Brazil - Superliga 2016/2017

  • All 3 matches were fantastic! If this is the preview of the playoffs I really can not wait for them to start!

  • Hi, guys! Could you please enlighten me what Leal was complaining about against the second referee in the semis match against Sesi? The replays clearly showed he touched the net, but he couldn't seem to get over the call against him.

He thought he had touched the outside part of the net, which isn't a violation. That's why he was going crazy over it. lol (I do think the touched the net though, so no mistakes by the referees)

@sheba Indeed! And this time we're gonna have best of 5 games in both QFs and SFs, so things shall be even more interesting! :D

Yeah Leal didnt touch the net actually. Shame it had to happen at such a key moment. Extremely high quality matches though!

  • Brazilian SuperLiga experts, anyone think Minas can upset Funvic today? Minas looked much improved vs Sesi a few weeks ago, and I think Bisset's inclusion in lineup as opposite has a lot to do with it. Funvic, has a chance to move to 2nd place with a one, but they can be inconsistent as the visiting team. Thoughts?

I'd like to think they can, but that's very unlikely. Taubaté's level has increased a lot since the Cup finals and they finally seem to have found their best shape, even without Lucarelli. Minas' been playing a lot better these days indeed, but I think it's not enough to beat the big 3 teams (well, except SESI, but that's SESI for you).

By the way, Bisset has been playing as OH! The OPP for Minas these last few rounds has been Felipe Roque (19yo, left-handed, 2,08m), who honestly is one of the nicest surprises of the league this year.

  • I hope Renan tries Renan. I feel like he's ready despite the obvious lack of discipline but I think among the opposites well he can drive off the likes of Wilfredo Leon if he suits up for Poland.

Edit: Basically with his blocking, he can drive off anyone. Lol

Favorite players: M: Maxim Mikhaylov, Murilo, Serginho, Aaron Russell, Otavio, Simone Giannelli, Ivan Zaytsev, Tsvetan Sokolov, Michał Kubiak, Mariusz Wlazly, Pawel Zagummy W: Sheilla, Zhu Ting, Natalia, Fe Garay, Fofao, Gabi, Thaisa, Foluke Akinradewo, Wei Qiuyue, Ding Xia, Carli Lloyd, Fabi, Natalia Goncharova, Yuko Sano, Saoris Kimura and Sakoda

  • imo there are four names Renan can try as backup OPP: Renan Buiatti, Franco Paese, Rafael Araújo and Felipe Roque. Personally, I'd go with Rafael and Felipe.

Renan, despite being the best scorer of the league, is still way too unstable, while Franco can be the same (plus I'm not so sure how well he's doing in France). Rafael seems to be having a solid season in Poland as far as I know and Felipe is still really young, but has a lot of potential and needs to start being developed for 2020/2024.

Personally, I feel he is ready no matter what the flaws. Renan is playing with a team of underdeveloped players, techniques and physiques. His whole team is basically just between 19-20 years old and I think that UFJF hanging in there is because of a player like him who can attract attention. UFJF seems like a team that could've fallen to the second division already if not for him so I give him the best chance in the selecao among the main candidates for Opposites.

Not with Caramuru and the mess that is Maringá
But you're right actually. I wouldn't mind seeing him at least get another trial test in the senior NT prior to the next WCH. He's playing well and already had a good performance in the Pan American games in 2015 (important to notice that 3 of the olympians also came from that team), so yeah. I just hope Felipe develops faster than Renan. :|

  • Bruno still has quite a few years ahead of the NT if he wants, perhaps even 2 other OGs, so that shouldn't be an issue... for now. There's Murilo Radke and Fernando Cachopa, but 1) Radke was never tried effectively in the adult NT; 2) Cachopa is still young and too short. We'll see who gets called this year as I'd expect Raphael and William to be retired due to their age.

For reference, here are all setters playing as starters in the league this season:

    William - Sada Cruzeiro
    Bruninho - SESI
    Rapha - Taubaté
    Rodriguinho - Brasil Kirin
    Murilo Radke - Montes Claros
    Rodrigo Ribeiro - JF
    Thiago Gelinski - Minas
    Evandro - Canoas
    Sandro - Bento
    Matheus - São Bernardo
    Ricardinho/Pedro - Maringá
    Edgar - Caramuru

As you can see, not a lot of options as most of them are either too old or too inexperienced. :S

  • Well, that`s true, Bruno is only 30. But I hope he takes at least this season off and let some others play the WL and Champions Cup, they need to gain some experience. Also there`s Thiago Velloso playing for Molfeta ( I think he`s 23).Will be really interesting to see what results Brazil will get from on now without Bernardinho
