2022 FIVB World Championship - POL/SLO

  • For 32 teams, by far the best system IMO is the one FIFA world Cup used do far. 8 groups of 4 teams, top 2 qualify, then eightfinals, quarterfinals, semis and medal matches. Simple, easy to understand and leaves little room for meddling.

    That is too fast, please no. :lol:

    I would add and 2 groups in 1/8 :lol: Only semi to be elimination match. We would see a lot of great volleyball matches, it would be Christmas for volleyball fans. :lol:

  • - AVC Cup wasn't even in FIVB calendar for this year (and wasn't in 2018 either), so I'm quite sure that the problem is on AVC side that it hasn't been even considered an official regional tournament by FIVB (and U-19 Panamerican something is); not to mention that it's not that hard to create an annual regional event, CEV has organized Silver League for some 3rd tier countries like Cyprus for some time and it counts to FIVB ranking; it's obvious why ,,other annual events'' count to the FIVB ranking (in order to not allow creation of some ad-hoc regional tournaments from time to time to boost team's rankings, ,,annual'' brings some repetitiveness);

    - originally, qualies to the WCH were planned before COVID pandemics has started (what made the VNL, Olympics and continental championships organized in the same year for the first time in history);

    - both regional (eg. European Championship) and global (World Championship) events are planned to be expanded/have already been expanded to questionable number of participants;

    - VNL/World League was also expanded some time ago, but it was a failure since these 3rd division games were costly and didn't generate any income/interest;

    So the whole narrative in recent days here is based on some contractual assumptions, weird interpretation of the facts (basically on both continental and worldwide scope federations wanted to increase number of teams participating in the past decade, and the problem was in resources in volleyball in general since this extended World League formula was unaffordable -- and I read that rich countries want elitist competitions) and wrong direction of criticism (AVC Cup wasn't counted in a ranking not because of FIVB fault, but because of AVC mistake).

    Obviously, there's plenty of criticism that can be made towards FIVB: VNL as a commercial event with weird rules, wrong ranking criteria, lack of coordination of calendar, rules changing per annual basis etc. But - and I see that in discussions in Poland as well - some people assume that EVERYTHING is at FIVB's fault.

  • European league organized by cev is a great model that all other confederations should pick up. They even have golden and silver league which creates different levels of competition.

    I think I had been saying it before but I don't know why I need to say it again.

    Europe is a small continent with many countries. Travel time is not a big problem. But In Asia, it always be a problem. I just give a small example.

    Let's say Australia, Qatar, South Korea in a so called Asian Diamond league. Do you know how much time will cost to flight from Qatar to Australia? Forjust play one match? Then Australia to flight the same amount of time to play one match 2-3 days later? Also Korea to travel through equatorial to play one match with Australia is ridiculous.

    The home-away system like European league is not realistic in Asia. The only solution is to host tournaments in AVC. But the bad thing of tournament is the number of participating teams is limited because too many teams are burden to host nation. more teams=longer time=more cost.

    The last Asian men's championship was problematic because so many countries wanted to join but only 16 teams allowed. Teams like the Phillipines and Vietnam didn't get a chance to earn world ranking points. Those countries forever stuck in the bottom. No tournaments for them to improve their world ranking points.

    Of course, people can argue that because thouse countries have weak national teams. They don't have a good youth programme. They're financial unstable. Lots of reasons.

    Again, we're talking about how to grow this sport. A good performance of national team can boost the sport. Some countries don't have a chace to perform at all. How young people in those countries are motivated to learn volleyball? It's an endless loop.

    Maybe i have solution for traveling.

    You need to make zones like europe have in younger categories, small tournaments like BVA, MEWZA, WEVZA and winners to go for example to Qatar for final tournament.

    For example in one zone will only be neighbor country's.

    And every year different country to host for their neighbors.

    The similar formula to this version of WCH with only 24 teams. 6 pools of 4, 16 teams to qualify then quarterfinals, semifinals and medal matches.

    I like this formula.

    In pool stage, it looks like you only compete within your pool but in fact you're competing with other teams in other pools too. It takes 7 matches to grab the title. But 7 matches no room for any mistakes, need high attention to every match. If you think you're too big to fall, look how Bulgaria ended up.

  • There are 5 zones in AVC. West zone, Central zone, Eastern zone, Southeastern zone, Oceania zone.

  • And also divided into zones can't solve the problme. Because some countries from West zone will win to play the final round. some countries from Oceania will win the play the final round. You need to travel from West Asia to Oceania eventually.

    Again, Home-away system is not working in Asia. And smaller zone tournaments doesn't earn any world ranking poinits by FIVB's rules. It's endless loop for poor countries to develop volleyball.

    Zone tournaments às qualification for the finals. A competition doesnt need to bê home away match. In America isnt home away match.

  • Really? Korea lost to China last time they played, and Australia didn't even make the final four of the last AVC event.

    AVC traditionally gets 4 spots for the WCH. I'm pretty sure China can beat other AVC teams that are not named Japan or Iran.

    I'm surprised you went to highschool.

    Don't get triggered so easily and accept the fact you are utter trash, just playing in FIVB tournaments because they are a corrupt organization which only care about gettings loads of money from stupid federation as the chinese one, only to let them compete with the world's best.

    I suppose they regret their decision when they watch their teams getting swept in such a manner.

  • THAT'S ENOUGH! Respect different opinions and have a civilized discussion, or just stop with that and go somewhere else, we don't need angry posts and toxicity here! We are having a match right now, stop with these fights and off-topic non-sense and go watch the fucking game! I just want comments about SLO vs GER from now on

    I respect you as a mod but there is honestly no need to respect the above poster's opinion.

  • A pity that Cuba collapsed in the 4th set due to their own errors and poor sets after showing some great resistances in the 2nd & 3rd sets. If they can’t find a better setter, all world class hitters they have would still be wasted.

  • Goide killed the team in the 4th. What a pitty. I was rooting for a tie break.

  • An other bad game for Italy ( I mean bad game against a good team). Better now than after with stronger teams. I hope that they can do something better in the next match. Also I do not now what happen with the outside spiker but specially michelleto is worst from the last year and his power in the attack is just a joke. Everyone can defend him even with one block in front of him.
