• What happened with Kadochkina this summer? She is a beast but she wasn't neither in VNL, junior NT, or olympic qualification tournament. Anyone know the reason? Will she play at U18 WCH?

As far as I know, she has health issues, she is in Italy for rehabilitation. Most likely, she will skip the main national team this year and the next year. She is a young one, as far as I know, our head coach will give her a chance in the future, not now. She'll play at the U-18 WCH.

  • Russia needs another decent attacking OH when either one of Parubets or Voronkova is not playing well. With Kosheleva out, I don't see anyone from the current team who can do this job. Kadochkina would be perfect for this and Pankov is dumb enough if he won't invite her to the team next year..She doesn't need to prove herself with the junior team lmao

Fetisova and Koroleva is the most balanced MB duo Russia has in years, they can probably add Lyubushkina as the 4th MB as they need a serving specialist and Lyubushkina can fit this role to a T.

Galkina is so consistent, I don't think Malova is hugely missed from her role in NT.

Lastly, Goncharova she may be nearing the end of her prime but she showed everyone she is still Russia's go-to-player after all these years such a trooper! Hope she stays injury-free and continues to play high level leading to Tokyo which will probably her last Olympics!

Thanks, but don't understand how can she play U18 WCH if she is doing some rehabilitation. Is she ok now? Does she have an Instagram or other social profile I can follow?

  • I'd gladly invite Kosheleva back to NT, but only if she accepts being a bench player, perhaps as Goncha's back-up.

There's no Sokolova nor Shcherban who could play a 2 woman passing role nor do I think Galkina could handle that. So the most ideal scenario will be Ilchenko-Voronkova duo as OH.

  • I believe Tokyo will be Russia`s come back party. I just have a feeling Goncha-Voronkova-Parutes trio plus Fetisova-Koroleva with Startseva will surprise us all.

I`m not sure if they should bring back Kosheleva....I would say NO, but I guess if she`s healthy she could help from bench.

Kaliningrad has one of the best crowds in volleyball.

That win in the Qualies will give them 100 times the boost that knocking Korea out of the park 3–0 would have. I agree with your sentiment

    I have the same feeling.

In fact, this sensation has already shown everyone during the 2018 world championship, where Russia was in first place with the best reception of the championship for 6 rounds (Parubets + Galkina).

I think with Kosheleva back, Russia will return to the slow game, where only Kosheleva and Goncharova get balls, and the other players have to cover Kosheleva from the receiving line.

The trio format by Goncharova + Voronkova + Parubets is very solid.

During the Olympic qualifying all saw Russia play as a team, not just Goncharova receiving. The game was decided by its central players, Fetisova in the block and Korolova in the attack. This never existed in Russia.

It is a new era for female players. I think Kosheleva should be Goncharova's reserve, only.

I am very happy to see a team like Russia fighting and playing with the heart. They had fire in their eyes, shouting at each other, jumping. I never saw Russia that way. I hope the team goes on like this.

I just wish Lazareva and Kadokchina were called. Lazareva is Goncharova's successor, in my opinion there is no other player who can replace Natalya at the moment.

  • I was surprised (almost shocked) by the form of several players. They had two months to prepare for the most important game of the NT season and they were not (especially compared to Korea). I have no problem with them skipping the VNL but they should have been level. The problem seems to be the coaching staff. I like that Pankov tends to use young players who play in their clubs, but I am not sure if he is the right man to help improve players. Zarechie did not seem improved last season even though the played almost with the same team as the year before. Iurinskaya, Russu and Vorobyeva were in my opinion not able to make a step forward. I think it would be good if he would step down as NT coach, but the options in Russia are not great and I doubt that the Russian federation will hire a foreigner...

  • i also advocate the hiring of a foreign coach. Russia has failed to earn a medal on the olympics post-Karpol era (although they hired Caprara as coach). They still have a pool of competitive players just waiting for the right coach to bring out the best in them.

  • With Karpol, Russia never missed a SF. Without him, they havent yet qualified to one.

  • Tatiana Kadochkina's instagram account confirms she has joined the U-18 national team. According to her instagram account, they are in Italy now and preparing for the WCH. Good luck them. #17:heart:

Hope her transition to the senior team from the junior team will be as soon as possible.

Actually it was Sant'Agata di Militello not Sant'Ambrogio 😅. I watched the game on Saturday and Italy won 3-0. They played also yesterday in Bagheria(3-2 Italy), and they'll play on Tuesday in Carini.

  • If not this year, Kadochkina needs to be in the Senior Team next year. She is already a starter In Kazan, I don't see the value of her participating in these age-tournaments to be honest. Russia NT needs another OH who can terminate, as Parubets-Voronkova is not stable in attack as what was shown in Olympic qualifiers.. This problem will become even more apparent in ECH. Kadochkina should take the role of Kosheleva in NT with hopefully better reception as she is young and can still improve

I'm not sure if Kadochkina will be a starter next season in Kazan. They have De la Cruz and Kotikova on OH and Fabris on OPP. I think it is important that she get's enough time to rest and recover since she is still really young. The worst thing that could happen would be to lose the most important young Russian player to injuries.

    Kadochkina > Kotikova

  • AFAIK, unfortunately Kadochkina skipped the VNL due to her rehabilitation.

there was a plan to give her a chance either IOGQ or ECH, but unluckily that plan was failed afterwards.

AFAIK, 12 players are allowed to participate at the OGs, I for one think next year participating in the Russian NT will be much tougher for Kadochkina than now's. Let's not forget about Kosheleva and Khodunova for the next year.

Kosheleva, as much as I love her, I think she really needs to stay away from the NT. She is not the same player as before and her potency in attack has dropped significantly so what can she offer to the team sicnce she has zero reception skills. The only role I can think of Koshe where she can contribute is as backup OPP to Goncha but I doubt she will accept that role..

Khodunova,I agree can be an asset on the team but we still need to wait and see how she performs after that injury.

  • I agree they should keep Kosheleva out, unless she has a great season in China and plays well in VNL. ( I think they should make her play VNL and earn her spot by showing she can actually help the team, otherwise no Olympics for her).

  • Kadochkina > Kotikova

    60 Котикова Анна 22-79 269 3.41 +88 276 27 0.34 554 41% 28% 533 218 41% 24 0.30 42 43 48 133

    109 Кадочкина Татьяна 17-50 149 2.98 +55 100 11 0.22 105 21% 10% 266 127 48% 11 0.22 16 22 28 66

I agree that Kadochkina will be the better player but Kotikova's reception was much better last season... De la Cruz and Kadochkina would mean that Malova had to cover most of the field...

  • Vice Olympic Champion (2000) and World Champion (2006) Elena Godina was not at all pleased with the Russian performance at VNL.

In an interview she said that the Russian Federation had shot the younger players, but negatively.

In Yekaterinburg, Russia lost all three matches in front of a gym full of fans who were used to the triumphs of Gamova, Sokolova, Godina and Artamonova.

The former Russian striker said she was disappointed by current national team stars Goncharova and Kosheleva. “The most experienced as Nataliya and Tatiana should be on the court with our team, we are in pre-Olympic year! In my time there was not all this rest time, 2 weeks was a lot. Now it's different, they make their own agenda, and the committee turns around! ”Said Godina.
