Japanese NT 2018

  • USA v JPN 2-2

As best I can surmise from here, USA and JPN played a 4 set match and split it 2-2, with the USA taking the first two and JPN taking the last two. Miyu Nagaoka only played in sets 3 and 4 <cough> and scored 11 points.

It didn't sound like an official match. It's like a training match before the scheduled exhibition game in Cali tonight.

Favorite players: M: Maxim Mikhaylov, Murilo, Serginho, Aaron Russell, Otavio, Simone Giannelli, Ivan Zaytsev, Tsvetan Sokolov, Michał Kubiak, Mariusz Wlazly, Pawel Zagummy W: Sheilla, Zhu Ting, Natalia, Fe Garay, Fofao, Gabi, Thaisa, Foluke Akinradewo, Wei Qiuyue, Ding Xia, Carli Lloyd, Fabi, Natalia Goncharova, Yuko Sano, Saoris Kimura and Sakoda

  • The Casual Friday jersey should have tipped me off :aww:

It's still a good omen for Nagaoka. Scoring 11 points is exceptional for the two sets she played. I remain on the camp that she's more useful than Horikawa when she's feeling well. I don't think Horikawa ever managed to have that game that can oppose Nagaoka or Shinnabe as titular.

The real test is the exhibition match where there are the lights, noise and crowd. USA showing more might than during the scrimmage also gives more meaning to her progress as a player post-injury.

Favorite players: M: Maxim Mikhaylov, Murilo, Serginho, Aaron Russell, Otavio, Simone Giannelli, Ivan Zaytsev, Tsvetan Sokolov, Michał Kubiak, Mariusz Wlazly, Pawel Zagummy W: Sheilla, Zhu Ting, Natalia, Fe Garay, Fofao, Gabi, Thaisa, Foluke Akinradewo, Wei Qiuyue, Ding Xia, Carli Lloyd, Fabi, Natalia Goncharova, Yuko Sano, Saoris Kimura and Sakoda

  • Oh that’s nice for her ☺️. I guess Shin is not anymore involved in any volleyball activities and just wanted to be a mom? Btw Ryu, do you have any knowledge or idea why Koga is not included in the line up for Asian Games? Is she being rested for World Championships? Or something else? Hope you can give us any idea. Thanks in advance Ryu San ^^

Sorry to be late, Kakeru Kun ^^

Shin sometimes teach volleyball to elementary students , but basically she seems to be enjoying her life with her family.

About Koga, she is just rested for WCH and this time Nakada wants to try Nomoto instead of her.

Watching her performance on friendry match against USA, she almost secures her spot IMHO.

  • Thank You Ryu :) for some infomation you have given, i am excited to see the Team play in the Asian Games and more Importantly the World Championships next month :drink::super:

  • Only Risa Shinnabe and Erika Araki are missing but it's good to see them together again.

Oh how I wish to see the 2012 火の鳥NIPPON in action again.;(

My heart melts when i saw this picture :rose::love:<3. It’s such lovely to see them together again, only missing Shinnabe and Araki there, this made me reminisce their games on 2012 London Olympics. This Olympic roster of Japanese NT has been one of the best Japan has ever had.

  • Coach Nakada, in the Asian Games, appears to be going with not an A Team/B Team approach but with a Team A/Team B approach.

    Against Indonesia:

    First two sets:

    Tominaga setting

Araki & Okumura in the middle

Yuki, Risa, Kurogo on the wings

    Set three:

    Sato setting

Iwasaki & Shimamura in the middle

Nagaoka, Nabeya, Nomoto on the wings

She then flipped it for the Philippines:

    First two sets:

    Tominaga set for

Iwasaki & Shimamura in the middle

Nagaoka, Nabeya, Nomoto on the wings

    Set three:

    Sato set for:

Araki & Okumura in the middle

Yuki, Risa, Kurogo on the wings

Where does Sarina Koga fit in?

Her numbers and her team's performance this past year are identical to the year leading up to Rio2016 when word on the street was that she was not invited due to her poor performance. So if she isn't uninvited to the WCh due to her identical performance that kept her out of the Olympics, it's easy: Koga for Nomoto. That puts her with Nabeya where she belongs. But will that be the A Team?

Nagaoka looks pretty good from what I can see in the crappy streams of bits and pieces people have uploaded from their iPhones and whatnot. Strong swing and she looks much better with her hair tied back in a ponytail instead of the Bob & Bangs malfunction most of the Japanese players adopt.

And props to Yuki Ishii. She is a defensive marvel (something Koga has lost a bit), and she is, like, the only Japanese player I see swinging with authority at an out of system ball. And then she'll fall down. It's beautiful! She's adorkable!

  • Japan should fix their opposite problems. If they can't, they'll be sending Okumura to a suicide mission on how to break outside block as high as Zhu Ting or KYK with her slider. :gone:

The Japanese team for 6th AVC Cup is basically an U23 team. The AVC Cup wasn't listed on the All Japan Women 2018 schedule, instead it was listed on the general 2018 schedule with U23 next to it. Japan is in Group/Pool A, along with Thailand and Korea.

    Japan Group/Pool Matches Schedule

    • vs Korea on September 16th at 18:30 (GMT +7)
    • vs Thailand on September 17th at 18:30 (GMT +7)
