  • I wonder how they will use Wu Mengjie, at OH, MB, or OPP?

Wu is mainly as an OH in this year's matches.

It's not a secret. I can say it.

  • The Girls' U18 World Championship

This 2019 competition will be the 12th times for the Chinese team to play in the Girls' U18 World Championship. In the past competitions, the Chinese team won Gold medals four times, namely in 2001, 2003, 2007 and 2013. And won the Silver medal in 2011 and Bronze medal in 2015.

However, in the 2017 FIVB Girls' U18 World Championships, because of the conflicting schedule with the National Games Youth Group competition, the Chinese U18 core players were all not available, resulting in the team's very poor result, winning the penultimate position, the 19th place [out of the 20 teams] against the Cuban team, it was the Chinese team's worst record!

This time with the core players are available, a much better achievement is expected!

The team will be led by the main attackers, Wu Meng-jie (captain) and Zhuang Yu-shan.

Wu Meng-jie, from Jiangsu VC, 17 years old, 191cm

Zhuang Yu-shan, from Fujian VC, 16 years old, 187cm

  • Chinese 25 Big List for the 2019 World Cup

On September 5th, the FIVB updated the big list of 25 Chinese women's volleyball teams in the World Cup. The final 14-roster list will be announced [at the latest 24 hours] before the match.

    The list is as follows:

OH: Zhu Ting (Captain), Zhang Chang-ning, Li Ying-ying, Liu Xiao-tong, Liu Yan-han, Duan Fang, Wu Han, Wang Yi-zhu

MB: Yuan Xin-yue, Yan Ni, Wang Yuan-yuan, Hu Ming-yuan, Zheng Yi-xin, Yang Han-yu, Gao Yi

    OP: Gong Xiang-yu, Zeng Chun-lei, Du Qing-qing

S: Ding Xia, Yao Di, Diao Lin-yu, Sun Hai-ping

    L: Lin Li, Wang Meng-jie, Ni Fei-fan

“There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.”

  • Currently following 16 players are conducting the final preparation for World Cup in the training camp at Beijing:

OH (5 players): Zhu Ting, Zhang Chang-ning, Li Ying-ying, Liu Xiao-tong, Liu Yan-han

    MB (5): Yan Ni, Yuan Xin-yue, Wang Yuan-yuan, Zheng Yi-xin, Yang Han-yu

    OP (2): Gong Xiang-yu, Zeng Chun-lei

S (2): Ding Xia, Yao Di

    L (2): Lin Li, Wang Meng-jie

Among these 16 players, unfortunately two players will need to be dropped.

The highly suspected candidates to be cut out are: Wang Yuan-yuan and Yang Han-yu, means Liu Yan-han will stay with the team to the World Cup. Zheng Yi-xin seems to be safe with her position this time. In any case two out of these four names will be dropped. Well, pretty soon time will ascertain. And after the World Cup, most likely the Chinese team will retake its WR #1 position since the Serbian team leaves its many key players at home.

The match schedules of Chinese team:

    1.KOR 2.CAM 3.RUS 4.DOM 5.JPN

    6.BRA 7.USA 8.KEN

    9.NED 10.SRB 11.ARG

  • Japan has announced 15 players for world cup and 14 of them are selected for each match, so will China send all of the 16 players to Japan ?

  • Japan has announced 15 players for world cup and 14 of them are selected for each match, so will China send all of the 16 players to Japan ?

I think the 14-roster is FIXED once decided.

Can team change the 14 players for EACH match? I just don't think such flexibility is allowed.

But perhaps each team can carry few more players upon their own cost and accommodation arrangements, perhaps for the team spirit purpose. In the Chinese team's case, all the 16 players who have been training together for this event.

  • Zeng Chun-lei 曾春蕾 vs Chen Pei-yan 陈佩妍 — The Prospect for 2020 Tokyo OG

Chen Pei-yan 陈佩妍 from Guangdong (born in September 1999) is 194cm tall, strong in body and outstanding in offensive strength. She has many fans at the beginning of her debut in 2017. However, in 2018, Chen Pei-yan’s performance was not satisfactory, and she was basically eliminated by the National Team. When the fans thought that Chen Pei-yan had no chance, she broke out in 2019.

In the 2019 National Women's Volleyball Championship and the women's volleyball tournaments in the past few days, Chen Pei-yan’s performance made the fans shine and shouted unexpectedly and repeatedly. In these two competitions, Chen's offensive was heavy and very lethal. Surprisingly, she actually began to pick up passes, and it was a surprise to see those decent passes by her. In just one year, Chen Pei-yan’s upward momentum has been too strong to ignore.

The rise of Chen Pei-yan has made the prospect of Zeng Chun-lei 曾春蕾 for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics once again cast a layer of doubt. In order to successfully qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Zeng Chun-lei must be able to withstand the impact of Chen Pei-yan's rise!

  • Is there any video about her?

  • The World Cup team will NO longer need to provide a list of 14 players for the ENTIRE tournament, but will instead provide a list of 14 players for EACH MATCH at least 24 hours in advance.

