Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2018/2019

  • Vilsbiburg registered Lenka Dürr as player on VBL website, but she isn't listed as eligible to play yet. She has been practising with them in order to stay in shape until she gets a contract somewhere, and since they already have Myrthe Schoot it doesn't make sense for them to actually sign Dürr as well, so let's wait for an official statement...

  • Official now, Lenka Dürr helps Vilsbiburg as medical joker. Myrthe Schoot suffered a knee injury in training and will for sure miss tomorrow's match, and since the back-up libero is injured as well, Dürr offered to play because she is training with the team anyway. There is no detailed info about Schoot's injury yet.

  • Most interesting match tomorrow: Dresden vs. Potsdam. The question is, if Potsdams players have still enough energy to pose a threat to or even win against Dresden, at least the travel distance is not big for them. If Dresden doesn't claim a three point win, Stuttgart has the big chance to overtake them in the table, despite they have one match less. There is the lower Bavarian (Niederbayern) derby of Vilsbiburg vs. Straubing; Schwerin should not have too much problems against guests from Suhl, despite they were often well doing against Schwerin.

  • Schedule for today:

    18:00 Aachen - Stuttgart

    18:00 Erfurt - Wiesbaden

    18:10 Dresden - Potsdam

    19:00 Vilsbiburg - Straubing

    19:00 Schwerin - Suhl

Dresden-Potsdam as TV match will be on Sport1 (stream with German IP), all other matches on sporttotal.tv

  • Disappointing matches, especially Dresden vs. Potsdam: after their close five set loss in DVV cup semi at Wednesday and with only a few days with their new coach Hernandez they were physically and in their heads too tired, to resist notably... So we had favourite wins throughout, the "closest" match so far was Erfurt vs. Wiesbaden, where the hosts won at least one set, all other matches so far without set loss by the favourite teams (two are still running, but Vilsbiburg vs. Straubing and Schwerin vs. Suhl are both already leading 2:0 due sets).

  • Aachen - Stuttgart 0:3 (17:25 17:25 21:25)

  • I'm not sure how Aachen can expect success based upon the woeful nature of their reception. I know that Taylor Agost did receive part of the time last year at Oregon and was adequate. A receiving opposite as a possibility? They need to do something as they can't succeed if they can't have more in-system attacking.

  • Aachen is very weak, I think - they are only sixth in the table, because they have two matches more as Vilsbiburg and Wiesbaden, both teams being better than Aachen now, so rank 8 would be more appropriate for them.

The funny thing is that in theory Aachen should have a very good reception, considering that their line-up consists of the libero of Dutch NT, the libero of Belgium NT and the reception substitute of Dutch NT :aww:

Vilsbiburg's coach said that they'll sign another attacker due to the injuries of almost all their wing spikers in the next days, and if Schoot will be out for a longer time they'll try to keep Lenka Dürr. Przybylak is out until mid-January with her shoulder injury, Laura Künzler hurt her ankle in 3rd set yesterday and left the court in tears, Iris Scholten couldn't play due to an inflammation in the hip and Maria Dancheva also hurt her ankle during the match and apparently left the hall on crutches even though she played until the end :what: So by the end of the match only Vanessa Agbortabi and 18 year old Paula Hötschl who usually plays in their 2nd team were still healthy among Vilsbiburg's attackers :white:

  • The expected easy three set win of Münster in Straubing took place. At the weekend things will get more interesting, but Stuttgart is favourite at home against Dresden, if the hosts win as expected, they will immediately overtake Dresden in the league despite having one match less.

  • Bad news from Offenburg: they seem to be not capable especially financially to go to first league (leading second league South by a big margin). They are even considering to go a league down now because of the difficult circumstances. So we will not see them in first league in the foreseeable future.
