Thanks tomen for the steady flows of information on the Chinese women's volleyball team

Just regain my login access after a long break post-WCH.

Due to the Chinese team playing their best lineup in Macao and much possibly in HKSAR as well, I just signed up FIVB World TV for the whole VNL + Olympic Qualification + World Cup at euro 15, bargain price for much lesser volleyball nations whereas volleyball is not significant at all. A nice treat to witness Zhu et al with cool viewing quality. Hahaha

I get the impression that Yuan XY, Zhang CN, Li YY all seem to play better in the Week Two of VNL (cf. to the WCH). But the opponents were relatively weak in that week thus there's risk the observation is far from sound, and the opponents will be getting stronger in the subsequent legs, after that the situation may be clearer. But the core team's performance is so far so good, commendable! Keep on watching!!

The Chinese team took a bus from Macao directly to HKSAR crossing the Hong Kong–Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) just opened to traffic at the end of 2018. A very convenient trip for the team compared to the

previous occasions.

Having exercise in the HK venue, the team conducted open match training among the roster themselves, attended by around 2,000 spectators. The players also had signed photograph session with the local fans.

Li Yanlong, the head coach of U23, where is the rumor from ? I just know most of the club coaches are not interested in this position.

In the 2018 VNL HKSAR Station, facing with the opponent of the Japanese team, the Chinese women's volleyball team has firmly grasped the initiative to straighten the opponent in three straight games with a targeted block. The score of the three games was 25-21, 25-19 and 25-17. Zhu Ting won the highest score of 19 points by then.

Today the two teams will again meet each other in the 2019 VNL. Lang Ping has praised highly the performance of the Japanese squad in this VNL, wish the Chinese team will learn from the Japanese squad in defensive efforts.

It will be an interesting match to the feast of all spectators.

Btw, it seems the current main attack combination set by Lang Ping is Zhu Zhang Li (that is Zhu Ting, Zhang Chang-ning, Li Ying-ying), taking up the place of the former combination, Zhu Yuan Zhang.

Just pay attention for this Hong Kong leg.

Some team members of the Chinese gold medalist of the 2004 Athens Olympics (plus Wei Qiu-ye) were spotted to watch the match of China vs Netherlands on 2019.06.05 at the Hong Kong Coliseum, sitting in a row yet captured in two screenshots:

The British sports commentator at the matches at Hong Kong, Simon Golding, is amazing. I am really perplexed how could he invent following fabulous yet unreal stories about the Chinese women's volleyball:

• on 2019.06.04 CHN vs JPN match: he said that "Lang Ping went to nationwide scouting new volleyball talents among the potential athletes in other sports" (he mentioned few sports that I don't recall) -- the talent scouting in the Chinese sports realm, in particular women's volleyball, does not work like that, there's a distributed system from the early levels at schools to provincial to club to the NT, things that happened with Li Ying-ying and Yang Han-yu for instances. No one randomly hunts down any talent countrywide in that vast nation as China!
• on 2019.06.05 CHN vs NED match: one of his narrative was even more spectacular, he said that "when Lang Ping got married that day became the national day in China due to Lang's popularity"... it's truly hilarious, yet for listeners who don't understand China they may take his statement as fact! I just feel really amazed how could he invent such story to impress his listeners

But aside from these few peculiarities, he's good in commenting, and gave lots of useful technical info.

Note: The FIVB English commentator, Simon Golding, commented that Ding Xia was faulted for playing the ball at the Japanese side of court, but the replay incl the Hawk-Eye Challenge clearly showed that Ding Xia only jumped and raised her hands at blocking position at the Chinese side of court and not crossed the net, not touched the ball that actually hit the net at the Japanese side of court, thus no fault indeed. The referees had the faulty call and remained to be faulty even though Hawk-Eye challenge had proved their wrong decision.
