2016 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix

  • CHN lineup for final 6 WGP
OH: Hui, Liu XT, Liu YH
    MB: Yuan, Yang, Zhang
    S: Shen, Yao
    OPP: Zeng, Gong
    L: Lin, Chen

An Jiajie was annouced the head coach for WGP Final Round.

Lang Ping will stay in Beijing to guide the other 8 players' intensive training.
    OH: Zhu Ting, Zhang Changning
    MB: Yan Ni, Xu Yunli
    S: Ding Xia, Wei Qiuyue
    OP: Yang Fangxu
    L: Wang Mengjie

for Bangkok trip, apparently, the Setters, Opposites and Liberos are Lang Ping's main testing positions. the player who performed under an average level in each position will possibly not make the Rio trip.
OH and MB are using the bench players, Hui Ruoqi is under further observation of the recovery condition during the games and Yuan needs more matches to adjust the precise rhythm of the blocking.
obviously the players in Beijing are not 100% guaranteed to make the Rio. Wei Qiuyue, Yang Fangxu and Wang Mengjie are not convincing enough to secure the final 12 spots.

i may not be the tallest,
    the fastest, or the strongest,
but at least i can do one thing better than anyone else,
    to be me...

  • so it looks more like taking 2 L (one as defensive player) than 4 OHs/3 OPs/4 MB s ^^

Gold medal - World League 2013 Prediction Game
Bronze medal - World League 2012 Prediction Game

  • so it looks more like taking 2 L (one as defensive player) than 4 OHs/3 OPs/4 MB s ^^

    IMO

    plan 1:
if Lang Ping takes 2 liberos to Rio
    3OH+3MB+2OP+2S+2L

    plan 2:
if Lang Ping takes 1 libero to Rio
    4OH+3MB+2OP+2S+1L

i dont think Lang will take 3 players in either opposite or setter positions...because Zhang Changning is versatile wingspiker who could be filled in opposite position if the team needed. i think the second plan is likely to happen

therefore, the opposite/setter/libero positions are full of competitiveness but will be clear after WGP final...

  • And Thinkaow? Are they both injured?
I think Thinkaow's absence hurts Thailand even more...

Onuma was not fully recovered from the injury....and her performance was below average level. so she was travelling but bench with the team in group rounds.
the captain pleumjit was also left the convovation after WOQT, so she was not selected as the WGP player.
the veteran Wanna was out of consideration either.

  • Is Kosheleva going to Bangkok???

No, she will not play due to back injury

  • Haven't read any news about Kosheleva's injury. Was she injured during training? Source please. Just when Russia was looking really good to have a chance to win Gold in WGP and this happens

It looks like the extent of seriousness of her injury is not fully known yet.

I've also noticed that some people are blaming Kosheleva for not bothering with giving her best effort on NT since she signed a contract with Ecazibasi.

Thanks Joana. So do they bring back Malykh now that Kosheleva is not able to play? Kosheleva being able to play one great game, and gone the other is puzzling to me.

  • I really hope Lowe will step up her game. She has been inconsistent since the WOQT. I still don't understand why Kiraly chose her over Fawcett when Fawcett was having a solid year.

This will hurt the US team on the Olympics. I'm afraid she will crack under the Olympic pressure.

Just like in 2012, my heart is breaking for Fawcett.
