Serbia with messy reception (as expected) and a bit more service errors, but other elemnts are quite good, block/defense, transition, attack, in one i see this as solid start of competition.
Still Lozo as starter is essential for us.

I can't stand Kästner her silly errors on free balls
Important win for Germany, Bulgaria is a very strong opponent and losing against them would have caused a lot of pressure in the match vs Canada.
Schölzel 6 blocks in 4 sets today after having 10 blocks in the whole VNL. Maybe Heynen is a magician after all
Tica

you mean the ranking updates? it's based on the point difference between the two teams.
I watched only the first set and a half, but what I've seen Brankica was actually solid and to a lesser extent so was Busa (I see her percentages sharply dropped in the latter half of the match). Bad game for Aleksic. Fairly good serving performance from the whole team, even with such a relatively high number of errors. Tica her usual dominating self (even while visibly at half speed)
I've never seen any player intentionally aim for the tip of the net so many times in a single match as Maglio (I think it was?).

Thanks for the answer! So it doesn't matter if one team is number 5 and the other is number 6th, as long as point difference between these two is high, the impact of the game score on the ranking update will be high too?

Yes, that is mostly correct. If the point difference is high, then the impact will be high if the lower-ranked team wins, and will be low if the higher-ranked team wins.
currently watching replay.
It is *really* weird listening to the national anthems with ref whistles going off in the background.
Brankica worked so hard to get back into playing shape. I’m so happy it paid off
One of the reason for combined roster was probably change of schedule by fivb.
Bulgaria vs Serbia was originally scheduled at 17:00, but fivb changed it to 15:30, they now have even less time for recovery and rest.

While her performance today is encouraging, let's wait to be sure it's not a one-off.

That's a good point. Also, I could have sworn that when I checked yesterday, the match with Canada was scheduled at 16:00...

oh I don’t think she’s back to her world class form or anything. Just the fact that she’s healthy enough to swing like that I’m happy for her personally bc she worked so hard to get healthy

they did research to look at point levels of teams going back as far as they could. What they found was that if there was a huge gap in points, it was usually a 3-0 win for the team with more points, so teams are not really rewarded if they win 3-1 or 3-2 because you should have swept.
whereas if the team with lower points won, they would get a big bump, also depending on the competition such as a the Olympics, which mean more.
So Brazil beating Czech Republic 3-1 (203 point difference) actually got them 0 points as they were expected to win 3-0, probably a 2-3 ranking points at most even sweeping. Czech Republic would have probably got a big bump if winning 3-0.
Japan got 5 points for their sweep over Columbia (around 98 points gap).
Thailand got 11.82 points for their 3-2 win over Turkey, around 104 points difference.
the reason for staggering matches is to ensure that there is action always going (albeit 3-0 sweeps do happen). It is using the NCAA basketball tournament as an example. If the game is close, fans can watch that game, but if a game is kind of a blowout, I’ll switch to the other game if there is one.
Also I would think that fans can move from one match another in the dome if they have purchased a ticket.
part of the reasoning is that having 3 matches back-to-back-to-back is a long day in one venue, minimum 9 hours if a fan stayed for all 3 matches give or take if they all went 5 sets. This way you can reduce their time to say 6-7 hours.
