So surprised Hyundai E&C managed to put together 3 wins on the trot.
Hyundai head coach Lee Do-hee has gone with a more defensive set-up by playing 15. Hwang Min-Kyung and 7. Go Yoo-Min on the left-hand side. As a result, the team's overall reception efficiency in those 3 wins were all above 40%. The drawback with this set-up is that Hyundai is more reliant on both 20. Milagros Collar (Maya) and 14. Yang Hyo-Jin to score the bulk of the points. Maya playing much better than I had expected. Min-Kyung had her first good game against IBK where she looks more solid in attack. Hopefully, Min-Kyung can start playing more like she did last season more regularly. Bravo to Hyundai for turning their season around.
So much was expected of KGC after they won the 2018 KOVO Cup, but since losing Alaina Bergsma to injury they have lost 9 consecutive matches.
Worst is the fact they have failed to win a single set in those 9 matches. One of the reasons why KGC have failed to win is their low spike success rate of 33.44% (829 kills from 2479 attempts), currently the worst in the league. However, there are two positive signs coming out of KGC are 2 of their rookies 6. Park Eun-Jin [MB] and 17. Lee Ye-Sol [OP] who have put in good performances in recent games. Both have even managed to score double-digit points a few time now. Eun-Jin has even managed to outscored her MB partner 4. Han Soo-Ji since she began to be in the starting line-up more regularly. Ye-Sol is showing strong and accurate spikes (Ye-Sol kind of remind me of Hyundai Hwang Youn-Joo). The expected return of Alaina in KGC next match against Heungkuk might mean that Ye-Sol will go back to the bench. But personally, even when Alaina does return I would like to see if Ye-Sol can play as a receiving OP like she was in her final year of high school volleyball.
