2019 Volleyball Nations League (VNL)

  • Quite impressive how Russia’s game has evolved with this new head coach and new set of players in just a short time. Might not be a bad idea to test Mikhailov in the OH when Kliuka or especially Volkov struggles to put out some balls. Poletaev/ Zemchenok duo on the right seem very capable at the moment. And Musersky completing the 4th MB forms Russia’s dream team. A mix of young and established players without depending too much with the veterans. Very impressive with Kobzar and Golubev

Lack of coaching is recently our main problem in woman volleyball too.

Anyway, thanks both teams for a great battle. I'm really impressed by Poletaev's performance today.

  • I would hold the conclusion after they play ECV and WC.

Remember Russia slayed other teams in VNL 2018, but they did not even make top 4 in WCH.

Im not concluding anything and Im only saying that seeing the contrast of their play from last year and previous years to now is just mind blowing. I really didnt think they can elevate and evolve their play this fast. they evolved from being dependent with the pins and Musersky to bail them out to playing all around. If they win the OQT next month with Iran as the only real threat to them, i definitely see them resting the regulars for the ECV and WC.

Russia most likely will have a different team with the "A' team playing EuroVolley, and maybe "B" team for WC as Euros literally end just days before WC starts.

  • Holy cow!!!

Jendryk is the game changer. Holy moly. All those serves at his end destroyed Brazil.

  • Why?

    Difficult question 😁

He just decided that these 24 hours more in Poland will give Polish team Olympic qualification, gold medal at ECH and WC

But seriously, his explanation was that he wants to join team which is preparing to Olympic qualies in Poland

Polish journalists make real drama because of it and that he left his team.

Interesting choice indeed. It would have been a bit more sense if he didn’t go to Chicago at the first place with that reason but leaving just before last one match makes no sense at all.

  • Bad match by Brazil, Wallace, Lucarelli and Leal struggled very much in attack and were all subbed. Quite a mess in every aspect of the game, nobody managed to change the trend. It looked like some of them didn't even really tried (Wallace and Lucas were quite off).

Poland had great blocks and a very good effort in defence, plus they put in trouble many times the reception line of Brazil with their serves. Good match from all the polish players, everybody contributed positively, with Bednorz being outstanding.

Brazil had their main rosters attend all VNL preliminary matches and final 6. They've been exhausted.

In final 6, they played three 5-set matches in a row in three days. They have nothing left in tank. Today it's an easy win for young Polish team.
