Perugia 3:2 Lube
Leon is the MVP for sure. His power serves and spikes in last three sets saved Perugia.
But Lube played a nice game. They had no energy left in set 5 after a 5 set game yesterday.
Leal's poor reception is a loophole for Lube.

Feel sorry for Lube... It was good they were not steamrolled and they made this good match. They still need to figure out how to deal with the big moments and also they still need the stability to be able to hold on to the leads they have in matches. This was what really cost them today. It was sometimes the bad reception, the bad set, etc but all in all, its their seeming inability to just continue playing with the same intensity and focus when they are in leading positions. Yes Leon made the difference at crucial times, but it was really because Lube kept giving away their advantage throughout the match. Hopefully this will improve moving forwards. It might be that the coach needs to be quicker with substitutions just to get the focus up - substitute even when its not a desperate situation, but just to keep momentum....

Haven't followed Perugia's matches very closely these days. In the rotation when Lanza is at Position 2, in order to reduce Lanza's burden, Bernardi has arranged Leon to spike from Position 5 such that Lanza doesn't need to move so far to Position 4 after reception. This seems to work quite well. When has Perugia started this arrangement?

That's because Jenia and Sander formed a solid reception line for Lube in CL final 2018. So Stankovic has a lot of chances to make quick attack. And Micah was really good at setting a fast ball at pos 3. This season Lube has been struggling with their reception.
As to reception,
Sander > Leal
Jenia > Balaso
Balaso's defense has improved a lot. But his reception has a long way to go.

It's been like this for a while in this season to help rotate when Lanza is at pos 2 and Atanasijevic at pos 4. It works well so far.
