    • KGC Choi Eun-Ji becomes the 43rd player to achieve 500 accurate receptions with 11 from the match (now on 508).

    Current Team Standings:

  • Sorry for the late reply guys.

Yeah I didn't think it would be a straight sets victory for either team. Heungkuk did poorly in receptions, with Kim Hae-Ran having the highest efficiency in the team at 28.57% and everyone else were 20% and below. Look like GS blocking has improved with the addition of Han Soo-Ji however the attacks from the middle blockers are still very lacking.

Watched the first two matches and gotta admit I enjoyed the Pink Spiders v Hi-Pass more than KGC. On the one side I could watch Moon Jung-Won serve all night, and Park Jeong-Ah be Park Jeong-Ah. On the other side I forgive Lee JY for being popular. She's reaching a Gabi/Britt Herbots level that's hard not to admire.

I think reason she get so many aces is down to the spins that Moon Jung-Won puts into the ball when she tossing it to serves... and plus that long run up. Massive performance from Lee Jae-Yeong in the first match, 30+ points from a four sets match. Jae-Yeong had a 58.49% (31/53) spiking success rate and her efficiency was 54.72% (1 hitting error and 1 blocked spike) :super:.

kgc vs heungkuk match.. wow big upset

havent watched the first 2 1/2 sets but miyeon seemed to be choking. even songhwa was subbed out for a bit

Heungkuk did better than KGC in every departments except for digs. Heungkuk basically gave away that match with 36 errors. 24 of them coming from spiking errors, that's 2/3 of the 36 errors they committed :aww:.

For unexplainable reason I find Altos not interesting team to watch, even when they won league..I only interested to watch Kim Su Ji n Kim Hee Jin due their performance in NT...

I find Pyo Seung Ju just so-so from watching her previous seasons... She's bad in this game (according the match stats, haven't watch the replay)....I'm surprised she was in Lavarini's NT, while previous NT coaches seems not interested in her....

    Current Team Standings:

  • Watching the KIXX v IBK match. It's comedy. HAN Soo-ji and the goofballs. Their import is a goofball who looks like she wouldn't have the stamina for a 5 set match, but she's more entertainment value than last year. She hits it out of bounds a lot and does the "my bad" thing. There's one player, I think, who was on KIXX last year, now IBK. She's pretty good but IBK is a better fit for her.

Kang So-hwi, the ace machine :rose:

Who's going to beat this team?

I had a feeling IBK might struggles again this season but I thought they would be more competitive than this. You would think IBK would do well with 4 NT players in their starting line-up. To be fair to IBK, last season champion Heungkuk was also defeated by GS Caltex 3-0.

For me, Pyo Seung-Ju is a little bit better than so-so, above average I would say. She did have a poor game against GS but she was pretty decent in their other two matches so far. She made it into NT for the VNL because Lee Jae-Yeong, Lee So-Young, and Park Jeong-Ah were all out due to injuries. Seung-Ju wasn't the only one, Kim Hee-Jin played just as poorly in the match against GS.

We are two-thirds of the way in Round 1 and it looks like GS Caltex is the team to beat. GS is ranked 1st in spikes, 1st in serves, 1st in blocks, 2nd in errors, and 3rd in receives. Individually, Kang So-Hwi and Lutz are 1st and 2nd respectively in spikes, So-Hwi is also 1st in serve, and Han Soo-Ji is 1st in blocks.

It is funny how sitenoise rates Pyo Seung-Ju (formerly GS and now at IBK) and ian3373 think she is so-so.

The three new foreign players have a quiz on the V-League. (This was recorded on Media Day).

Q1. Write your registered name in Korean. Lutz = 러츠, Lucia = 루시아, Diouf = 디우프

Q2. Name the female team in the V-League with the most regular league title and how many have they won. Ans: Heungkuk - 05/06, 06/07, 07/08, 16/17, and 18/19.

Q3. Which of these location does not have a women's V-League team based there? (1) Suwon, (2) Gimcheon, (3) Suncheon, and (4) Hwaseong.

Hyundai E&C is based in Suwon, Expressway Hi-pass is based in Gimcheon, and IBK Altos is based in Hwaseong.

