aliona didn't play? any news as to why?
Like you, I was quite surprised when GS started the second match with an all Korean line-up. It was revealed after the game that during pre-match warm-up, OP Aliona Martiniuc condition wasn't good due to her knee again. Also, prior to the match, it was reported that OH Lee So-Young picked up a thumb injury on her left hand from the first match but was okay to play. Source: 1
Another thriller of a match, but more importantly GS Caltex has finally managed to beat Expressway Hi-pass in a 5-set match. With this win, GS has now levelled up the series 1-1 (Heungkuk must be loving this). Just like the regular season, I'm really loving how tight the playoffs have been.
GS basically steamrolled Hi-pass in the 1st set thanks to some good hitting and blocking. Kang So-Hwi was a standout in the 1st set and I think she had like 90% spike success rate. GS started the 2nd set well and look like they would comfortably win the 2nd set as well but Hi-pass dug deep to stay close to GS. Some untimely errors from GS and some good spiking from Park Jeong-Ah handed the 2nd set to Hi-pass. With the momentum, Hi-pass took the 3rd set comfortably. The 4th set was very nervy for GS as they had built up a lead twice but Hi-pass caught up on both occasions. At 21-20, some great serving from An Hye-Jin, who came on as a substitute to serve and a couple of points from So-Young gave the 4th set to GS. The 5th set was very tight too, but with GS regaining the lead at 11-10, Hi-pass finally cracked under the pressure with a couple of spiking errors. GS took the chance gifted by Hi-pass to take the 2nd match.
A great performance from So-Hwi who was named the match MVP. She finished the match with 31 points which included 26 spike kills (success rate of 44.07%), 2 aces and 3 block kills. So-Young with 6 block kills and a 40% spike success rate also played much better this time around, particularly in the latter half of the match. Hi-pass continue to blocks well but look very sluggish in attacks as Jeong-Ah was the only Hi-pass player to have a spike success rate above 30% mark.
Edit:
Btw I'm not sure if Aliona will play in last playoffs match today. Also, there is an article saying Hi-pass setter Lee Hyo-Hee has a finger injury. Source: 1
And here is the link for today live stream: www.laola1.tv/en-int/livestream/2019-03-19-korea-expressway-gs-caltex-seoul-kixx-len.

no wonder Hi-pass setter Lee Hyo-Hee hasnt been playing much. I would of thought she'd be playing all the PO games. their backup setter has been carrying too. next game should be intense. hopefully another 5set games (good for resting heungkuk hehehehe I'm so bad).
-
Once again GS are starting the match with an all Korean line-up but Ali is in the squad. I also saw her jump serving in the warm-up so she might make an appearance in the match later.
-
Heartbreaking result for GS, they've simply ran out of steam in the middle of third set. Maybe if Aliona was able to play, things might've ended up differently. Fatou Diouck tormented her former teammates in this game, she's doing much better this year.

Upcoming Finals Schedule:

Gimcheon need more scorers than just Fatou. She was incredible today, but she was alone... Heungkuk was a one body, collective. Gimcheon was Fatou, that's the difference.
Congrats to Heungkuk, they deserve a title! And of course I root for my compatriot - Berenika Tomsia
-
I'm glad they won, but I'm alittle disappointed at the performance by both teams for the first 2 sets.

Hi-pass are looking down the barrel now.
Heungkuk did well to get back into the 3rd set after trailing Hi-pass by 6 points.
-
And that's what I said... Heungkuk -> team, Hi Pass -> one player. Fatou Diouck can't play on high intensity all the time.
-
and that's my girl! Congratulations Heungkuk Pinkspider!
-
If I'm not mistaken, it's the first championship title for veteran Kim Hae-ran, arguably the best Korean libero in recent years. Both teams deserve highest praise, Hi-Pass played 7th game in 13 days but were still fighting to the very end. Splendid season.

And that's what I said... Heungkuk -> team, Hi Pass -> one player. Fatou Diouck can't play on high intensity all the time.
For me, Heungkuk is a 3 players team Lee Jae-Yeong, Tomsia, and Kim Hae-Ran.
One bad game from Hi-pass Korean players doesn't make Hi-pass a 1-player team.
Overall ranking from Regular Season:
Heungkuk Players
- 2nd Lee Jae-Yeong - 624 pts, played 30 matches, 111 sets
- 3rd Berenika Tomsia - 610 pts, played 30 matches, 111 sets
- 18th Kim Mi-Youn - 243 pts, played 30 matches, 111 sets
- 21st Kim Se-Young - 208 pts, played 30 matches, 111 sets
- 26th Lee Ju-Ah - 149 pts, played 28 matches, 92 sets
Hi-pass Players
- 4th Park Jeong-Ah - 588 pts, played 29 matches, 115 sets
- 9th Fatou Diouck - 454 pts, played 22 matches, 84 sets
- 14th Jung Dae-Young - 319 pts, played 29 matches, 115 sets
- 19th Bae Yoo-Na - 225 pts, played 26 matches, 103 sets
- 23rd Moon Jung-Won - 166 pts, played matches, 115 sets
Overall ranking from Championship matches:
- Fatou Diouck - 108 pts
- Lee Jae-Yeong - 107 pts
- Berenika Tomsia - 81 pts
- Park Jeong-Ah - 76 pts
- Bae Yoo-Na - 43 pts
- Jung Dae-Young - 36 pts
- Kim Mi-Youn - 32 pts
- Kim Se-Young - 19 pts
- Moon Jung-Won - 18 pts
- Lee Ju-Ah - 17 pts
If you compare both teams, you can see Heungkuk is more reliant on their two key players than Hi-pass are with their own two key players.
IMO one of the key reason why Heungkuk defeated Hi-pass was because of GS Caltex.
If I'm not mistaken, it's the first championship title for veteran Kim Hae-ran, arguably the best Korean libero in recent years. Both teams deserve highest praise, Hi-Pass played 7th game in 13 days but were still fighting to the very end. Splendid season.
Kim Hae-Ran (KHR) made her debut in 2002 and she has only played for Hi-pass (2002-2015) and KGC (2015-2017) before joining Heungkuk in 2017. Hi-pass only won their 1st V-League title last season and KGC only made the playoffs in 2016-2017 season. So yeah, it is KHR first championship win in the V-League (established in 2005).
Btw, this is Heungkuk first championship since the 2008/2009 season when KYK last playing for them. Also, Heungkuk now have their 4 Championship titles, the most out all the six teams in the league.

Do you know when the list of players that want to play in korean league next season will be announced?

Do you know when the list of players that want to play in korean league next season will be announced?
Most likely toward the end of April because the tryout for the foreign players will be held on May 1-3 in Toronto, Canada.
Don't worry, I will post it here when KOVO or the Korean media release the list.
