleyball family.

    :wink2:

I'm feeling out of the big volleyball family, now :beee:
I hope they host a GP weekend in America too, because what they said about you is also true about us :wink2:

  • Quote from "WIELKI_ZNAWCA_PIERWSZY"

Oh... and why didnt you feel out when in 2004 and 2005 Italy got a 'wild card' :P 8)

    it was a joke! :P
We are out of International circuits for so long! They never host stuff here :wink2:
Volleyball has a great force here and had a great development too! During the Pan American Games the gym would be crowded with a passionate group of supporters that only see the team playing here once a year...

  • Quote from "LothiePG"

    Because I'm not Italian 8)

But it's situation just like in 2004 and 2005. but than Italy got 'wild card'. for 2008 Poland and now something is wrong... :P
ok, i know it's unfair and i agree with that, but i can say, that is NORMAL because FIVB made so many 'funny things' :P

Sorry, I altered the post after you replied to me! I didn't understand correctly what you wanted to mean!
I said some posts ago that I did not agree with any kind of situation like that, I'm just saying about the Polish card now because it's for 2008, it's the present situation... if they created a weird rule to add Netherlands to the next GP I'd be pissed too! And I also get pissed because we always have to go to qualifiers and never get 'wild cards'... it's unfair to us in a certain way too! But, anyway, as you said, soooo many weird things! They're normal, but still not correct :wink2:
And actually I sympathize with Polish team, my favorite players are Glinka and Mróz :wink2:

  • great ;)

i understand that you're from USA, yep? Poland since 2003 took part in q. too, only this year. and i understand your 'anger' for FIVB because we're from countries which had to play in q. always (since 2003). and i think if Russia or Italy would take qualification for 2008 i would be angry too, but i understand why Poland got ticket to 2008 ;)

    sorry for my english :P

  • It's very harmful, because Italian and Russian players have to rest. Especially Lo Bianco, Akulova, Godina, Sokolova who have some physical problems. :(

No, I'm not from USA, I'm from Brazil :wink2: USA NT made me a fan of volleyball and it's just an option to cheer for them... Also my favorite player is American :wink2: (By the way not only an amazing player but also amazing person!)
The problem is that America (and I mean the whole continent) is forgotten by FIVB, doesn't matter if the volleyball is so developed like in Cuba, Brazil and USA, 3 NTs that are basically among the top 10 of the world... these countries never host a thing, except for the World League... I even get offended with Acosta's declaration!! Those countries have a huge development in volleyball and their fans that rarely see their NTs live... when they see, it's not FIVB's tournaments....
And I understand why you understand the Polish wild card... you're Polish after all :wink2: :wink2:

About the 9 players rule, I still think they should withdrawn off the tournament... it's a ridiculous rule, and they disrepect also the fact that some players have physical problems like samba player said.

  • I totally agree with you Lothie, as I said before, FIVB has the right to break the rules and to favour some teams in the name of developing volleyball in the world and to show appreciation to some countries for the big effort to support volleyball, but, how come that big powers like Brazil or Cuba have never hosted any Grand Prix event? tha'ts pretty strange, isn't it?......(sshhhh, it's money!)

Fans in Brazil and Cuba have no chance at all to see their teams playing in their countries in a big FIVB event.

And it's not that we did not complain when other countries got wild cards, it's that we are just commenting the current situation which is Poland being favoured now, and again, my polish friends, don't take these comments personal. It's not about Poland, it's about unfair decisions taken by FIVB. Mr. Acosta and his friends are doing everything in the name of money, that's all.

  • South America - Argentina was a host of men WCH 2002 !
and as I remember correctly there was total war between organizing team and FIVB (Acosta). Moreover other terms agreed before WCH were not done on standard level which should be on WCH (accomodation, trainings etc.)

  • and about rules in FIVB - there are no rules
    see qualification to OG
I'm quite sure R.Acosta will invite counties to World Qualification Tournaments only acc. to his own idea ???
I remember even I sent letter to him before OG 2004 - of course no answer or comments.
Please don't expect clear rules in FIVB.
What about World League - how teams are selected without any qualification (TV, money etc) ?
Poland couldn't participate for so many years !

  • Quote from "samba player"

    Italy

    Setters = Ferretti; Dall'Igna
    Opposite Hitters = Ortolani; Vitez
Outside Hitters = Del Core; Cicolari; Fiorin
Middle Blockers = Anzanello; Guiggi; Arrighetti; Crisanti
    Libero = Cardullo

    Italy announced a new roster.

Secolo and Stufi instead of Vitez and Crisanti, who have some physical problems. There won't be Massimo Barbolini, who is preparing the Europeans with Aguero, Lo Bianco, Gioli and other girls in Perugia, but Marco Bracci as coach.
I still don't understand, because in the announced roster there are just 7 players from the Final Six, not 9. Did the CEV change her mind or the Italian Fed has made a mistake??? :? :?

Maybe the Italian Fed didn't give a damn to the new rule haha
I really don't know what they're going to do... Maybe they will be forced to change it (either the rule or the roster)... but if CEV accepts Italian roster, then they'll get in trouble with the Russians... if they accept of one team, they have to accept for both.

Also, about the FIVB, Brazilian coach is saying that FIVB is chasing Brazilian team, creating rules only for them that makes their life difficult during the tournament...
