South Korea - Women's V-League 2019-2020

  • News Update:

    • So the Lee twins will now be playing together at Heungkuk Pink Spiders.

According to reports, Lee Jae-Yeong contract is for 600M KRW (salary of 400M KRW and option of 200M KRW) and Lee Da-Yeong (LDY) contract is 400M KRW (salary of 300M KRW + option of 100M KRW). Sources: 1, 2, 3

    Other FA news:

As a result of LDY moved to Heungkuk, reports are saying Cho Song-Hwa has agreed to join IBK Altos, contract amount is unknown at this time.

However there may be bad news for IBK too. There is a possibility that IBK may lose Kim Hee-Jin (this is kind of surprising). Apparently she has received a number of offers and is struggling to decide which offer to accept.

Other news coming out today is that Park Jeong-Ah will be staying with Expressway Hi-pass. It was also hinted that both Moon Jung-Won and Jeon Sae-Yeon are going to stay with Expressway too.

  • I still can't grasp the fact that Lee Dayeong actually moved to Heungkuk lol.

I thought another 3 years with Hyundai, then trying to go abroad.

Well, it's good for NT then, the fact that twins gonna play together.

Yeum Hyeseon did really well last season with KGC though I doubt they gonna let her go easily.

I think making Dayeong playing full time all the time kinda backfired on Hyundai when situation like this happened.

Setter is a position that hugely depends on experience, so more playing time is crucial.

I wish Kim Heejin can find a team that allow her to play as OP. But koreans tend to hire foreign OP, so it's difficult.

With foreigners height, maybe they should try hiring foreign MB for a change.

  • wow.. that happened... Lee twins in the same club...

Is it possible Pink Spiders also hired Kim HJ as OP? Then hired foreigner OH tandem with Lee JY...

They still have libero problem post Kim HR..

Now I change club fave to Pink Spider.. 😁

Though Yang HJ still one of my fave player....😎

  • Now I change club fave to Pink Spider.. 😁

    Well..I'm in dilemma too lol

I was rooting for Hyundai since 2017/18 season

but my fav player is Lee Dayeong

So which team should I support now...

Anyway, since Heungkuk is not center-oriented team like Hyundai, I wonder how LDY gonna change her game play.

She played different game in NT too so I guess it isn't problem for her.

But still...I will miss Hyundai's Lee Dayeong ;(

  • tiffany root for Hyundai to beat everyone but Heungkuk, and Heungkuk to beat everyone but Hyundai. Then when they play each other you’ll discover which team you really love some time around the third set.

lmao does this work for you?

if Heungkuk vs Hyundai, ofc I'm gonna root for Heungkuk just because Lee Dayeong in it, not because I like the team lol

this is what happened when you like the player 1st, the team 2nd

I can only blame myself now :(

  • lmao does this work for you?

I juggle five teams that way for Japan V.League :)

It's how my transition from KGC to KIXX went, I think. It was hard to say goodbye, but I had to :(

  • News Update:

    • Today IBK Altos officially announced the recruitment of setter Cho Song-Hwa from Heungkuk. IBK also confirmed the successful contract renewal of Kim Hee-Jin and Kim Su-Ji. Sources: 1, 2, 3
    • Despite losing Lee Da-Yeong to Heungkuk, Hyundai E&C have today confirmed they have successfully re-signed outside hitter Hwang Min-Kyoung and libero Kim Yeon-Gyeon. Sources: 1, 2, 3

    Other FA news:

There was an article that I missed the other day in between the numerous articles about the Lee twins. This article reported that according to numerous officials, libero Oh Ji-Young have re-signed with KGC with a new contract surpassing that of Kim Hae-Ran contract of 200M KRW with Heungkuk. Source: 1

  • Not bad for Altos . They keep Kim HJ n Kim SJ... they also got Cho SH.. Lee Na Youn will be backup setter... I wonder if she's gonna retire after a couple of seasons...

So now KGC I'm guessing is still negotiating to keep Yeum HS and Han SY.. If they can't retain them, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be harder for them in the league... I'm not surprised they pay Oh JY so high.. She's currently the #1 libero in SK after Kim HR retirement... Good for her...

Hillstate I think will try to get Yeum HS hard... they need experience setter... They can promote Kim Da In as main setter, then looking for rookie setter..

  • Other FA news:

It hasn't been officially announced yet but in an article it was briefly mentioned that both Yeum Hye_Seon and Han Song-Yi will also be staying with KGC. Source: 1

    This only leave GS Caltex Moon Myoung-Hwa [MB] - A, KGC Chae Seon-Ah [OH] - B, Hi-pass Lee Hyo-Hee [S] - B, and Jung Dae-Young [MB] - B.

