2020 Olympic Games - qualification

  • And this literally the end of Thailand volleyball. Probably everyone of their main star will retire

And after KYK retire Asia will have only 2 teams for big competitions.

    China and Japan.

  • Congrats South Korea! Congrats Lavarini and KYK! Well deserved ticket.

It is such a pity for Thailand, after those two heart breaking elimination in the last 8 years. At least this wasnt so tragic like the previous two.

    End of one generation again.

  • I'm not Thai,Korean or even Asian but I'm balling my eyes out right now😭😭😭for both teams.Thank you, volleyball, for making me an emotional mess...

  • But Thailand used to have much better ball control. It's essential when your team is undersized.

Nootsara is the best setter ever who will never play at the Olympics. There's no much she could've done today with bad passing, she doesn't have the luxury to set to 190-195 cm hitters like European setters do.

  • Beautiful work by Korea. They don't even gove a chance for Thailand to get a ticket.

Wonderful play by kim yeonkoung, Lee jaeyeong, Kim heejin though they were suffering from minor injury, Lee dayeong played good though she was unstable at the beginning.

Fully deserved tokyo ticket! Let's make some work more done in tokyo!

if you want to watch typical asia style volleyball,2003-2004 China is the peak.and 2009-2013 thailand and Japan are also good.you cant always rely on your old players, just like thai and Brasil.though Japan is weak recent years, they still have same style players.but for thai and Korea, they dont have.

I think Italy ,China and Russia have good young players of U18. China just do a special trainning for their youngesters. I think after 2020,we will see more of them.I think Serbia,Brasil,USA will suffer some hard time after 2020.I just want to make asian volleyball play well.but southeast asia is too short, and west asia and middle aisa is so poor and their women cant play sports.

  • My heart goes to the golden girls of Thailand. It's been 2 decades of working hard for that OG ticket, sad that it never came.

I feel bad whenever people discount the efforts of the rest of the Korean team whenever they praise KYK. Lee Jaeyoung and Kim Heejin were amazing today, I don't think it's fair. The Lee twins are gold for this team, I just hope they develop more explosive MBs in the future.

  • I'm just so mad at Thailand's coach. I mean, do you not see that your serve-receive game is super weak? And yet, you have not improved that department at all!!!! He needs to go ASAP!!:cursing:

I felt the same way about the coach.

There is a better youth club coach, but don't think he will ever take up the NT gig. With the current coach, I don't think the younger girls will achieve much. Heck, now that the 5 veteran will eventually retire one by one, the remaining younger girls will struggle a lot and they might even disappear from the world stage for some time or completely like Cuba.

True! But overall Asia is improving. Other Asian countries are developing their own leagues and we will see that result after Paris. They are closing the gap against Thailand.

  • After 10 of 12 participants of Tokyo Olympics are determined, the sure teams of both pools are now.

A: Japan, Serbia, Brazil, (South) Korea, Kenya

    B: China, USA, Russia, Italy

If DomRep wins today against Puerto Rico, they will complete pool A.

If Germany wins against Turkey, they will go in any case to pool B :what: - it will be extremely hard for them to go to the quarters then.

If DomRep should lose against Puerto Rico, Argentina will go to pool A instead and the winner of Turkey vs. Germany as well as Puerto Rico will be in pool B, so Turkey will be in pool B also in any case.

  • I heard some rumours that the last 2 places in each group is randomly drawn. Has anyone heard something similar?

False. Unless it's changed this year, which I don't think so.

  • according to this https://twitter.com/thavolleyball/status/1216352949154140160

the coach held himself accountable and is stepping down. I wonder who will be the next NT head coach of Thailand? a local or maybe a foreigner?

Please no, I really hope Thailand won't dissapear after this, the world needs more competitive National teams (which aren't a lot tbh) and not the good ones to vanish like Cuba did

same sentiment, I really hope they won't disappear after this.

  • Poor Nootsara, playing with mediocre players... I am team Lavarini for life, but it's though too see that Thai team not going to Tokyo (and probably never going to OG) ;(

Pornpun, Catchu-on, Ajcharaporn etc. can lead a 2nd generation imo. They need time, but they can do it!
