  • omg... but i didn't get it...
by September 15th we will know who are the top4 of ECH, and if Poland or Russia are between them, FIVB will take the other 2 teams as qualified.

and what about the Asian champ? It ends on September 21st lol

At the rate that it looks right now. Czech Republic or Croatia would have to finish in the top two, but against France and Slovenia, the chances do not look good for qualification otherwise.

For Africa, if Morocco and Cameroon win the semifinals, then the winner of the 3rd place (Tunisia/Egypt) match probably gets in.

FIVB is trying to get all the permutations together with those that are finished before the Asian Championships. Also with the data changing every hour, they want to have it finished before Asia starts their matches.

I don't know how long the paperwork is to get visas in Russia, but I am guessing that it is long.

As for Asia, if Japan and Iran take 1st and 2nd, then possibly South Korea gets in.

oooohh thank you! Now I totally got it.

But... sorry if it maybe sounds ignorant: why would they have to get visas for Russia? You mean the FIVB staff, the representatives of each National Condeferation?

I only know the drawing of lots is gonna be next September 30th in Moscow...

omg... so true! I didn't realise for a moment... thanks!

For the Asian champs i reiterate that Korea can really take a third spot in the ranking, since they're in the easiest group with Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia... for their next pool phase we'll see.
The only chances China and Australia have i think is by mading to the semifinals, this last one knows it and even called all the experience roster, Thomas Edgar is back.

It is really fun to watch and follow this path of the teams! Let's continue.

  • Tunisia win puts South Korea on the bubble. Egypt wins and Tunisia would move down some on points, unless 5 set loss, maybe they would stay ahead of Mexico.

South Korea with matches still to play, albeit against tougher competition to come, Chinese Taipei (next) and then second round.

AVC put out a bulletin to say that the AVC competition may be cancelled by the Japanese government today, so players are to be on their best COVID quarantine behavior for this tournament. If that happens, then Japan and Iran would get 1st and 2nd Asian slots in comparison to the women's tournament. South Korea is really hoping for a Tunisia win right now.

  • Being realistic everyone all the way down to Bulgaria is basically qualified already. Only places to take are the ones currently held by Korea and Ukraine.

And, again, realistically speaking I see only Taipei, Australia and Czechia with a chance to displace them.

I think Korea is the most in danger, they won't make the semis (they won't beat Iran with this weakened roster, let's be honest) and they could fall even lower in the 5th to 8th classification matches vs the likes of Qatar and China.

I agree. The next few games of the Asian Championships are crucial as some of the countries might just have a chance to get in the cutoff with these little differences in points. Based on all the matches I've watched, I think one or even both Chinese Taipei and Australia will get in.

  • the reasoning for the cut lines is basically, 24 is the total, but with teams still playing expectations are that the higher ranked teams will win to take the automatic slots.

Czech Republic has to win quarterfinals and semifinals to qualify, but that would take a spot on the bottom. They got 17 points with their 3-0 win over France.

Asia still has four matches left to play from tomorrow. If you win three matches and lose one you have, probably two matches with positive points net. So possibly 10-15 points swing. Plus if one of those is over Japan or Iran, it will push higher.

A couple of upsets in Asia with Chinese Taipei over South Korea and China over Japan. South Korea will not advance to the final 4, so they will have to earn their spot on points. Also with Chinese Taipei's win, Cameroon falls out of the Top 24 and China and Qatar are now above them as well. So the cut line would be at 23, but Puerto Rico is at 23, but could fall out as well with Chinese Taipei, Qatar and China all within 3 points of them, and South Korea just 1 point ahead of them. So the cut line as of right now is at 22. Pakistan was eliminated today as the will not make enough points and will not be in the Top 2.

I moved Cuba, Netherlands and Germany to the locks group because of their points situation. With only 3 games at most left, I don't think that they will be caught.

In Asia, Pool E has Qatar vs. China and Japan vs. Australia and both winners will make the Final four. Australia is almost on life support right now. Need to win out in my opinion. Qatar vs. China winner will probably jump into the top 24, but could drop with loss in semifinals.

If Poland win one semifinal, the winner of the 3rd place match will get the 2nd Place position for Europe.

Asian semifinals may shift a day due to a typhoon, but with China and Japan’s wins we are down to the 4 semifinal teams. As Japan and Iran are already locked in on World Ranking, China and Chinese Taipei wins would reduce by two the available spots. South Korea lost again today, so they are now outside of the top 24. If Japan and Iran win in the semifinals, the China-Chinese Taipei game is basically a play in game in my opinion.

If Poland win one semifinal, the winner of the 3rd place match will get the 2nd Place position for Europe.

Mexico is more than likely in at this point. Turkey and Egypt are likely as well with maybe 20-25 points left at most from Asia and only for one team can get 2 wins in a row in this stage, out of those just inside or outside the line. Bulgaria probably needs a combination of Japan-Iran wins in semifinals and Qatar loss, to guarantee their spot. They are really close, but they are within 20 points of Qatar. Not saying Qatar will get to to 20 points with two wins, but China and Taipei wins in semifinals, moves the line closer to Bulgaria.

Ukraine need Iran-Japan semifinal wins and a Qatar and a South Korea loss somewhere in the last two matches. Otherwise I think that they will be out.

At present with the updated version of qualifying (top 2 teams from each continent), host, world champions and then the top 12 teams.
