Russian NT 2016

  • Bartek, sorry but who is this player you are refereing to Ksenia Smirnova? She is even younger than Malygina (and much shorter!). Does she have good receprion skills? Maybe she will be the 4th OH? :what:

He was referring to Irina Smirnova who just won Italian A2 League with Forlì and will play in Monza in A1 next season.
But I don't think she has the level for playing in Russian NT, I'd rather take Isaeva instead! Even if I hope Malykh will be the one who will be chosen as Goncharova's backup in Rio.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if Malykh won't make the olympic team. In my opinion Stolyarova or Voronkova would have been the better options... The use of Malygina in the GP seem to give her an edge over Malykh.

I have the same feeling too. Malykh just was not able to show her thing when she's given the chance, unfortunately. On the other hand, I think she could fit in USA's fast play. Maybe she should consider playing in Italy?

  • My Olympic Team

S: Pankova, Startseva (serve Specialist), Babeshina (serve specialist/ low fast play)

OPP: Goncharova (also OH), Malygina (blocking sub, also OH)

    MB: Zaryazkho, Fetisova, Samoylenko

    OH: Kosheleva, Shcherban, Ilchenko

    L: Malova

  • Malykh is out.

  • it means that she's probably out of Olympic Games as well and Marichev will probably take 3 Setters :aww: now Ezhova and Lyubushkina seem to be clear contenders to be out as well :wavy:

She's definitely no Goncharova, but I think she has more consistency than Malykh right now.

  • A brazilian channel visited the Russian training center in Anapa - they said it was the first time a foreign channel was allowed to do that - and interviewed Erkhov, Yaremenko, Fadeev and coaches and players from both NT's.

They talked about a lot of subjects: the Russian interest in volleyball, London quarter-finals (women's), London final (men's), Karpol, Ovchinnikov, how the Russian game changed under Marichev's guindance and the preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games.

  • Fetisove is doing a great job as MB for sure but when and why she was converted to MB from OH? :teach:

Because the staff saw that she's naturally good in blocking? lol IMO, blocking is 50% skill, and 50% luck. You have to be at the right place and at the right time (with the proper technique), and Fetisova has both.

  • Now that the WGP is finished, Marichev and the girls have roughly a
month to prepare and iron out the kinks in their game. Goncharova was
playing on a really high level prior to the Finals 6, but she was worn
out when it mattered most. Shcherban was also dependable and playing
really solid in attack. Lastly, both the starting Russian MBs, Fetisova
and Zaryazkho were a monster in blocking.

    Now the problems

    1. 2-person receive/Malova. This kind of receiving system just won't
work against top teams. This flaw was highlighted in the matches against
Brazil & USA. When you have a team that serves tough, Russia is in
all sorts of problems and can't play their game. Malova is also
underperforming. She seems a shadow of her former self, not being able
to dig those balls like she used to. I haven't read that she's injured,
so this may be due to over fatigue.

    2. Kosheleva. This one is fairly obvious. She doesn't need to be 100%
IMO, but she needs to terminate those balls to so Goncha doesn't have
60+ attempts in a single match. We already saw that Goncharova alone
cannot win matches against the top teams.

    3. 2nd OH. Shcherban and Ilchenko are inconsistent. They can have a great
game one day, and bad the next. Hopefully with Koshe back in the picture,
the pressure on the 2nd OH will be somewhat taken off and can focus on the passing.

    4. 2nd OPP/Double-sub. Malykh has been given a lot of chances, but
unfortunately she sucked and her hits were getting blocked all the time.
To be fair, I think it's not entirely Malykh's fault. Her connection
with Startseva is just not there. And the latter is not really
comfortable with Malykh's fast style of play. On the other hand,
Malygina is too raw and inexperienced for this level.

With that said, I hope Marichev drops Babeshina first thing as her setting didn't really add any value
to the team whatsoever. If Marichev wants a serving sub, the most
logical choice is Pasynkova who could also do receiving duties and be
4th OH. Lastly, I wouldn't take either Malykh or Malygina and will take
Isaeva/Stolyarova instead. She seems more consistent than the two right
now (plus the fact that she's teammates with Startseva back in Kazan).

    My Team

    Setter: Pankova, Startseva

    Opp: Goncharova, Isaeva

MB: Zaryazkho, Fetisova, Samoilenko (blocking sub)

    OH: Kosheleva, Shcherban, Ilchenko, Pasynkova

    Libero: Malova

It is not luck, it is called block anticipation

Yes that's a much correct way of putting it and what i really wanted to come across thanks!

  • unfortunately Your roster is impossible... neither Isaeva nor Pasynkova are in wide roster registered from Russia for Rio
