CEV Champions League 2019

  • Regarding CL and other European Cups ranking: they are not supposed to be out already, because the competitions are not finished yet, so the points of these cannot be fully attributed yet. Or is there another break and they use only up to last seasons result with new allocation rules?

yes, the points are not official yet but maybe they have already decide about the number of spots. i aslo read on cev.lu that they want to make cev cup stronger.

  • I think the problem of Vitra is more structural or systemic than not having an adequate setter and MBs. This team always has the same pattern. They started the season extremely strong and they beat everyone, including Vakifbank. But their performance always drops in the middle of season. And then they choke at the end of the season. They had Maja (the best setter in the world at the moment) and they also had Thaisa and Adam (World class MB) during the two last seasons. But their pattern remains the same. IMO, having world class setter and MBs won't fix the their problem.

  • btw lets not forget Motta still being so hesitant to use Krsmanovic while he knows his team is desperate in middle position. Still though, Natasa was better than both Büsra and Gibby to me even with the short amount of court time she got, she was useful at least.

krsmanovic is better blocker then both of them even thought motta is a moron and he keeps on pushing scoring mbs instead of blocking ones krsmanovic didnt get any block kills but did block quite a few shots

  • To be honest I don't think Kim and Larson are the problem. Yeah they were crap in the last game but they aren't supposed to be the main scorers for the team, they both do a good job of being secondary scoring players which is fine when Boskovic is on court. Their problem is they have hopeless MBs and underperforming setters. But if Boskovic had been healthy then we wouldn't be talking about their problems we would be talking about how they easily beat Conegliano and how they could win the CL.

i partly agree u see when u are paying big money for both oh u expect them to perform and when they can t kill a ball that says something vakifbank took all the medals cause all teammates helpout zhu on another side u have boskovic who for the most part have to carry eczacibasi most of the time even without zhu vakifbank can still play good volleyball cause they have sloetjes rasic kelsey their options are way better then ecz and it shows and on top of that vakif has 2 great local blocking mb and good local setter which isnt the case with ecz

  • And mostly important there were a lot of really good middles available, Veljkovic, Jack Sinad, Heyrman, Kakowleaska, Stevanovic,Carol...but Motta goes ahead and signs the one who had a really poor season, simply the weakest option available. Very poor judgment and management. Next season their target should be Heyrman or Sinad. If one of Danesi-Folei-Robin leaves Conegliano, they should target "her" as well.

totally agree with u out of all the options moron motta took the worst one and on top of that gibby isnt even known for her blocking and ecz is struggling big time with blocking mbs for the last 3-4 years

adams was utter crap while she played in ecz she was as hopeless in blocking as gibby is and thaisa had an injurie so she was out most of her contract with vitra and on top of that they had kosheeleva that destroyed that team with her poor reception the problem with vitra is buying all big names hoping they will steamroll over everyone they have to understand that names dont win u titles u have to have compact team u can t expect to win titles with no blocking mbs and shitty setter while your 2 ohs can barely kill a ball

I think the real question is why those big names become so crappy when they join Vitra. For Example: KYK was a legend with Fener. She had also a great success in her short career with Shanghai. But when she joins Vitra, she suddenly becomes a very ordinary player.

  • Ecz must have relied on the thought that Boskovic, Larson, and KYK would be enough to make up for their weak middles and setters. They wanted a quick easy fix by adding KYK, but forgot that she isn't in her prime anymore. Now they have to rebuild again for next year. Getting your team on the same page and connected takes time, especially when you keep adding multiple new players.

  • Here Serdar can see why I say TVF and its stupid foreigners limitation is the only limit for the turkish teams. Iitalian teams can have as many good foreign players as they want, turkish teams can't. Imoco has Fabris having a bad day, no problem, there's Lowe on the bench. Boskovic is injured? The best you can have is Yilmaz, that wasn't good enough for a middle level italian team and there's no way she can be good for a team willing to win the Champions League.

Still Imoco's luck is legendary in this competition. Eczacibasi had such an easy game in Italy and now everything is ruined.

