Tokyo 2020 Qualification rules

  • This is not true! Do you know how many players became victims of this very same federation? How many were forced to quit volleyball or haven't developed well enough because of ludicrous contracts (with clubs directly and the federation indirectly, binding them for life), inadequate but "appropriate" coaches, favorable players, or unacceptable sports conditions? It has a lot to do with the federation's business. Pity that even those in the current NT didn't support the boycott of 2012. Instead, they remained silent and some have declined NT invitations over the years in one way or another.

Prandi is officially Bulgaria's new head coach. This was made public at the start of 2019 or at the end of 2018, I don't remember. He will help the NT, of course. The same way he did back in 2008-2010 (to me, the best volleyball Bulgaria ever played). But this will be his second tenure at the NT and I wish he had the decency and self-respect not to sign with the same federation which fired him unfairly for dubious reasons and Prandi had to hear it from friends and journalists, not in person. The so-called Prandi scheme, as it remains for the archives, was used to get rid of Stoychev afterwards, too.

Thanks for the additional context about Prandi.

Actually, what I meant is that the players are not responsible for the corruption of the federation. The NT players deserve a better coach (Prandi) to train them to play better and achieve better result.

We can't blame the players not to take stronger action against the federation. Taking part in the Olympics is every athlete's dream. Not everyone can be Kaziyski, who's already become one of the best players in the world and wouldn't need to worry about his career or finance; I also recall he's one of the very few who are completely free from the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation in terms of financial responsibility.

  • Who's Randazzo? :what:

Italy has Zaytev, Juantorena (maybe), Antonov, Lanza (:hit:) and Vettori for OQT.

Ivan can play as OH so Vettori will be the principal opposite :cheesy:. And... Piano will return :drink:

  • Match schedule of group D (Gdańsk):

    Friday, 9 August

    17:00 Poland – Tunisia

    20:30 France – Slovenia

    Saturday, 10 August

    15:00 Poland – France

    18:30 Slovenia – Tunisia

    Sunday, 11 August

    12:00 France – Tunisia

    15:00 Poland – Slovenia

  • Very “smart” arrangement of the schedule from the Polish federation. France and Slovenia faces each other in the first match and the loser would have a slim chance of winning the pool. No matter whether France wins the match or not, it’s not going to be an easy challenge for them, and the match will likely end around 23:00. With a very short time of rest, France will then face Poland early in the afternoon the next day. I think that’s why Poland arranges their own match as the first one in the first two days, and why they don’t arrange to play France, presumably their strongest opponent of the pool, in the last match.

  • So Pool A and Pool F are too weak. With the returning of Simon and co Pool E become super interesting. If Russia loses the pool , it will be a disaster for European volleyball. Pool D is tricky, Pool C will be between Italy and Serbia.

None of the teams will qualify through World Cup ,right?

It will be enormously difficult to qualify through European qualification tournament.

Russian victory is a must !

Let's all hope Muserskiy's recovery is on track so we can witness Muserskiy vs Simon the ultimate MB battle ever :box: Russia in the current VNL isn't too shabby either.

  • Imagine if Brazil and Argentina both qualify, then we'll have probably Venezuela in the Olympics:rolll:

Also, I don't want USA and Canada to both qualify, but that's highly likely to happen||

    or CHI...

and if both US and CAN qualify (likely) then norceca again will have a 3rd team at the olympics (but less than the 4 they had in rio).

again many strong euro teams will be left out of the olympics...

  • Cuba will again be a solid top 12 team soon when they get back some of their experienced players. Their youngsters are exciting players, they just need guidance from veterans like Simon or Hierrezuelo.

Europe would just need 1 more place. Nobody really cares about Germany, Bulgaria, Slovenia... Germany without Grozer is another mediocre team, Bulgaria is just aimless and Slovenia was trendy 3 years ago but now they don't play that well anymore.

Ha, if that post had come from a troll, you would be getting a warning already! What a bunch of nonsense! And all this arrogance coming from an Argentinian - a country with 1 or 2 bronze medals in the entire history of international volleyball! Argentina have very often been to tournaments just because there were quotas for South America to fill. For your information, when there was volleyball in Bulgaria and West/East Germany, Argentina knew only about football (brought there by Europeans but that's a different story). So treat the rest of the teams in the world with the respect they deserve! Maybe you don't care about Europe or the European teams/quotas but a knowledgeable volleyball user, especially here, would find their presence in a major competition interesting, no matter in what form or whether in crisis. The same way I, for instance, have enjoyed the young and less dangerous Argentinian squad from 12-14 years ago or the super exciting Venezuelan team from the 2006 WCH/2008 Olympics. Even Cuba and Mexico in the last Olympics, they are not to blame that they got a chance to be there.

So yes, there are people who care even if you don't. Also, relax, you probably won't watch many "boring" European teams anyway because the format won't allow them to be there.

For many of these Cuban players, I doubt that they will come back. They have seen the federation treat them badly, which may even bleed into the political side and how their families may have been hurt.

  • AQT draw and schedule, surprised China wasn't the highest seed ! they could end up with IRN/AUS and Korea in a possible group of death.

it looks like AVC went with Asian championship results minus Pakistan for the serpentine grouping and then China was placed as A1 and Australia as B1. Then drawing for the spot in the Berger tables.

Yes, AVC went with Asian Championship results, the top 4 were seeded which were Iran, Australia, Korea & Chinese Taipei .

According to the result, Iran which Seed 1 went to Group A, Seed 2 & Seed 3 Australia & Korea in Group B, Seed 4 Chinese Taipei in Group A.

China were drawn to Group A. China had right to choose one team to be with them which was privilege as hosting country. They went with Kazahsztan. Qatar was automatically went to Group B.

The whole so called drawing of lots ceremony was a joke because only team was drawn was China.
