South Korea - Women's V-League 2019-2020

  • Hyundai really need a good backup setter for Lee Dayeong

She can't do setter job alone like the last 2 seasons

Plus being the main setter for national team too, the risk of injury is too high

From last kovo cup matches that I watched, their current backup setter still kinda lacking..

Yeah, Hyundai definitely needed another backup setter for Da-Yeong.

Looking at all the backup setters in all six teams, and I have to say Lee Da-In is probably the weakest out all them. However to be fair, she hasn't had much game time over the past two seasons (in total - 3 league games and 4 KOVO cup games) compare to the other backup setters in the other teams.

I don't know much about Hyundai new setter Kim Hyun-Ji from Jecheon G.H.S..

Also, I'm surprised that Hyundai didn't recruit more players in this year draft. They could use with another OH and another libero.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

  • Gwangju Four Teams Exhibition Matches

    Schedule:

    Friday (Sept. 6)

IBK vs. Korea Expressway (16:00 KST)

Hyundai E&C vs KGC (18:00 KST)

    Saturday (Sept. 7)

    KGC vs IBK (14:00 KST)

Korea Expressway vs Hyundai E&C (16:00 KST)

    Sunday (Sept. 8)

Hyundai E&C vs. IBK (14:00 KST)

Korea Expressway vs KGC (16:00 KST)

Four of the women's teams (Korea Expressway, KGC, IBK and Hyundai E&C) have decided to hold a 4 teams exhibition matches in Gwangju on September 6-8th. The reason as to why the four teams are holding this event is all due to the recent political tension between Japan and Korea. As a result of this and current public sentiment, the majority of the sporting teams have abandoned their plans to have training camps/friendly matches in Japan. The teams were worried about public backlash if they went ahead with their original plans. To replace their cancelled training camps and friendly matches, the four women teams decided to organised this event.

At one stage of the discussion, there was talk that all six women teams would take part in this event. But due to constraints with the renting the gymnasium and the scheduling for all six teams, it was decided that only the original four teams would participate in this event.

  • Thank you for the welcome.

Yeah, I think setter is a position that need lots of game time to become a better player

Isn't Dayeong will get her FA status after next season?

I'm kinda new to v-league so I don't know much about their rules and all

I guess Hyundai will persuade her to stay. I don't think the new setter will be ready

Unless they get experience setter from other team.

OH is always a problem for Hyundai. I noticed they mainly use MB and OPP for points

  • Sadly no broadcast and no stream. ;(

OH Baek Mok-Hwa was playing as a receiving Libero and was alternating with Park Sang-Mi. Apparently this was the suggestion of the new IBK coach. Also, it seem like Kim Ju-Hyang (formerly Hyundai E&C) and Moon Ji-Yun (mini Kim Hee-Jin) are playing well for IBK.

Hi-pass best player was OH Yoo Seo-Yeun, scoring 16 points and was second highest on the team behind Atkinson with 17 points.

  • Yeah, Da-Yeong will have FA status at the end of this upcoming season, same with Jae-yeong. Actually, a lot of players will have FA status, including Kim Hee-Jin and Park Jeong-Ah. I think Hyundai will do all it can to hold onto Da-Yeong.

Btw, I have seen comments/rumours on Korean forum saying that Lee Jae-Yeong will join Da-Yeong at Hyundai after the 2019/20 season. But, I think Heungkuk will not let Jae-Yeong go so easily. Jae-Yeong will be earning 320M KRW for this upcoming season, making her the 3rd highest earner in the league behind Yang Hyo-Jin and Park Jeong-Ah. It will be hard for Hyundai to fit Jae-Yeong in the team due to the team salary cap.

Top 10 Female Player Earner for 2019/2020

    1. Yang Hyo-Jin - 350M KRW

    1. Park Jeong-Ah - 350M KRW

    3. Lee Jae-Yeong - 320M KRW

    4. Kim Hee-Jin - 300M KRW

    5. Kim Su-Ji - 270M KRW

    6. Lee So-Young - 220M KRW

    7. Kim Hae-Ran - 200M KRW

    7. Han Soo-Ji - 200M KRW

    9. YimMyung-Ok - 180M KRW

    9. Lee Da-Yeong - 180M KRW

Diouf and Maya both only played the first two sets. Diouf scored 13 points, 11 from 24 spikes and 2 blocks.'

Last season rookie of the year, Jeong Ji-Yun continued to play well by scoring 17 points (incl. 4 aces and 2 blocks). Hyundai coach Lee D-Hee might move her to wings during the season.

From comments on DC inside, Go Ye-Rim played well but Hwang Min-Kyung was shaking early on in the game.