The Chinese team currently has 16 athletes on this expedition. According to the rules of the FIVB, within the limit of 25 players, the team will no longer need to provide a list of 14 players for the WHOLE tournament, but will instead provide a list of 14 players for the EACH MATCH. IN THEORY, all the players in the 25-player strong squad are possible to participate in the World Cup. That's why there are 16 Chinese players in this tournament.

In addition, the World Cup team can REDEFINE the LIBERO in each match, that is to say, the libero in the last match can be assigned as an ordinary player in the next match, and the ordinary player in the last match can be determined as a libero in the next match. Team's roster can be changed according to different opponents and tactical arrangements.

The detailed CNT list for the World Cup is as follows:

OH: Zhu Ting, Zhang Chang-ning, Liu Xiao-tong, Li Ying-ying, Liu Yan-han

MB: Yuan Xin-yue, Yan Ni, Wang Yuan-yuan, Zheng Yi-xin, Yang Han-yu

    OP: Zeng Chun-lei, Gong Xiang-yu

  • Chinese Women's Volleyball Team embarks on the World Cup. Lang Ping prepares a 16-member team to defend the title.

On September 10, Chinese women's volleyball team officially headed by Lang Ping went to Japan, where the FIVB Women's Volleyball World Cup will be held. As defending champion, the Chinese team undoubtedly hope to win the gold medal again.

Unlike previous editions, the day before departure, the Chinese women's volleyball team did not published a list of 14 players, but instead brought along all the 16 players having training together in Beijing training camp to Japan. It is related to the FIVB's new regulation of the current tournament, no longer limited to only 14 players, giving teams more line-up flexibilities. More varieties of combinations of players will be one of Lang Ping's considerations in this World Cup.

The head of the General Administration of Sports sees the team off.

The 2019 FIVB Women's Volleyball World Cup will kick off in Japan on September 14. For Chinese team, this tournament will be the most important international competition before the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Because Japan is not far away and the team has had many matches in Japan in the past years, the team has not travelled to Japan too much in advance, but just left on Tuesday early morning of the September 10th.

Four years ago, the Chinese team won the championship in the fierce World Cup competition. That was the very first world champion that Lang Ping has won since she came back as the Chinese NT head coach in 2013. At the same time, the Chinese team also won the third World-level championship again after 11-year lapse following the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

The immediate successive year after winning the World Cup, the Chinese women's volleyball team went all the way to the championship podium in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, creating a golden generation of brilliance.

At the Tokyo Olympic qualifying match held in Beilun, Ningbo, in August, the Chinese team has successfully won the ticket to the Olympic Games. When they go to the World Cup, the team can meet the challenges with a more relaxed attitude.

The 16-player list gives more players the tournament exercise opportunities

On this trip to Japan, the Chinese women's volleyball team did not announce a list of 14 players as it did in the previous tournament, but the team made the trip with 16 players.

[The 16 players are the same as my just preceeding post above.]

This team comprises of the most complete players the Chinese team has within the last two years.

The reason why this tournament can take 16 people to travel is that the FIVB has adjusted the relevant provisions - from the previous tournament required the submission of 14 names in advance, to now becomes eligible the submission of 14 names to participate before EACH MATCH.

This also means that each team can theoretically bring all the players who are selected into the 25-strong list to Japan to increase the team's choice of players on the court, but for the reasons of championship and stable lineup running-in, each team has its own choice.

For example, the American team published a list of 14 players earlier, the Brazilian team only brought 14 players, while the host Japanese team published a list of 15 players.

By contrast, the Chinese team has a relatively large number of 16 players, which is also for the purpose of training more players.

At present, in addition to the main players who are in a stable position, Liu Yan-han and Zheng Yi-xin, who played well in the finals of this year's VNL, and Yang Han-yu, who was picked as one of the best middle blockers in this year's Asian Women's Volleyball Championship, have shown their potential.

In order to give more opportunities for players to perform, Lang Ping brought several "alternatives" to Japan, giving the players the test of the competition at the same time, but also for having more reserves for the next year's Tokyo Olympic Games.

  • Regarding the match schedule, the Chinese team will play against the host team, Japan, at the prime time at 18:30 Beijing time, the match against Cameroon is arranged at 11:30 Beijing time, while the other 9 matches, will be done at 14 o'clock Beijing Time. This after lunch time is often the lunch break of the Chinese team, objectively it's inevitable to pose some certain impact on the players' biological clocks and competitive states. Despite this difficulty, the Chinese team must overcome these unfavorable factors if the team wants to defend its title.

Add a beautiful team picture (I think it's taken at the end of IOQT, Beilun Ningbo, Aug. 2019)... this same team plus Liu Yan-han and Yang Han-yu make up the whole team in the 2019 World Cup, Japan.

  • The Chinese Sports media did correctly quoted the FIVB's latest rule tweak on the 14-player list, especially applied for the 2019 WORLD CUP. The 14-player list is to be decided by the team FOR EACH MATCH, and NOT the one fixed list for Whole Tournament as usually done previously!

tomen -- it's a nice table to track whose players do miss the each match.