Q4. What is your team's mascot name? Heungkuk is 핑키 (Pinky), KGC is 홍이장군 (Hong-i Jang-gun = General Hong-ie ???), and GS Caltex is

    킥시 and 킥순니 (Kixx-sie ?? and Kixx-sunny??).

Q5. Name the following person. Ans: Hyundai E&C #13 Jeong Ji-Yun (18/19 Best Rookie).

  • Pyo Seung-Ju (formerly GS and now at IBK)

Yeah, that's who it is. I remember her name now.

Who's the Captain of GS? Or do they not do the Captain thing in Korea? So-Young Lee has a Captain-y air about her and seems like the go-to swinger (seems like she gets more swings than Kang So-hwi) but Kang So-hwi seems more reliable to me. More importantly Kang gets an occasional kill that's worth more than a point.

Yes they do have captains in Korea.

    Heungkuk - #14 Cho Song-Hwa [S]

    Expressway - #13 Jung Dae-Young [MB]

    GS Caltex - #16 Kim Yu-Ri [MB].

    IBK Altos - #19 Pyo Seung-Ju [OH]

    Hyundai - #15 Hwang Min-Kyoung [OH]

    KGC - #12 Han Song-Yi [MB]

Last season, Lee So-Young was the primary points scorer for GS. When So-Young was sidelined for the majority of the 17/18 season due to injury, Kang So-Hwi was the go-to-player for GS. So-Hwi ranked 6th for point scorer that season, 2nd for a Korean player behind only Lee Jae-Yeong. This season so far, So-Hwi is doing better in attack, whilst So-Young is doing better in defence.

Did you see the kill So-Young made against Heungkuk in the 2nd set with the score at 3-2? Wow

Personally, I like both players. Both of them are good all-round players and both are very exciting to watch. So-Hwi is the more aggressive and exciting player of the two. On the other hand, So-Young is the more calmer and control (acting all cool) player. IMHO, they are the best Korean OH/s pairing in the league.

Which team do you guys think has the best Korean OH/s pairing?

  • Did you see the kill So-Young made against Heungkuk in the 2nd set with the score at 3-2? Wow

Yes. I noticed it because it was from the right side. LJY kinda gave it right back, then Kang ... good little run there. I will watch the match again.

  • Which team do you guys think has the best Korean OH/s pairing?

I agree with you. Lee So-Young and Kang So-Hwi is the best Korean OH pair this season so far...

Only 2 team that can be close to GS pair: Hillstate, with Go Ye-Rim n Hwang Min-Kyoung... . And KGC with Choi Eun-Ji and Chae Son-Ah....

Pink Spiders only have LJY takes all the points, her pair don't get points (Who's her pair? :D)..

    Hi-Pass: PJA with the foreigner...

    IBK: Pyo Seung-Ju with foreigner.

    Match Stats Summary:

    MVP:

    Current Team Standings:

  • I just watched replay of Hillstate v Hi-Pass.. It's almost one-sided match... Hi-Pass looks weak, despite have PJA (who was not having a good day) ....

It's first time I see an MB the top scorer on a match anywhere.... also it's kind of odd the libero is the MVP of the match....

Anyway, I hope Hillstate can keep improving their performance...

on GS win: watching Lutz , I remember watching Polina Rohimova when she was in Hillstate.. Both are 2+ meter tall.. Lutz can be like Polina: high power spiking and nobody can block her....

  • I have to say 1st round of new season is really unpredictable

nobody thought GS would be this dominant

everyone predicted heungkuk gonna be the team to beat before the season started

hillstate always use MB to get points in match and since local players aren't that tall, it's possible to do that

    they rarely use pipe too

plus they have several good MBs who can attack

    anyway, it's still early

anything can happen especially after olympic qualifying round

most top players of each team will be playing and it might affect clubs' performances, trying to adjust once again to different style of playing

  • I should have said Korean wing spiker pairing (excluding the foreign players).

Heungkuk is Lee Jae-Yeong and Kim Mi-Youn. Expressway is Park Jeong-Ah and Moon Jung-Won.

