Women's World Grand Champions Cup 2017

  • Not Asia Games but Volleyball Competition in the China's 13th National Games. Yes, last season Wang Yi-mei was the star in the Liaoning Club. It is not sure whether or not she's still listed with the Liaoning Club at this season (kicks off at the end of OCT). According to Tomen in Chinese Team thread; Wang said that if her name is no longer listed with the Liaoning Club, it means she has decided to retire from volleyball.

Btw the multi-event Asian Games will be held in Indonesia in 2018.

Wang Yimei just competed at the Asia Games, she plays for Lioning with Ding Xia and Yan Ni.

  • Just stumbled across this footage, from the last day of the FIVB Women's World Grand Champions Cup 2017

During the post-match interview after lost to the Chinese team, the head coach of the Japanese team, Fumi Nakada, being interviewed by the Japanese media couldn't control herself and wept...

    See the dramatic footage here:

Just wonder why did she weep before the camera?

Did Nakada really think that her team could have won in the last match thus grabbed a medal, then felt that opportunity just slipped away? :?::whistle::whistling:

  • I think Wang YiMei last outing with the Chinese NT was in 2013...just before Zhu Ting was called up to the seniors. Wang is still in the Chinese League with Liaoning ( hope I'm right ), perhaps even if they don't play in the same team, they should have face each other in the League. Wang has played in the Turkish League before Zhu Ting too...

going back to the CHN NT circa 2012.

did wang yimei and zhu ting ever play together? on court at the same time?

Wang Yi mei and Zhu Ting had actually played together in the 2013 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix. I found this video where Wang Yi mei had played the three first sets and Zhu Ting replaced her and had played the two last sets.

  • Just be aware of this fact. From VolleyMob.com:

"China, however, is playing to avoid becoming the first-ever Grand Champions cup winner to lose a match. Surprisingly, even in a tournament that pits the best-of-the-best in the world against one another, there has never been enough parity that a team has lost a match and still won the tournament."

A winner cannot lose any match. A loser cannot be the eventual winner. Weird enough, what a speciality from the WGCC, knowing what happened in other events... :D
