CEV Women’s European Championship 2019 - hosts Turkey, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia

  • Naz told in her post match interview that they knew that NED is the better team and the favourite one and accepted it and that the NED team started nervous due to the problems with Guidetti :white:

Yeah... The way he quit the Dutch was unprofessional and disrespectful. The players are still sad about it, because he promised them a lot and that they would go to Tokyo 2020 togheter. But I think it's time to let it go, because he won't come back.

  • I’ve just started wondering what’s next for Russia and the Netherlands, keeping Pankov and Morrison or looking for some replacement...at least Russian team secures a spot in the Olympic Games but the Dutch team haven’t and their chance realistically doesn’t seem to be that promising, especially observing the current performance. A few months ago I wrote that it was kinda unfair to blame Morrison for a bad outcome but I guess it’s right time to judge it now, the only positive factor I can come up with now is the fact that he brought Bongaerts over Stoltenborg, nothing more. Buijs has never been such a passer but recently she’s almost become a hole and her attack doesn’t cover up for it. Slöejtes, Bëlien, Knip, Schoot and most importantly Dijkema have underperformed since last year, basically all important players aside from de Kruijf. I remember Laura shaking hands being horribly nervous at the final against Serbia in ECH 2017, even today two years later she wasn’t better at all.

Russia’s upcoming homework is pretty clear, they need Kosheleva-Scherban duo back. Goncha is no longer able to carry her team alone, she definitely needs some company to help her out. If possible and agreed by both side, A comeback of Malova would be great. Galkina is not such a digger to be honest, though her passing is still okayish, alright she sometimes makes errors but still for a Russian libero she’s solid. The biggest problem they should fix is Startseva, because I don’t think there’s anyone else left. Romanova is good but for the Olympics Russia will need the experienced one to play as starter.

  • The German slider Schoelzel had a great game, she reminds me of Corinne Ssuschke. I don't understand why Lena Stigrot had a such limited time on court, she's an explosive hitter for her size.

The problem is that despite being explosive, her technique in attack is not very good, plus she is a very weak receiver. And IMO she hasn't really shown any improvement over the last 2-3 years, neither in club nor in NT.

  • Congratulations to turkey for semis🎉

As I mentioned before, this team is getting an upgrade when Naz is leading. She is very experienced at this level and you can see the team is calmer at the end of the sets compared to the times while cansu was the setter. Naz's blocks are also very intimidating for a setter.

Eda is showing her class again. Meanwhile Kubra was killing with her serves and blocks.

I want to underline how much meliha's reception is worth for this team. Especially to be able to play with Eda so often, turkey needs this solid reception and Meliha is very consistent so far.

Hande had a good match today but she had so many bad ones in this tournament, I won't surprise if she chokes in semis😅

Ebrar is really in a bad shape currently, I'm afraid she just reached her pick in wrong time (during vnl finals). We really need her to reach the final.

Simge finally stepped up her game. I hope she can keep this level, especially at defense.

Dutch team has obviously have mental strength issues and having their ex with a bitter break-up on the other side of the court didn't help them. They haven't been challenged much during their weak group matches, which was a disadvantage in such tournaments. Another problem is lack of good blocker MBs, neither Robin not Belien are good blockers and this hurts all the defense in the back row. Only improvement was seeing bongaerts as starting setter instead of Dijkema

Totally agree they are a much better team with Meliha on court. Today she was very solid and so was Simge, even Hande was passing well for her standards and it was a big difference from the Dutch reception which was too often sloppy.

  • Congratulations to all semifinalist teams:drink:

I didnt expect Turkey would win 3-0 against The Netherlands. It was the best match played by the Turkish girls in this tournament(especially OHs). The team seemed very determined all the match unlike the Dutch girls. Watching the tips drop in the middle of the court all match along and couldnt find a solutioun was a bit Morrisons fault as well. Buijs- Daalderop duo can be monster in attack but this Dutch team needs Maret in court. Her receiving and defencive skills are very much needed, not to forget her leadership as well.

Guidetti started the match with Meryem again:down:. It is very obvious that Meryem cant play a good match from the start to the end against a good team. She is always great when she plays against a mediocre teams . However she can be a good backup and useful for double sub but not as starter. Gui messed up with Ebrar so much. He tried her as OH and OPP and switched her position all summer. She was soo much better in VNL playing as Opp. Her confidence seems to be broken. I hope she will get it back against Poland. We have a very high chance of playing in final after 2003 ECH and we need her.

  • She`s only 18, I don`t give 2 years and Stysiak will be the next Zhu. She can spike, pass, block, serve..she can do everything. Mostly important she got a bunch of haters already......Everything smells Zhu Ting....

You have a lot of haters too, how many years do you need to be next Zhu?

  • You have a lot of haters too, how many years do you need to be next Zhu?

If he were ever someone who gives a damn about that he wouldn’t bother himself to be here  The more hates you get the more attentions you get, right?

Re Malova, let's see how how she performs in Kazan this coming season. Hopefully next year Khodonova will be able to re join the NT, she is an upgrade over Scherban IMO but it remains to be seen what state she is in post-injury. Startseva and Romanova I think their spots are secured seeing as they both play in Kazan, I think Russia NT next year will mostly be a mini-Kazan of sorts: Startseva, Romanova, Koroleva, Malova, Kadochkina (if she is called)

  • not that it matters now, but how did GER even beat RUS?

Russia that played in the GER match versus the Russia that played the succeeding matches are two different teams lol

Fault lies with Russia not winning that match against GER, I would have wagered they would win against Poland with how they played against Italy today but it is what it is :wavy:

  • Can't wait for Italy vs Serbia. I'm not sure about Italy's chances but I think the Italians will want "revenge" for last year. I have to say about the last game that I liked Malinov and Chirichè's performances; Malinov distibuted well after a bad start in the 1st set and was great at blocking, Cristina was very focused, I hope her blocking will be on point vs Serbia :box:

Bosetti is not mentally ready to play, she's afraid to spike for her shoulder,so it's gonna be Sorokaite-Sylla, Lucia should be used as a defensive specialist, unless the others have a very bad game.

Egonu needs to do less mistakes, She has a lot of responsabilities of course, but when she makes all those mistakes, the team collapses with her :gone:

Mazzanti preferred even Fahr to Danesi in the last games, I think Danesi's confidence is under zero in this moment :gone:

  • I dont see Italy beating Serbia without Bosetti or without a player who has the same charastheristics like Lucia. For me, it would be a surprise. They do need a super inspired Egonu (and Sylla) in order to outweigh the lack of good reception/defense.

I would hope to see Fahr as starter (I know it would not happen) or at least not waiting so much time in bench when one of the other MBs underperforms.

    For me, Terzic > Mazzanti.

she neednt to be next zhu ting.she can be herself.she has good talent.but at the same age,i was still surprised by zhuting.when she lead her u20 teammates to play with adult brasil in M 2013.those years zhuting begins to save her power for playing longer.Stysiak can be a good player.Zhu ting has many haters in this forum, please stop attracting more haters.

  • I'd say currently the Polish team is better tbh. They are in true form and have a complete team. Rus and Ned are quite confusing atm and no one has a locked spot, both systems have failed lately which is opposite with Poland.

I agree with Joana, the current best 4 teams made it I think. Germany is a grower, they do miss Orthmann and Geerties needs to be more reliable at crucial times. Other than that they have pretty much catched up with the rest, for the middles there is still room for improvement.

Both middles Schölzel and Weitzel are still young.
