From Volleyball magazine online:

Today there are two articles, which confirmed the only idea I had, what could be the reason: Schweriner SC thinks, they can't get any further in CEV Cup then semi final as last season, because Bundesliga clubs are then eliminated routinely by a powerhouse from Istanbul or Russia, but could win Challenge cup like CSM Bukarest did the last time or Dresdner SC in 2010:
While I understand the real world financial and competitive realities of playing in the CL and CEV Cup for teams like Schwerin, I would find it much easier to support a team that continued to try and compete at the highest possible level. That should be why you play, to be and beat the best, not to triumph only over teams that you think you can beat. Playing down to your competition is a self-fulfilling prophecy and doesn't make you better. And playing at the highest possible level is a much better recruiting tool, it seems to me.
This gets a big thumbs down from me.
I agree with Azvin. The next logical step for Schwerin would be to let the team start in 2nd league because the chances to win a title there are much bigger than in 1st league

I have only explained the motivation of Schweriner SC revealed by those articles - I agree with you both, because I think too, this is a wrong approach. The higher level the competition is, the more interesting for spectators and players it is too, even though it straightforward decreases chances to win.
For example Stuttgarts trial to play Champions League last season couldn't be justified at all with that sort of thinking. But it was an interesting and fascinatiing experience, although this competition is too hard for our VBL clubs considered rationally and it was no easy task to get it financed at all.

You are fully right - Schweriner SC can easily finance even the Champions League participation, so this kind of argument is near being ridiculous.

Interestingly, Olympiacos Piraeus has a berth in the CL qualification rounds. Potsdam will not playing European Cups at all.

From Vilsbiburg to Potsdam doesn't look like an improvement - until she can earn much more there.
Shame that she doesn't go to Stuttgart.

I'm not sure, if she would be such a big improvement in Stuttgarts very demanding roster, to be honest - and maybe she didn't like that tiny city Vilsbiburg and prefers a much bigger city like Potsdam in immediate vicinity of Berlin? For herself, Stuttgart would have been better than Potsdam of course, but would she get that much playing time in Stuttgart? Competition is rather hard there with Renata Sandor, Kim Renkema and Michaela Mlejnková around for any other outside hitter.
Thank u
Panathinaikos Athen was not that good the last season, reached only the Semis in Greece and is playing only Challenge Cup therefore. I'm a little surprised about that move, to be honest.

Especially 370.000 Euro debt from former times are a heavy issue for them, they have definitely to take more care financially.