Not sure who I should pick as Pyo Seung-Ju partner at IBK. Kim Hee-Jin does the attacking from the right side and Kim Ju-Hyang move to the middle but sometime attempts to do the receiving and hit from the left. I will go with Ju-Hyang this time as she does receiving.

    My ranking

    1. GS Caltex Kang So-Hwi and Lee So-Young

    2. Heungkuk Lee Jae-Yeong and Kim Mi-Youn

    3. Expressway Park Jeong-Ah and Moon Jung-Won

    4. Hyundai Go Ye-Rim and Hwang Min Kyoung

    5. IBK pairing of Pyo Seung-Ju and Kim Ju-Hyang = KGC Choi Eun-Ji and Chae Seon-Ah

Hyundai E&C MB Yang Hyo-Jin have been top scorer for her team many times before. This is one of the reason she get the biggest paycheck in the league. Hyo-Jin is 2nd overall for career points (regular season) in the V-League with 5,168 points behind Hwang Youn-Joo. I think the highest she has scored in a league match is in the 40 points in 12/13 season against Expressway (YHJ highlights and stats).

Yeah, I was surprised Hyundai libero Kim Yeon-Gyeon was named the match MVP. She had a poor game, particularly in reception. MVP should have went to either Hyo-Jin, Milagros Collar (Maya), or Go Ye-Rim.

Yes, the V-League has been rather unpredictable.

I did think GS would do well this season, they have good OHs and a decent pair of setters. GS problem for the past few seasons have been the middle. With the addition of Han Soo-Ji, defensively GS is much better but offensively it is still sub-par.

Yes, at media day everyone picked Heungkuk as the team to beat. From last season squad, they have the least changes to their team (not counting the new rookies). Heungkuk form so far has been very erratic. One match they are good and the next they are bad.

Last season, Hyundai depended on their middle blockers and Maya to get the points. Hyundai E&C do use backcourt attacks but not down the middle, Collar comes through on the right-hand side. Yes, because they have good attacking MBs, Hyundai doesn't have to rely on the backcourt spikes as much.

I totally agreed with you, it is still too early in the season. Look at what happen to KGC last season, they were doing okay until they lost Alena Bergsma to injury.

Thx for the info.... turn out I had watched that highlight (even saved it in my YT playlist).. I forgot about it...:)

I'm a big fan of the Lee twins .. I like Lee Da Young style of play... I think among setters so far she got the most points.. Her blocking is very good for a setter and she spikes too a couple of times (She was played as OP subbing Hwang Yoon Joo a couple of times few seasons ago)....

While other setters got rotated in a match, she play full time all the time even when she got minor injury like last match vs Hi-Pass... I don't know it's a good thing or not for Hillstate. Definitely bad for the reserve setter..

With Maya as OP, Hwang Yoon Joo hasn't played a minute.... Is there news about her? Maybe she's considering retired in the end of the season? or change club? She's one of my fave player...It's sad to see her in the bench most of the time since Maya came....

    Current Team Standings:

    Upcoming Schedule:

  • I have always said she was Korea best blocking setter, she is even better than some of the other middle blockers in the other teams at blocking. What a performance from Lee Da-Yeong in yesterday match :super:. First female setter to reach double-digit points in a single match in the Korean league. Apparently, Yang Hyo-Jin commented after the match that it like having six attackers on the court with Da-Yeong around.

Hyundai should have taken Da-Yeong off for a while to give her some more for treatment. Particularly when she gets rotate to the back, it would have been a good time to make a sub. Yeah, not good news for the two reserve setters.

Sorry no individual news about Hwang Youn-Joo. She has only made one appearance in the league this season so far. She came on in the first set in the match against Heungkuk. Youn-Joo did also play in all of the KOVO Cup matches except for the final. Against Yang-San City Hall, she scored 20 points and was named the MVP. Before recruiting Maya last season, Hyundai did try to have Youn-Joo take on the receiving but it just didn't work out. At that time, Youn-Joo was also struggling to score points.

I don't know if she will retired or not but she did agreed to a new terms with Hyundai at the end of the Free Agents period earlier this year.
