Italy- Superlega 2018/2019

  • Oleh Plotnytskyi's MRI shows a lesion of the quadriceps femoris on his left thigh. So he will sit out until the end of this month. Without Oleh, it's gonna be a tough battle for Monza to play against Padova tomorrow.

  • Padova 3:1 Monza

Padova played awfully in the first 2 sets with shaky reception. Travica also set up some bad balls for pos 4.

But Padova's been back to normal since set 3. Torres should be the MVP with his good attacking and serving. Without Oleh, Monza struggled with offense and serve. Dzavoronok is not stable too.

  • Trentino seem to know what Juantorena is going to do before he does it... It seems every swing he makes they get a touch on it somehow

  • Trentino's attacking system heavily relies on the solid reception. Once their reception is shaky, they don't have strong OHs or OPP to finish. Lube played well so far. Bruno is the key.

  • Yes, Bruno has been very good in this match. His serving and defence are generally good anyway. He is very focused today

  • Lube 3:1 Trentino

The set 3 and 4 had no drama. Trentino struggled with their poor reception through the whole game, and their serves were not online as well. Bruno outplayed Giannelli in this game. A solid win for Lube.

  • Lube did to Trentino what they did to them in the world club champs - it was all about the serve reception. Good for Lube I guess to get the revenge and get their confidence back, especially after the bad Perugia match last week.

  • Milano defeated Modena in the return round of Superlega. Nothing's impossible as of the moment but we can make a guess that Modena is returning to an optimal level after a less demanding schedule. Still unsure if Holt has recovered.

Verona is a rising team from the ashes. Kaziyski is having an impact that even Lube and Perugia had to win in tiebreaks. Trento suffered their first defeat after a long while including european and world club level that we can safely presume the the current world club champion is not going to take Verona lightly just because they are the world champions and Verona is just a mid-tier team.

If Plotniyski is not available, Lube will probably have an easier time dealing with Monza.

Leon have a microfracture with one of his right hand's finger. He's probably still going to play but Hoag can be available for him if he doesn't present a strong performance or if Padova does not challenge the Triplete Campione. For Padova, it's a matter of choosing between Cirovic and Barnes as Louati seems to be the undisputed holder.

  • My guess is Milano vs Modena may have a drama.

The other three games are all on top dogs' favour.

  • Vettori is making this extra difficult for Trento. He got some aces but I prefer more output from an opposite.

Lisinac-Giannelli connection is still going strong. Russell with all the difficult sets back and front. Always does when a game is on the line like this knockout quarterfinal round. Kovacevic doing better than the game vs Lube.

Very routine for Trento. All they really need is to defend like crazy and hope Vettori doesn't get blocked often to get this in 3.

Pretty disappointed with Verona so far but I guess Trentino just upped the ante. They make mistakes early in the sets but they always comes back which is very normal for a very good defensive and counter-attacking team.

I'm confused by this part considering Russell-Kovacevic are pretty well-versed out of system attackers in Superlega.

  • Trentino played a good game. Giannelli outplayed Spirito. Verona's poor reception is also a loophole.

Perugia played good too. Lanza still struggled with his serves, but he had a good serve run in set 4.

Leon still played very well even with his finger injury.

Both Aaron and Uros are fast-attacking players. Their attacking has a demanding of a fast set up to pos 4. They are not the type of OHs like Leon, Kliuka or NGapeth.

  • Trentino's current style is more like the style of USA NT. They have the good reception to guarantee a 4-spot attacking - pos 2,3,4 and back-row attacking. But if their reception is shaky, they have trouble. See how they lost to Lube last week.

Well, Giannelli sets up fast and the height overcomes the need for jump sets. It's true Russell and Kovacevic are fast OHs but they don't require a fast ball in front or the need for an even lethal opposite should've been of higher priority for Trentino than another high ball attacking OH which they desperately needed last season . They probably need most of that speedier setting from the backrow though as both players are trained to kill BIC sets than pipes but in front. I just have to disagree with your post.

Trento's reception is overrated. Probably why Scarpetta hates the statisticians upgrading Grebennikov's numbers to something legendary. :gone:One thing you failed to notice is Lube's improvement and they are even a more complete team than Trentino on paper even the bench is better for Lube. Trento play without an opposite. Lube plays with Sokolov. If Lube plays like they do on paper, Trentino's going to have a harder time even with better reception on their side as Vettori's best day just can't beat Sokolov on even his normal days.
