  • now people will stop talking about naturalizing Federovtseva. It's impossible anymore.

So what? this rule probably crushed her career dreams. I find this rule very unfair. The people who won't be able to compete on international level because of various reasons ( cuban case with dictatorship, Russian case with war or carutasu's case that he doesn't feel belonging to that country or federation, it could be even a case a player has problems with team coach like Belgium case) so these players' hands are tied right now. 🤦

But this is national team volleyball, not clubs.

People don't get to choose at which country they will be born into. It is a birth lottery! One can make the mistake of playing for a NT at the age 18 and for the rest of her life she will be punished for that🤦 and a lot can change, the country can get politically unstable, that person can move to another country for private reasons, and would want to represent another country because of billion various reasons (not necessarily always only for money) but even then, there is no return back the moment a player represents a country. It is just too big of a punishment

I think that’s the point. They want to put an end to changing nationalities for volleyball purposes.

if you want to play for a better volleyball country, great. But you cant represent the bad one first and change your mind.

is it ideal? Probably not to bad circumstances (a la Cuba)

huh? how will it crush her dreams? she has no intentions of switching Federations.

Arina said herself said that the reason why she went put of Russia to play club volleyball is that so she can improve to better SERVE the RUssian NT. She will never switch to a different federation. she had no plans in any way. you made it sound like she wanted to.

  • ItalyW wins eurovolley first time with a Cuban

ItalyW wins world cup first time with an Argentinean

ItalyM gets an unexpected silver medal in Olympics with a Cuban

BrazilM tries to hold into elite level with a Cuban

PolandM gets the best player in the world who is Cuban

While all this happening, fivb does nothing. Now, Vargas joined to Turkey and rule has changed. It's kinda funny.

  • The situation is somewhat more complex than that. I'm sure that both Taismary Agüero and Wilfredo León acquired citizenship by marriage, so it's a different situation compared to naturalization.

I don't remember how Carolina Costagrande became eligibile for Italy, it might even be because she had Italian ancestors and applied for Italian citizenship (the reverse was done by Veronica Angeloni some months ago), but it's probably the closest case that comes up talking about the new rules together with Leal. Still, overall I don't think the new set of rules was adopted in order to punish Turkey. I believe it's more because FIVB wants to limit some club dynamics with the NTs. World Rugby did something about the topic too.

I don't think it's Vargas or Turkey who triggers FIVB to change the rule either, let alone punishment toward Turkey. Indoor Volleyball is not solely about women volleyball ( unless on this forum LMAO). I have an impression that naturalization happens more in the male side than the women side. FIVB wouldn't change the general rule that affect the whole volleyball community just to make a point about Vargas.

  • She can, she catch last train.

Yes. I am not sure though if Jaja Santiago could play for Japan.

Apparently, Wassim Ben Tara who tried to switch federation won't play for Poland.

Yes i am not sure about them, because its nothing done yet. But Vargas is done deal right now

  • Yes, I know that Vargas is done deal :D, but my question was more about the ongoing cases like Jaja Santiago.

  • logic wise, jaja is in too if she send papers already, but who know with fivb

I am asking because I read today that Ben Tara won't be allowed, even though he was already in the process.

this is in practice very different. Most talented players that are great enough to be transferred to another country for let's say Olympic ambitions are already discovered at a young age and invited to play in their senior team at the age 18 or even 17 sometimes (Carutasu was very young when she played for Romania NT) at that age most people can't dare to say no to NT call. That's why I say it is a big punishment for Banning players even if they played for NT once🤦 I'm okay with making it harder by increasing the waiting time 3 years but you play once and you lost your chance for the rest of your life is too much of punishment

  • That is not punishment. NT is not club that you can choose where to play. She is Romanian and She can only play for Romanian NT.

Glad to hear FIVB stop this.
