2020 Olympic Games - qualification

  • every people are responsible for their attitude. Hope our players won't be punished for that, which they all are innocent in this case. You cant prevent other people from commiting such racist acts. Let's move to the other topic.

Yes, let's get hyped up for the European qualifications. It will be no less intense than the world cup imo

  • Someone once posted here about "ugly japs" who cheat all the time. Nobody gave a shit about that ?(

Move on snow flake. If you remember well, I had defended the Japanese team regarding this dude's comment and several users had also replied back for the same comment.

In an ironic twist, the dickhead who posted "ugly japs" showed up later calling some Brazilian players "racist" because they made the gesture this russian/italian dude and the serbian girls did. I posted his "ugly japs" post back to him. He responded it wasn't racist because he was asian .

This dude had offered his apology to you for his comment. So stop playing your freaking drama queen.

  • European Qualification will be the real battle IMO. Bulgaria, Turkey, Netherlands and Poland are main fave teams and, Azerbaijan, Germany and Belgium are following them.

"World Cup" will be interesting if every teams send their "A team", before OGs it will probably be the best tournament to see the capability of players. I'm not sure about other teams, but according to Zhenya Startseva, she will probably play at the World Cup. I don't know our head coach will send " A team" or not, but I'd like to see "A team" at the WC, because it will be great test game for Russian NT be4 OGs. Especially, I'd like to see the capability of our players against Brazil, China, USA, Japan, which we don't have a chance to play against them at the ECH.

I remember watching the Russia China match at 2018 Wch. Russia's defence seemed really improved compared to 2015 or 2016

All-Russian Volleyball Federation will apologize for the gesture of the national team coach

After the match of the Olympic qualifying tournament against South Korea, Sergio Buzato opened his eyelids with narrow eyes. The All-Russian Volleyball Federation does not plan to punish the Italian specialist

General Secretary of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VEF) Alexander Yaremenko said that the organization will apologize for the gesture of the head coach of the national team Sergio Buzato. Last week, after the match of the Olympic qualifying tournament against South Korea, the Italian specialist stretched his eyelids with his fingers, showing narrow eyes.

“We are all upset. And Buzato, too. We will apologize officially, ”Yaremenko quotes TASS.

At the same time, the IHF will not punish the Italian specialist. “The fact that our rivals paid attention to is, of course, unpleasant. But Sergio has been working for Russian volleyball for 20 years, he was and remains an intelligent guy, ”said the organization’s secretary general.

The day before, Buzato himself apologized for his gesture. The South Korean Volleyball Federation (KVA) called this gesture racist, promising to write a complaint to the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

“My gesture did not mean anything except that I celebrated the Russian national team entering the Olympic Games in Japan. <...> I didn’t mean anything offensive, it’s just an interpretation of the gesture in the media, ”quoted Buzato Sport24.

The victory over the South Korean national team brought Russian volleyball players a direct ticket to the 2020 Games in Tokyo. The meeting was held on Sunday, August 4, in Kaliningrad and ended in favor of the hostesses with a score of 3: 2 (21:25, 20:25, 25:22, 25:16, 15:11).

  • Omg yes the action was not nice who wants to interpret it as a racist act can do it and whoever does not see it can‘t do it. Okay guys we got it thanks not necessary to talk about it pages long.

Sometimes I can‘t stand it how things are discussed discussed discussed it is not sharing an opinion anymore and its almost in every thread the same.

So qualification is over until now. Close it and see you all hopefully with good volleyball comments in December/January!

  • As expected Turkey will host European Qualifier, which will turn into the usual fierce fight among a not too small number of teams for this just one berth for Tokio.

Good luck for the host team then. I predict a fierce three-horse race of TUR-NED-POL with GER/AZE/BUL as the dark horses. On the paper the Turkish team at its best form is able to beat every team here, even at their best forms. Yeah, pretty fierce competition for just one berth left!

“There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.”

  • The thing is, if organizations favor a certain continent to have more representatives because that certain continent have better players, it kills the development of the said sport in continents where that specific sport is underveloped or still progressing.

I don't thing your argument is valid. Africa always get a spot and they have been at the same level for ages.

Agree; Polish TV commentators said (i didn't check it) that Tunisia has been participating 6 times in OG within last 30 years and within this time they won only one set. So for me diversity are senseless. During Olympic cycle there are many world competition to show up your possibilities than to go to Olympics and be killed in each match. Women's OG tournament will have 8 strong (best world) teams while male is in much worse situation because only 6 will be worlds top.

  • Actually having weak teams in OG or WCH is killing the sport because nobody wants to watch any team beat african teams 3-0 lol And it's even worse in WCH where 1/3 of the tournament are random teams unable to win a set.

If e.g. Tunisia has been to OG so many times why they should develop more? They won't get to the level of european teams anyway so development for them seems to be useless.

  • This is argument is ridiculous about weak teams being in the tournament. You are limited to 12 teams period. If the IOC is dictating that 5 come from each continental federation at minimum, the FIVB are just following the rules. Right now each federation has at least one team except Africa. You could have an Africa only tournament and then replay the world groups with new ranking. Would this be better, probably and yes the better teams would likely get in?

I think Africans want (and deserve) to see their teams in OG

  • OG is the biggest sport evet and as such is the right place for the further development of the sport. As a volleyball fan, it would certainly makes me happy that many nations play high-level volleyball. Stronger competition will lead to popularization, increased credibility among sport, more widespread investment,.....OFC that is the downside is the complete commercialization of the sport(like football,NBA,....)but surely i will enjoy in uncertain mathces. And finaly logo of the OG saying that that is competition of 5 different continents, it's doesn't say anywhere that is competition of 12 best teams in the World. At the end of the story the best ones in that moment always played OG. OG is special cometitio and do not needs to be changed. Already exist one Wolrd Championship. OG need to be OG.

  • I think Africans want (and deserve) to see their teams in OG

Your post screams for a but I'm afraid I'd try to be sarcastic and fuck it up

  • I think Africans want (and deserve) to see their teams in OG

And what is Africa doing to support volleyball?

Turkey is paying millions for volleyball players, don`t you think they want to see their team in the Olympics?

I`m pretty sure if Brazil was not competing in the OG, volleyball would not be so popular in Brazil and it would be a lot harder to have volleyball clubs around the country. This is exactly what happened with Basketball.

what if Turkish Clubs decide to shut down because it is not worth to keep investing since Turkey never gets to the Olympics and the sport is not growing and there`s not enough fans to keep it going? Hundreds of players will be without a job. What if Poland decides to do the same? Germany? and so on.

So yeah.....let`s reward the countries that are doing nothing to support our sport.....and let`s do nothing to help the ones that are supporting it.

  • You're making a different argument here. sloth was responding to the notion that "nobody" was a little broad

  • I'm not really sure what case you are trying to make by asking what the poorest continent in the world is doing to support volleyball. Is that supposed to be rhetorical?

They have a governing body for it. That, to me atleast, indicates that they also value the sports of volleyball in that region. That counts for something right?

Visibility and lack of funds are probably the reason why no country from that confederation has seen any success on the international stage. It would effectively kill the sports in that region if we exclude them from the games.

I know it's extremely frustrating to not be able to see the very best compete in the Olympics. But we also have to consider why this version of the Olympics exists in the first place. Right front and center...it's in the flag and completely excluding a representative from Africa essentially means the committee has failed to uphold it's most important creed.

  • To be honest, I think that most of those unhappy with the current qualification system is that teams such as Argentina/Thailand/Korea have an easier path than Turkey/Netherlands/Germany/Poland even though the latter are likely to beat the former. Africa is only ONE out of the 12 tickets.
