2020 Olympic Games - qualification

  • AFAIK, clubs are obliged to let players go for NT competitions, and there even is a fixed date for when they have to let them go, I think it's 14 days before the start of the competition. The license of players "belongs" to the federation, so if Turkey summons Neriman to NT there is no way her club can not allow her to go. Well there is a way, they could threaten to cancel her contract, but it would be ethically waaaaay wrong.

The same thing happened in the men's side. Lucarelli was not allowed by his club to play for the NT back in 2018. Which was a blessing in disguise because Douglas got to shine and snatched the Best OH award. :box::box::box:

  • That's weird. I remember Lucarelli was not part of last year's WCH because his club did not let him go. Thaisa has been denied by Osasco a few years ago too (in a smaller competition), among other examples...

Also, almost 10 players refused to play in Brazil NT this year. I do not think any of them got any suspension. I had never heard about that.

    :white::white::white::what::what::what:

    Men or women?

  • The last time I know those rules were enforced was in 2000 when Croatia summoned their Russian players to play the Olympic qualifications, and they didn't want to (Kirillova in particular, she even burst into tears in public over it), but it was made well clear their licenses would be revoked if they didn't show up, so they had to.

Also, from what I remember, Bulgarian federation threatened to take action against some of their female players a couple of years ago, but nothing came off it as far as I know.

It almost never happens nowadays because it would almost certainly result in lawsuits and such and it would be a big mess. Also, federations earn good money on players licenses and their transfers, so a suspension of a player would not be in their best financial interest.

  • CRO had russian players in the past? naturalized ones?

Yes, Irina Kirillova (setter), Elena Chebukina (MB) and Tatyana Sidorenko (OH). They all used to played on the Soviet NT and were really, really good. Kirillova in particular, she's a legend of the game, also Giovanni Caprara's wife. They represented Croatia 1995-2000, though not always all of them at the same time.

Then they wanted to replace Kirillova with another Russian setter, Maria Likhtenstein, and they briefly did, but then the FIVB changed their regulations about the number of naturalized players per team (you could only have one, as it still stands), so they decided to keep only Chebukina and she went to the Sydney Olympics.

  • If Neriman leaves Toyota, then I think Guidetti could/should very much offer her a contract with Vakifbank for the rest of the season.

Lucarelli did not play WCH, but the WCH was not happening during the Superliga. And he was injured and I don`t think he wanted to play.

I remember when B.Martinez played for Pomi she had to leave like twice during the season to play some Continental and Military games. Maybe each league has its rules.

The club did not let him play because they were afraid he could get injuried again.

You are right. He was recovering from an injury and to participate in wch he would have to rush things. So the clun management take a Doctor especialist to evaluate him. He was not ready, and if he not trear him self, the club would not to assume his decisions in nt.

  • Oh, my mistake about the libero.

When does the japan league end?

The Final 8 Playoffs begin January 11. The semifinals January 25 and finals (1st and 3rd place) January 26.

Toyota is probably paying her big money and she is liked by the team and players. It is going to be a tough call if she is wanted by the Turkish federation. Toyota is perfect so far on the season at 6-0 (15 matches remain).

  • If Neriman leaves Toyota, then I think Guidetti could/should very much offer her a contract with Vakifbank for the rest of the season.

I would think that Toyota will not release Neriman from her contract for the rest of the season. She would still be a Toyota player just not play, if she did this.

I remember that some years ago, Turkish federation more or less forced several players to join NT even though they didn't want to come, but IIRC it's been long back in the days, somewhere in the back of my mind I remember Natalia Hanikoglu being one of those players...

  • omg is this true? Hello Poland insiders

    "Hello !

We have a big scandal here in Poland on the eve of the European qualifier tournament in January ! 13 out of 15 players who participated on Eurovolley have signed the letter in which they demanded from the PZPS (Polish Volleyball Association)to sack coach Jacek Nawrocki immediately (only Magdalena Stysiak and Maria Stenzel refused to sign it). It's not clear when exactly the letter was presented to PZPS or what charges against Nawrocki it contains but according to some reports the players said it is impossible for them to work with him anymore because he doesn't communicate with the team, loses his temper during practices and abuses them and doesn't keep in touch with the players during the league season.

The letter comes as a big surprise, it seemed the atmposhere around the team was significantly better then few years ago.The part about Nawrocki being abusive is also shocking , he always appeared as a mild-mannered, respectful and humble person.

What was the reaction from PZPS : also shocking, they renewed Nawrocki's contract to 2022 , regardless of what the outcome of the January's tournament will be !!!

    What a mess !!!"

  • It was confirmed on the Serbian NT thread by WZP

  • CRO had russian players in the past? naturalized ones?

Cuban players plays in more countries around the world, but Serbs mentioned only Croatian NT. Some Russian girl came to Mladost Zagreb in lately 80' before Serbian war agression against Croatia (when we live in criminal comunist Jugoslavia wiht Serbs) and stay here during the war agression time, and played for Croatian NT....

Italian NT have 3 african girls, if we talk honestly