Turkish teams have been in CL finals 9 years in a row, also they win 6 out of last 8 years. Foreigners limitation was the same but it seems like it wasn't a limitation for Turkish teams so far. And it wasn't a problem while Eczacıbaşı was beating Conegliano 3-0 yesterday or when FB&Vakıfbank won this week.:whistle:Eczacıbaşı is the worse example to give as a support for your 'no foreigner limitation' argument. This team failed badly when they had 6 foreigners in their team. All foreigner teams not necessarily be the best ones (for example Volero Zurich) Anyway it is not realistic to expect from a team to have a very good sub for each top level player in their roster. Vakıfbank might have been eliminated as well if Zhu was injured. I don't see how can you blame foreigner rule because of their failure while both FB and Vakıfbank can be very successful with the same system.

I explained this before, so I will not repeat the same discussion (since you bring it up as off topic to this thread) briefly, thanks to the foreigner rule, now we can have Ebrar as a backup for Sloetjes, Vakıfbank is still successful in CL and our NT has an option who gets playing time in a top club. It is called win-win:*

By the way kudos to Kim Hill. She is such a rare gem to find nowadays, both great at reception and attack. Besides to Boskoviç's injury, Hill was the main reason for the win.:obey: She outplayed beloved Larson one more time. I look forward to seeing Hill&Robinson duo in NT this season.

KYK was younger and on top of her game while in FB. Eczacıbaşı hired her after she passed her prime. Same happened with Sheila and Vakıfbank previously. Eczacıbaşı did a good job by getting Boskoviç in such an early age and Larson in her prime, so we should give them credit but KYK was not the best choice clearly.

Imo Hill is pretty unstable, she often(for a world-class player that she is) has bad games .When she is on top of her game she is very good yeah, but i feel like you always need to have some decent replacement for her if she is not performing well in that particular game .

Same goes with Sylla. Sometimes they flop in attack, sometimes in reception, you never know. But when they are on fire it's really enjoyable

I do agree with you that her prime is gone. But if we look at her performance last season, she was still damn good. For this, I don't think her age has to do with her sudden performance drop in such short period of time.

I havent watched her in China, so it wouldn't be fair to comment on it

with many poor reception, poor defense and poor block teams, Kim of course had a so called great performance .even dobby this season in china has a great performance.but her attck are not enough for TL. I find a fun thing in twitter.some fans call vitra Star Loser team..I think Nalan should think more times to rebuild this team.

  • The worst thing is that....In the WCH we all saw the middles were gonna be a problem.... Motta had all the time in the world to work on that....But he did nothing. And I`m not even talking about signing Krasmovic as he only signed her because Beyza got injured....So be basically assumed everything would be just fine.

I wish Vitra could sign Lang Ping.

I don't think that's possible even if they offer her billions of money, she's done with club.

  • You guys are too harsh on Eczacibasi. Unfortunately they have to fight against probably one of the best teams in the history's of women's volleyball in Vakifbank last few years. The best hitter in the world being able to receive the ball allows Vakifbank to add another hitting specialist (Sloetjes) in the lineup is just a natural advantage no other team is having right now. When you complain about Larson not being able to hit the ball consistently, well, she is a OH who receives/covers a lot. Which OH in the world can hit the ball consistently now? maybe Natialia after Zhu? Even Natialia is not that consistent as well. Of course losing to Minas was bad, but Vakifbank could easily lose to Praia as well. The Brazilian clubs are always dangerous because of fast style they play.

Boskovic's injury was unfortunate and Imoco has a great team this year. You guys saw that last year Vakifbank with an injured Zhu Ting stood no chance against Imoco as well (3rd and 4th sets). Eczacibasi will be fine, I still think Eczacibasi holds slight advantage in VVSL this year if both Boskovic and Beyza stay healthy. Vakifbank's dominance will probably end after this year, they will still be competitive next year, but Haak+Gabi won't be as good as Zhu+Sloetjes for sure.

Last time they had two top level MB, Thaisa and Adams, it didn't work well for them. So I think it made sense not to fill the roster with so many star foreigners unless there's an injury such as Beyza's
