2022 FIVB Women's World Championships - Netherlands and Poland

  • They will have.

The details are not known yes but as I wrote yesterday. Poland will play 2 games in the Netherlands and 3 in Poland on the first phase.

God, this already sounds like a train wreck. Why would you have to move a team in the first round to another country? It is one thing for a special opener, Poland in 2014 and Rome in 2018. But for two matches and then fly to another country. I feel sorry for the travel managers already.

This was one the things that I hated with Italy-Bulgaria last year, instead making it simple. They intermingled in the second round Pools from both countries from the first round, instead of just saying “These two Pools, stay in Italy and these two Pools stay in Bulgaria.” So teams may not have known if they were staying in Italy or going to Bulgaria until the final match was played.

Imagine as a fan that you wanted to watch the USA in the second round expecting to be in Italy and then going to Bulgaria. You were stuck in Italy (not in a bad way), not being able to watch them.

Some of the reasoning to intermingle was to keep the hosts in the tournament as long as possible, however Bulgaria had a tough first round and needed a lot of help to make the third round.

The more convoluted the design of this tournament it makes it worse for the fans and the teams to experience this action.

  • According to an article posted by the Argentine Volleyball Federation today.

There will be a new set up for the qualification for 2022.

The host (Netherlands) and World Champions (Serbia) will qualify directly, which is the same as it has been.

However, for the remaining 22 slots in the tournaments, it will be done as follows.

The top two teams from continental qualification tournaments (AVC, CAVB, CEV, CSV & NORCECA) will automatically clinch their spots. So 10 of the 22 slots.

The remaining 12 slots will have 6 intercontinental pools of 4 teams. The the top two teams of each pool will qualify for the tournament.

  • I don't know if it will be exactly like this. Poland is also the host of WCH 2022, not only the Netherlands.

  • I don't know if it will be exactly like this. Poland is also the host of WCH 2022, not only the Netherlands.

Also I wanted to add, that this article says that host of men's WCH is still unknown, while we know the host for some time already. So maybe some detail need to be updated as women's WCH have two hosts.

  • Polish federation wrote today that the qualification system will be like stated by FEVA. Since women's tournament has 2 hosts both of them are automtically qualifed, Serbia as WCH 2018 as well (they said that Boricic was opting against the rule that WCH defending team should be automatically qualified, this guy is just crazy and he is in charge of CEV...). Two teams from each confedaration will qualify via continental championships so no extra tournaments to be played. Then 24 non-qualified teams will play in 6 groups of 4 teams and 6 winners and 5 best runner-ups will get a ticket to WCH 2022.

As far as the formula of competitions. 1st round with 24 teams split into 4 groups of 6 teams. 2nd round - two groups with 8 teams each. It looks like it will be the same formula as in 2018.

  • Now is official the qualification process to next world Championship.

Like in previous editions the host and previous world champion get a ticket

Because of covid, next year won't have the world qualifiers so the 11 best placed teams not qualified in their continents (CAVB,CSV,NORCECA,CEV gives tickets to 2 best placed teams) gonna qualify through ranking at the end of the year

At Europe,in case the teams already qualified finish in podium, the next team not qualified gets the ticket

  • From first glance it looks like CEV's gain and NORCECA's loses (not that, in terms of volleyball, is a bad thing)

    covid ruin it all

just today I tought about this world chmps

IMO it would be THE BEST OF ALL TIME

Cause we will have 5 european teams and probably till 10 or 11

Now with this it won't be possible

Cause they're some good teams like czech republic, croatia, belarus, etc that are way behind african teams or argentina

But in court they win easily to these teams

  • CAVB will only get its two quota spots. Argentina will most likely get in through CSV's championship anyways.

Looking at 2018 teams to who might qualify now there, it looks like CEV might gain 1-2-3 spots depending how rankings move and how teams perform in the continental championship. I think CEV should be the happiest. (CR and Croatia are in ok spots but need points. Belarus would be a miracle)

NORCECA will lose the most spots.

  • I think FIVB wanted to make their new super ranking more important than ever but there won't be many international tournament next year, even the qualifications for Challenger Cup were cancelled. So, team like Colombia will not have many opportunities to play against other NTs.

I'm not really sure how the points system will work in case Colombia or Peru will play only few games and Czech Republic for example many more (European League , Challenger Cup probably and EuroVolley).

  • From what I understand, the CEV teams playing more matches mean its more opportunities from them to lose points, if they don't perform to the level the algorithm decides? idk lol

Do points get taken off in the rankings? Like Colombia drops its 2019 CSV second place points once 2021 CSV championship takes place? Cause I feel Argentina could overtake them for that spot.

  • the fivb rankings give me a headache.

I found the solution to that is to not think about them at all (and I'm not being facetious; by making them so complicated, it will almost certainly have the unintended consequence of less people caring for it).

  • Yes, teams can lose points.

The algorithm works based on the game results and opponent's quality. I think Czech Republic might definitely lose some points and it would give a chance for Mexico or Peru.

I think Colombia might lose some points, but I hope they will play WCH anyway, cause I root for them :D

Canada's case is different. They will play VNL next year and there are many good opponents so they can lose some or gain many points.

  • So does this mean China, USA, Brazil, Turkey, etc won't have to play qualifiers since they can get in based on their ranking alone?

    NO

first are the continental championship and then the qualifiers, all year tournaments gonna be valuable in the final ranking

Maybe china only didn't send her best to avc

Turkey always send his A team. To european

And brazil.even if they know they win even with C team, they always send his best available players to South American Championship

  • Not so fast lol Brazil lost to Argentina and Colombia with the B team last year:whistle:

  • No so fast lol Brazil lost to Argentina and Colombia with the B team last year:whistle:

At south American championship they won

They oh were lana and maira so both awful, the rest of the team was the same at sach and they win
