In the 1st Round (1R), the first 3 draft picks goes to the bottom 3 placed teams from last season (6th - Heungkuk, 5th KGC Ginseng, 4th - GS Caltex). The order of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd pick is decided by a lottery draw with Heungkuk getting 50% of the balls (#1-50), KGC Ginseng getting 35% of the balls (#51-85), and GS Caltex getting the remaining 15% of the balls (#86-100). 1R 4th pick goes to 3rd placed Hyundai E&C, 5th pick goes to 2nd placed IBK Altos, and 6th pick goes to 1st placed Expressway Corp. Hi-pass. Once the order of the 1R has been decided, the 2nd Round (2R) order is the reverse of the 1R order. 2R pick would go 1st - Expressway Corp. Hi-pass, 2nd - IBK Altos, 3rd - Hyundai E&C, 4th - 1R 3rd pick team, 5th - 1R 2nd pick team, and 6th - 1R 1st pick team. However both Expressway Hi-pass and IBK Altos have traded their 2R picks to KGC, so in the 2R KGC will have 3 picks, the 1st, 2nd, and their original 2R pick. The 3rd Round order is the same as 1R whilst the 4th Round (4R) order is the same as 2R. After 4R teams can select any remaining players as a trainee players.

  • When does the championship start?

I put the start date already in the 1st post, the new season will start on Monday, October 22nd. The women start a week or so after the men's league because of the world championship. A few of the teams have released their schedule already but KOVO have not yet release the overall schedule. I think the first match will be between Korea Expressway Corp. Hi-pass and IBK Altos on Oct 22, start time at 19:00 KST.

The result of the match is that Hi-pass defeated Toray 3-1 ( 25-14, 25-17, 25-20, 13-25 ). Some photos of the friendly can be found at www.kns.tv/ and www.kimcheon.co.kr/.

Some players look promising. This is going to be fun.

Yeah, this year batch is very promising and they are all fairly tall too (all of the Round 1 picks are all +180cm tall). Last year some in Korea were even suggesting that it would have been a great opportunity to start up a 7th women team like when IBK Altos was started up because there were so many good young players in this batch.

I was however surprised that Heungkuk selected Lee Yu-Ah with their 1st pick. I was most certain that Park Eun-Jin would be 1st pick whilst Yu-Ah would be 2nd based on what I saw online. Great MBs are a premium commodities in the V-League, you can see why this is the case when look at the top earners in the leagues are mostly MBs (eg, Yang Hyo-Jin, Kim Hee-Jin, Han Soo-ji are all earning the max of 300K KRW, Bae Yoo-Na and Kim Su-Ji are +200K KRW). That why both of Ju-Ah and Eun-Jin are so highly rated. KGC Ginseng really went after this new batch of rookies and it was genius of them to trade with other teams for their 2nd round picks :teach:.

Yang Hyo-Jin and Kim Hee-Jin have been good assets for their teams with the opposites alongside. It seems teams prefer to move tall players for the middle-blocker position instead of trying them out as opposites because of the foreign players.

  • The official schedule have now been released http://kovo.co.kr/news/61002_kovonews_view.asp?num=23744 (all time are in KST - GMT +9). Some days there are 2 matches held at the same time and some at the same time as the men.

I watched S.Korea NT when their only win in WCH against Trinidad Tobago NT.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPzthFIXlkk&t=4959s

The player you mention: Lee Ju-ah played full the whole match (3 sets) replacing Yang Hyojin as main MB and tandem with Kim Suji .. She really had a good match and looks very promising.. even the commentator praise her performance...

I hope she can develop more in her new club Heungkuk... and really can be the next Yang Hyo Jin, or even better than her...

And if you thought she's the 2nd "best" among the rookies, I think this season is gonna be exciting....

Unlike in Japan, Korea women do play during the week. Korean V-League is a fully professional league (and yet they are worst than the Japanese :aww:).

In Round 1, it may look like the women play everyday but this is because of the later start for this year (men start about a week ago) because of the Women World Championship. In order to have both the men and women rounds finish at about the same time, the women schedule is more pack in Round 1. Primarily after Round 1, the women will play on the weekend in the afternoon (1 match on Saturday and Sunday), and on Wednesday night (where there will be 2 matches held at the same time). Occasionally there maybe matches on the other week nights so that both men and women rounds finish at the same time.

KBS N Sports (official - Korea only? VPN needed?)

Naver VOD https://sports.news.naver.com/volleyball/vod/index.nhn (VPN may be required)

It seem like for the first week, all the women matches are broadcast live by KBS N Sports. There will be replays so check both channels scheduling for later that night or the day after. For the first 3 women games SBS Sports will show the replay the day after at 17:00 KST (time may change so check the schedule with the links below).

And if you thought she's the 2nd "best" among the rookies, I think this season is gonna be exciting....

I thought Lee Ju-Ah might have been 2nd pick (rather than 2nd best) because of comments on Korean sites, Park Eun-Jin having a slight height advantage, and the fact that Eun-Jin's high school team Sunmyung Girls' H.S. (alumni incl. the Lee twins, Ha Hye-Jin, Choi Eun-Ji, etc) having dominated the high school volleyball scene in recent years. Both Ju-Ah and Eun-Jin were always going to be first or second, depend on the team that won the draft lottery draw.

Heungkuk head coach Park Mi-Hee was reported to have said "I think the two players (Lee Joo-ah and Park Eun-jin) are promising players for the future, but Lee Ji-ah, who has the advantage in moving attacks, thinks it is a more appropriate character for our team". (Google translation from DongA article)

Yeah, let hope they both develop in to great players because Korea sure needs it. Like I said previous, this batch of rookies (R1 and R2) look very promising.

Btw Sunmyung Girls' H.S. have just recently won the 99th National Sport Festival tournament (a clean sweep of the four major tournaments this year) where they defeat Ju-Ah's Wongok H.S. team in round 1, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-23). Sources: 1, 2

    This Week Schedule:

  • If I read the stat right, PJA got 1.5 x more swings than Ivana... and she performed very well... maybe because it seems Ivana didn't perform well

At least they can try to balance the swings later matches, if PJA can keep her good performance...

On the other hand, Adora already got 80+ swings on her first match.. I hope they won't keep that way, or she could be injured early....
