2016 CEV DenizBank Champions League

  • no way it was 22-20 in mistakes volero seemed to be making mistakes all the time i will have to check out the data but other thing i was saying are the things that are not in the sheet cause it didnt earn points in the game

  • what volero needs is better second mb orlova imo just isnt good enough for top 4 and i was very surprised how well zivkovic played in volero this season she really did improve mutch this year

  • Actually in terms of errors it was only 22-20 :!:

That is if you count serve errors, reception errors and attack errors. I counted the opponent errors which don't include reception errors (because they're counted as aces) but include stuff like technical errors, net touches etc...thus the slightly different numbers.

no way it was 22-20 in mistakes volero seemed to be making mistakes all the time i will have to check out the data but other thing i was saying are the things that are not in the sheet cause it didnt earn points in the game

Oh so you think your definition of an "mistake" is superior to the statistical one? Like a tipped ball = a mistake? Teams use tips to avoid mistakes and for tactical purposes...

Either way: "Don't argue with idiots; they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." :read:

  • I think Volero did a good job, because with its reception line... it's just so vunerable...

Olesya could play better than she played in this playoff. I can't forget the 14-13 point in the 1st match tie-break, Volero had 2 chances to kill the point and get 14-14 and Olesya did not attack the ball twice... So disappointed!

Mammadova improved a lot in a little space of time. She was the name of these playoff matches beside Kim. I love her. I hope she keeps that shape.

Dobrana did a good job, not spetacular, but good. She has on her shoulders so many pressure, she has to pass almost all the court with Popovic.

Zivkovic is a great setter when we talk about the extreme high balls, but with the middle, she has to improve a little, especially about the game reading, the right time to call the middle balls. but I'm surprised with her.. she played well. If Volero had the chance to play with a 5x1 inversion at least, if Fabiola or Antonijevic was avaliable to play, to change the perspective... I think Volero could win this playoff serie.

But... let's see what's coming! I hope Fener win this championship! :box:

  • I don't agree on Zivkovic. Not only she is a boring setter, she has many problems with precision too... her high balls are not good. Just watch Volero's older matches and you'll see what am I talking about. Olessia was trying so hard to reach the ball, she couldn't spike properly. However Bojana played very good 2 matches against Vakif and used Akinradewo a lot.. her connection with Foluke is really good, which surprised me. All in all Zivkovic wasn't bad and deserves a praise for these last matches.

Volero is really unlucky these couple of years meeting strong opponents before the F4.. I think they were stronger than both Piacenza and Moskow and who knows what would happen if they played with them, or against Fener or Kazan. I know they kept Akinradewo for next season.. I hope they keep Rabadzhieva ,Mammadova and Olessia too.

  • matthias only idiot i see here is u ,25+ mistakes directly affected the match cause if they had the same amount of mistakes volero would win 3-1 and then u wrote most retarded stuff ever that 25+ mistakes is normal for only 4 sets which makes every 6 points a mistake and that is 25% of the time which in turn means u have no clue what u are talking about and maybe u should watch cricket from now on and it seems u dont understand what i m talking about at all i try to explain so u can understand tiping a ball over isnt allways tactical choice but loads of times it is a mistake that players made from not setting the ball correctly in the first place so they are required to tip it over they had at least 3-4 balls coming back to their side of the court and the reactions were so clumsy or the ball was set so badly that they didnt have any choice but to tip and those errors dont show up in the stats so there u go genius now i hope u understand what i meant if u still dont get it i suggest u watch the match again

  • Guidetti’s gutsy call on Kim Hill

For Kim Hill watchers we fondly recall her exquisite performance in the 2014 World Championship and remorsefully long for her return to that form whilst she struggles as a backup to Anne Bujis for Vakifbank. Her maddening inconsistency especially in reception dulls the shiny expectations that we wish for. And what was especially noticeable in the World Cup tournament even after an excellent performance against China is her fragile self-confidence.

So where is she now? She starts against the second tier Turkish league teams and she got several starts in the early rounds of the CL Women’s Championship but she did not take the opportunity to rise to the occasion and reignite her all around excellence. However the one thing she has not lost is the mystique of her ability to ignite long winning service runs.

Add in the curious mix of Guidetti being the new Dutch national team coach and his call of three of their top players to VB and one might wonder if Kim had any chance of starting ahead of Anne Bujis, Dutch starting OH. But Guidetti’s reputation as one of the top women’s coaches has been built on his Club successes for Vakifbank so certainly the signing of Hill was to reprise her inner MVP and return VB to its gold standard. He is not one to give up easily in something he believes in. After all he is willing to sit Sheila behind Lonneke in his quest for gold.

Which brings us to the second match of the round of six versus Volero. Bujis has been playing quite well and is an important part of Vakifbank’s current success and continues to start. But Guidetti has added a new coaching twist by bringing in Kim Hill right around the 20-19 mark as a serving specialist for Bujis and letting her play out the match. This would seem counter intuitive based upon Kim’s reception problems but so far it has proven to be very successful as Kim has delivered and not faltered at the most tension building part of the match.

