Pan American Cup - 2016 | 7 | 2

  • Enright dominated portorican league in the last 3 seasons with Criollas de Caguas. For the next season she'll play in Firenze, Serie A1. She was hired by Toray Arrows fer years ago, but an injury didn't allow her to shine bright back then. She also played for a while for Azerrail Baku last season. She's a very good player. Better than Cruz already. And Daly Santana has everything to be even better than Fefa Enright. :teach:

  • actually Eve's first position was MB and she played her best games as MB, not as Oh or OP :wavy: I remember her back in 2007 during World Cup, then she just made her debut in NT :D now only De La Cruz, Castillo and Eve from that team are in NT (according to official data Eve was 16 while Castillo 15, but we know stories with Dominicans manipulating ages  ), while Echenique, Rondon and Nunez now are out of NT...

who remember times when Del Rosario twins (where are they now btw. :D both still could have played, but disappeared suddenly), Cosiri Rodriguez or Nuris Arias (now she's 43 :!: ) played together ^^

  • Rivera wasn't there. But I'm not sure about Vargas...maybe she was injuried?!

  • well, i have to give credit to kwiek. he is at least very creative with options in his team. although eve-mejia is playing MB, she stays in the backrow to pass/receive service (and de la cruz instead goes out for castillo). also, he insisted that brayelin becomes a passing OH; who would have looked at such tall girl and insisted that she became a passer? can you imagine diouf receiving serve??????

  • i just checked on wikipedia, you're right, neither valdez vargas nor rivera were there.

coming back to Dominicans in World Cup 2007, they played with roster:
    S: Echenique, Del Rosario
OP: C. Rodriguez (with pasing), Nunez
OH: De La Cruz, Cabral, N. Arias, Castillo (back row specialist)
    MB: Rondon, Eve, Del Rosario
    L: Caso

not really  Martinez is doing ok, when something goes wrong, then she just replaces Mambru as OP and Rivera or Pena plays next to De La Cruz as OH2 :D

Kwiek also makes similar moves as this trick with Eve when he replaces MB with Binet, then De La Cruz rests as well :wavy:

now I'm curious on why Vargas was no there

  • now I'm curious on why Vargas was no there

maybe she was injured, maybe needed rest, maybe Miguel Beato Cruz preferred other players (he was coach then until OG qualification in 2008 )
both Rivera and Vargas were back in team for NORCECA qualfications to OG (they were only 4th there :what: ) and to OG tournament in Japan ^^

what is surprising, Dominicans lost with Puerto Rico at the end of 2007 :!: but only 3 players from that team are in it now: Seilhamer, Mojica and Aurea Cruz and Puerto Rico was coached then by Juan Carlos Nunez, who's back NT coach now :D

yes, i know. when binet comes in back row for an MB, then castillo replaces an OH, so they have 2 defensive specialists but the disadvantage is that they have one less attacker (from back row). except that one time binet got a kill spiking from back row, ending the set...

what is interesting is that there's basically only one pure OPP for DOM, mambru (and before, nunez and j. rodriguez). all the other OPP are usually OH or MB: eve, rivera, de la cruz, martinez, pena; kwiek is always switching his team around (even in the same match) and they all can play OPP. i think of these, pena is the worst passer, and she is really better at being an OPP or non-passing OH. kwiek even had valdez as OPP before, right?

  • well, I remember Annerys Vargas playing as OH and it was disaster  the same was with Cindy Rondon when she had to play in some games as passing OH :D Marianne Fersola also had games as OH, but she was a little bit better than both ^^ but I don't remember Vargas as OP at all

  • maybe annerys was playing as a passing OH, not OPP, i don't really remember because i only watched a few minutes of the match. was it a GP in years past? anyway, i heard that once danni scott had to play as OH for the USA due to injuries...
