While it is always true of all teams, I think it is particularly true this season that with all the changes to the roster, Dresden's season will be evaluated by how they finish, not by how they start. Given the strength and continuity of the Stuttgart line-up, I agree with you about this meaningless showcase match, and I think one would have to favour Stuttgart to win the regular season standings.

Birks was a very strong attacker in the NCAA and a three-time All-American. And, unlike some outside hitters in the NCAA (with its 15 substitutions per set) she played all rotations and passed effectively. If she can quickly adapt to the pro game she will be a great transfer for Dresden. It likely doesn't hurt that two of her team mates played at the same college.

Agree. But, I think she will make it.just like Plak did in Bergamo..coming from Dela-League.

Today Dresdner SC published a news on their site, in which Alex Waibl (ironically he came from Stuttgart and even coached the first few months the than first time first league group of Allianz Volley Stuttgart in 2008 ) told indirectly, that he thinks too, that Allianz MTV Stuttgart will likely be the strongest team in the league in the season coming ("for every team it will be very hard to beat Stuttgart"):

I think Köpenicks primary mission is to stay in the first league, an objective, in which they were really good in for more a decade now, considering low budget, small hall, much competition with stronger (especially financially) sports clubs in Berlin, not too many spectators and so on.

Not only KSC looks weaker this season, but also Dresden, Schwerin, Münster. Aachen
