Knowing CEV, I wouldn't be too surprised if Azerbaijan hosts
-
I was just about to say that I'm surprised Baku is not in the mix, but it looks like they've given up on volleyball.

did oil prices drop that low?????

What else can they accomplish? Even with the NT at its best they never accomplished much. 4th at the ECH and 15th at the WCH. Someone has to pull the plug at some point.

That was actually a very good team. If Hasanova, Shabovta and Korkmaz had been just a few years younger, they would have probably won some medals. And imagine if they had been able to hang onto Ravva...
But yeah, they probably decided that importing ex-USSR players without being able to develop any home-grown talent for decades now doesn't make much sense at this point. They don't even seem to have professional league anymore. Anyway, I've always had a feeling that developing an elite women's volleyball team was some high-ranked politician's pet project, which would be over as soon as the said politician lost his power. A bit like Croatia in the 90s.
Looking back, it's crazy to think they hosted the Olympic qualies in 2004 without having any reputation or relevance at the time.

Asian Qualifiers will definitely be hard. It's KYK vs. Thailand Aunties. It's hard to choose.
CEV bloodbath is another thing. NED vs. POL vs. TUR and challenges from GER and BUL
It's more than KYK... it's a team game!

When you only have 4 teams in the league, two of which are tied into railroads, Lokomotiv Baku and Azerrail Baku, oil prices might not help. One of the teams is called AVF, which is tied into the federation.

Thank you God

Does Turkey scare so many people?
-
So what will the group be?
Ned、Germany、Poland、Croatia
Turkey、Bulgaria、Belgium、Azerbaijan
or the host team can choose which team to be in?
-
They will follow the ranking and the host will be automatically number 1.
Group A: 1, 4, 5, 8
Group B: 2, 3, 6, 7
-
Very interesting development. Though I doubt Morrison can do much to turn around his team, Turkey isn't a team I would bet on a 5th set tiebreaker for the games.

The Dutch seemed pretty good vs China at the world cup yesterday

The Dutch seemed pretty good vs China at the world cup yesterday
The match of CHN v NED was done today 27 Sep by the hosting time zone
NED--TUR--POL a three horse race most likely, with GER as the dark horse.
Being host will increase the odds of NED team. Had TUR hosted this event, most likely TUR would have been the hot favourite.

It seems another Olympics-free year for Turkish team The Netherlands are a clear favourite now. Being host was so cruical for Turkish team.

I wonder why Turkey did not strive harder to win the host bidding... I don't think the Turkish VB federation lacks of resources compared to the Dutch VB federation in this regard. It seems just a matter of priority or focus... or anything else that we may not know?
I think Turkey has a good team in this cycle, thus a good opportunity for a contest in 2020 Olympics.

I am quite sure the olympics are a great priority for all the players and especially for the federation. I am quite sure the current economic problems in Turkey and Turkish liras being down against € (sorry, dont know about economics terms much ) had an effect on this. 1€=6.19 Turkish liras rigt now. On the other hand I think the Dutch federation wanted this so much after seeing their ECH performance against Turkey so this may have an effect also. I wonder how much money they offered.