In the first set against Valero Kim came in at about the 18-17 mark and contributed two kills including the final and VB won 25-22 after leading from the middle of the match. In an unusual move Guidetti left Kim in to start the second set and VB broke out to a 7 point advantage. At about the 14-7 point Hill went into an absolutely awful reception collapse and Volero rallied back to tie. Guidetti pulled her for her own sake and the future of her role on the team. Now at this point under Karch Kiraly my thought would be, well we won’t be seeing Hill again anytime soon. This set went on to a thrilling 34-32 win for Volero and showcased Akinradewo at her best.

In the third set Bujis is back in to start and Volero takes the early lead until the late teens when VB fights back to tie. To advance to the semi’s VB needs to win at least two sets and the golden set so this is a very pivotal point in the match. At about 20-19 point Guidetti reinserts Hill to serve for Bujis. The man is absolutely fearless in character development. She serves up two winners and the match is now 22-20 for VB but Hill is in the back row and I just have to shudder about what might come next. The battle for points is intense and errors are the devils hand maidens. Hill stands her ground and contributes at a high level. VB takes the set 25-22.

In the fourth set Hill starts again and this time maintains her composure providing strong OH support especially during the last ten points when her reception was flawless. VB wins out 25-22 and moves on to the semifinals to face #1 Fenerbahce. Hill’s 8 points do not adequately speak to the important contributions she made at the end of each set.

The Bujis/Hill combination continues to reap success for Guidetti and VB. And Hill herself has reprised a new role which has raised her level of play just ever so slightly towards that summer of MVP glory that all USA watchers would love to see again in Rio 16. For VakifBank to achieve the Club triple crown; CL Women’s, World Club, and Turkish league championships with this group would be a final burnishment of Guidetti’s coaching credentials short of an Olympics gold and make VakifBank the number one destination for next season’s top free agent Zhu Ting.

The signal from VakifBank is simple. If you want to play for and be the best you play for Guidetti and VakifBank. Of course Fenerbahce and Ecazibasi will challenge that and we volleyball fans get to be treated to the best competition in the world. Kim Hill has her chance to experience the VB way and hopefully when the season is finished the lustre of her MVP summer will again shine, in Rio.

  • I predict Fenerbahce - Dinamo Kazan Final.

I expect Vakifbank to win the tournament actually.
Vakifbank's two obvious weaknesses are libero Gizem Örge and OH2 position being very unstable. If Buijs show a consistent performance throughout this F4, Vakifbank is unbeatable. Naz is more creative and decisive than Skorupa. Gözde can attack from anywhere while Bosetti even fails to attack from front row these days. Vakifbank's both middles are constantly playing and in top shape. I'm sure Vakifbank's strategy will be to serve on KYK and avoid her from attacking. On the other side, Vakifbank has many options for attacking. In summary, qualifying to finals is much harder for Fenerbahce this season.

It's hard to say who will pass from the 1st semifinal but i'm sure the winner between Fenerbahce and VakifBank will bring the title on sunday.
For Fenerbahce this season it's not about this player fails in attack or this one fails in reception, Abbondanza created a group and a real TEAM where the players complete each other. Bosetti after the surgery with 0 contribution in attack but the group is still doing great.
Fenerbahce's middles are also in a great shape, at least that's what i saw in the playoff 6 matches against Dinamo Moscow.
If we are going to compare each player and position in the teams then we will say Eczacibasi is unbeatable beacause they have no weakness but actually as a group they failed this season.
I don't think that a team could stop Kim by serving on her, even if she receives 55 balls she is still the best scorer of the match.. I don't think all the coaches are blind or stupid, if it's that easy to stop Kim why they don't play with this "strategy" 8| ? And even if you stopped Kim there's Mihajlovic, Christa and Eda to attack.
Fenerbahce was able to beat Vakif two times this season without Christa and Mihajlovic.. now they can use all their players.

I'm always pessimist so i will say Vakif will win :D .

  • Fenerbahce is the favorite to win, but they will have to play their really best to take vakfibank and Kazan down. Im just assuming Casalmalgiori will finish 4th, but we never know.

  • Thats what i thought too. Fenerbahce played without Harmotto and Mihajlovic against Vakif in the league but Vakif played only without Robin against Fenerbahce in the league. I see a small advantage in favour for Fenerbahce because of Mihajlovic.

Sloetjes didint play too much games on high levels and it is her first final four? Mihajlovic as well but she played with Cannes and NT high levels and the rhytm is good.

I think the main importance are the liberos. Defense is very important in this match and i see Karadayi in front especially she will give everything against Guidetti and Vakif.

  • I'm in a little shock, bets for Fenerbahce Vakifbank are tied 1.83. I don't see Victory way for Vakifbank today.

  • I will support Fener even though I am Italian because I really don't like the Italian team that will play the final 4.

    Haydi Sarı Melekler!

It's possible, you just have to believe in yourself and really not care what other people say, because I've heard it all.
If you let someone else dictate what you're going to do in life, then you won't get there.

Non so neanche come onestamente: in due mesi ero di nuovo in campo.