Personally, I would like to see Hyundai allow Kim Da-In (KDI) to play as the main setter and develop further. KDI did well in Hyundai's KOVO Cup win last year. Who better to help KDI grow than Hyundai's head coach who is a former setter herself. If Hyundai want some insurance then they can go after Lee Hyo-Hee (LHH). Plus LHH would be cheaper and won't cost them a player. if Hyundai don't spend money this year on external FA players then they may save some space in their salary cap to go after one of the big fish next year (e.g. Lee So-Young or Kang So-Hwi).

I thought Lee HH is retiring in the end of this season... I guess she's gonna play 1-2 more season ...

If Yeum HS stay.at KGC, then Lee HH is reasonable and logical choice.for Hillstate.. As the most senior and experienced setter now in the league, she can help in developing Kim DI as the.main setter...

  • News Update:

    • A report came out today stating that Thailand NT player Ajcharaporn Kongyot has applied for the Korean V-League tryout. It is feared that Ajcharaporn's height may hold her back in the evaluation as most V-League teams prefer tall foreign players. Applicants must make it into the list of 40 tryout invitees and as of yesterday (Apr. 17), there was a total of 50 applicants. Ajcharaporn's agency commented that currently there is no Asian player quota in the Korean V-League but despite this, Ajcharaporn has submitted an application to show that Asian players are competitive enough. Ajcharaporn previously mentioned that she would like to play on the same team as Lee Jae-Yeong. Source: 1

Oh btw, I forgot to mentioned previously that they announced some time ago that the Korea vs Thailand Super Match was cancelled for this year.

  • wow Ajcharaporn apply for v-league. that's interesting

KOVO discussed about asian quota before right?

I think most prefer to expand no of team before introducing asian quota

Even local backups sometimes rarely get playing time

tbh, hiring foreign players is a gamble game

nobody knows how good they are until the season actually started.

  • I agree with this and i don't actually totally agyree with the tryout. You can't Evaluate players potential in actual match with only 3,4 or 5 days of tryout. Why not base it on the team's evaluation 1st, assess based on your current local lineup and analyse what position do you need to fill up and start looking for foreign players who can fit for that position. Just like any other league.

Also, i saw a comment from kovo fan that bringing an asian players in the league will make it more interesting and exciting and i somehow agree with this. If kovo wants to encourage other organisations to join the league and increase number of participants then they need this league to step up just like japan league is doing. They are bringing asean players so that the league or the club will have more supporters, increase the number of ticket sales and make it more competitive.

If ajcharaporn will make it? Bet me thai will do everything to supoort the team, watch the matches, create news about the team, make some noises and access to do live stream which increase number of sales for television and live streams.

Just like what philippine fans supporting their players in japan league.

  • Have you noticed? Many times club teams replacing their foreign players not only because of injury. But most of them, they are not satisfied with the performance. Their tryout was a waste of time, money if in the 1st or middle of the season they will be replace because they are not performing.

  • News Update:

    • KGC have official announced today that they have retained all 4 of their FA players - Han Song-Yi, Oh Ji-Young, Yeum Hye-Seon, and Chae Seon-Ah.

      Oh Ji-Young signed a 3-year contract for 260M KRW (250M KRW annual salary + 10M KRW option), a record amount for a libero. Yeum Hye-Seon signed a 3-year contract for 250M KRW (230M KRW annual salary + 20M KRW option). Han Song-Yi signed a 2-year contract for 220M KRW (200M KRW annual salary + 20M KRW option), and Chae Seon-Ah for 70M KRW (50M KRW annual salary + 20M KRW option). Sources: 1, 2, 3
    • Congratulations to Hyundai E&C OP Hwang Youn-Joo. Youn-Joo will be getting married next month to Park Kyung-Sang (29 y.o), a basketball player for Korean basketball team Hyundai Mobis Phoebus. Former teammates Kim Se-Young, Yeum Hye-Seon, and Kim Ju-Ha took part in the commemorative wedding photos. The wedding ceremony will be held on afternoon of May 16 at newly opened Eliena Hotel in Seoul. Sources: 1, 2, 3
  • Wow Hwang Younjoo is getting married. Congrats!

One of may fav players and one of the best OP Korea ever produced in my opinion.

Her ball placement hitting right at the corner and near the sideline is exquisite.

It's sad to think Korea still haven't done anything solid to nurture future OP for NT.

The current OP in NT atm aren't even playing as OP in their respective clubs, so how they're going to improve and become better...

They really need to do something about it if Korea still want to be competitive post KYK era