  • News Update:

    • 2019 Suncheon · MG Saemaeul Geumgo Professional Volleyball Tournament (2019 KOVO Cup) will start on September 21st (Sat) and end on September 28th (Sat) at Suncheon Palma Gymnasium. You can find the full match schedule for this year KOVO Cup (KC) on page 1, post# 9.

Like last year, eight teams will contest the tournament this year too. The two guest teams are Suwon City Hall (수원시청) and Yang San City Hall (양산시청), both teams are non-professional women teams that play in competitions run by KCVF (sorry, I haven't found the roster for the two non-pro teams yet).

The foreign players can play in the KC if they have been issued an international transfer agreement (ITC) and have been registered with the federation.

The recently drafted rookies will not be playing in the KC as they don't officially join the team until October 15th. The Korean NT members will also be absent for the KC too because of the World Cup.

Not sure about this last part with regards to the video challenge system at the KC. I think each team will have one additional video challenge per set if the result of the video challenge is inconclusive. Also, the spectators can now see what the video referee is seeing as they review the challenge rather than just the final result.

    • KGC, IBK and Korea Expressway Hi-pass have all unveil new uniform recently.

The design for KGC new uniform was the winner of a competition held by the team in July.

      Source: 1

IBK new uniform is an all blue jersey and black short.

Korea Expressway Hi-pass have a new emblem and uniform (no sure what colour the uniform is as I have seen different shades).

    • On 6th September, KOVO posted on their website that OH Gong Yun-Hui has left Heungkuk as a deregistered player. This is surprising because Gong Yun-Hui had only agreed to a new FA contract with Heungkuk in April. From the articles, it seems like Heungkuk was trying to persuade her to stay but she still wanted to leave and think about her future outside of volleyball.

I think deregistered/delisted means that the player must return to the team they had left if they decide to return to volleyball.

  • Looking forward to how Jung Ho Young evolves. If she wants to become the next Kim Yeon Koung, that's a lot of pressure!

    Yes, a lot of pressure.

At the moment, her reception/receiving is a real concern for me and her movement sometime feels a bit slow.

I really don't want to see her get change to middle blocker, it would be such a waste.

She's still young, 18yo. What's more important is how the Korean coaches raise her. I really think they need to rethink the strategy. It's not just about power. Korean team, overall, need better speed and defense.

  • News Update:

    • First up, Breaking News...

Heungkuk Pink Spider have replaced Italian OH Giula Pascucci with Argentine/Argentinian OP Lucia Fresco.

The change of foreign player by Heungkuk happen more quickly than I had anticipated. I only saw an article just yesterday about Heungkuk not registering Pascucci to play for KOVO Cup. Later that same day, other articles came out, reporting that Heungkuk were in the process of cancelling Pascucci contract and naming Fresco as a likely replacement.

So the announcement of the Fresco replacing Pascucci by Heungkuk the following day (today) took me by surprise. From the various articles (links below), Heungkuk official stated that Pascucci complained about breathing difficult (sudden shortness of breath) and anxiety during training. It seems like Heungkuk and Pascucci mutually agreed to terminated her contract. The Heungkuk Life officials were also quoted saying “It is a difficult decision made in a situation that requires change. Fresco plans to come in after the 2019 FIVB World Cup in Japan. ”

So Heungkuk will be the only team without a foreign play at this year KOVO Cup which starts tomorrow.

Btw, I have added a link for a replay of this year rookie draft on the previous page in my post for the rookie draft result. There shouldn't be any problem viewing the video as I was able to watch it without a VPN.

And I'm still looking for up-to-date roster for Suwon City Hall and Yang-San City Hall team.

  • KOVO Cup which starts tomorrow

8| wow, too much good volleyball happening right now

  • 8| wow, too much good volleyball happening right now

    Yeap. :dance6:

KOVO Cup starting in about an hour time, the women's competition will run for 8 days (schedule). The usual channels (SBS Sports and KBSN Sports) will broadcast the matches live and will replays the matches a few time. Korean portal site Naver will also stream the matches and I'm pretty sure they will have the replays for all the matches but you may need VPN. So you can watch the other volleyball competitions first and then come watch this when you have time.

Are you going to post links and scores and whatnot? You can’t just turn me loose :rolll:

  • First set ended. KGC got thrashed by Heungkuk 13-25. Diouf did not score a single point. This might have been partly due to the set she got from No. 18 Lee Sol-Ah. Setter change for the second set, with No. 2 Ha Hyo-rim starting.

Wikipedia has Diouf at 202cm. She doesn't look that tall
