South Korea - Women's V-League 2019-2020

  • The Lee twin get at total of 1B KRW - Lee Jae-Yeong's contract 600M KRW (salary of 400M KRW + option of 200M KRW) and Lee Da-Yeong's contract is 400M KRW (salary of 300M KRW + option of 100M KRW). If KYK was to get the max possible with Heungkuk then it would be 650M KRW (salary of 450M KRW + option of 200M KRW) then the remain players have to share 650M KRW in salary only. That is what worrying for the other players in Heungkuk and Kim.

I'm not sure if the foreign salary is include for the 2020/2021 season but for last season it was include in the 1.4B KRW salary cap. Last season new player got 150K USD and re-signed player got 200K USD. I have got source at the moment but from what I remember reading about is that he salary for the women foreign players this season has increased and I think the teams this season will pick up the tax bill too. Here the stream for the draft again.

  • KYK need a club to maintain her availability for OG. I'm guessing she's gonna retire after OG. She picks Pink Spider I assume for sentimental reason, since it's her first pro club...

Salary is a big problem. I wonder if she doesn't care to be paid lower as long as she can play in that club for her last pro life...

    Lucia back to Pink Spider...

3 other foreigners I don't recognize the names, but I hope they can perform very well.

  • Just based on the short clip shared above, my ranking of foreigner is

    1. Anna Lazareva

    2. Valentina Diouf

    3. Merete Lutz

    4. Helene Rousseaux

    5. Lucia Fresco

    6. Kelsie Payne

Of course it's all depends if they can match well with the setter gameplay and adept to asian style volleyball with high quality defense. And their attitude too.

Isn't because she didn't get FA status when she was in Heungkuk long time ago because she wanted to go abroad? So at that time KOVO decided if she wants to return to korean league, she needs to play 2 more seasons in Heungkuk.

Watching some of Ecz games last season, I think she still can compete with lots of European players on high level even when she's already past her prime. So, I don't think the problem is she's not getting offer from european leagues. I think the uncertainty of overseas league because of covid19 plays a huge factor.

No, from what I gathered KYK is forced to and Heungkuk is really her only option. Heungkuk classified her as arbitrary/voluntary withdrawal when she left so they pretty much still own her in Korea. KYK only play four seasons with Heungkuk before leaving so she still has two years left before she qualified for Free Agent status. One option mention for her is for Heungkuk to trade her to another team but this is unlikely. Overall, Heungkuk has the upper hand if Kim wants to play in Korea this upcoming season.

Heungkuk got the short end of the stick in the draw so in the end they when with the player they know. Hence you can see them re-signing her at the draft out of the three players who had their contract renewed.

With IBK picking Anna Lazareva, it looks like Kim Hee-Jin will be playing MB next season.

Hyundai will most likely use Helene Rousseaux as a non-receiving OH but with her in their team, this allows them more versatility. Like if her Hwang Min-Kyoung or Go Ye-Rim having a shocker, then Helene can take on the receiving duty. They also have the option to move Jeong Ji-Yun to the wing and bring on Lee Da-Heon as a middle blocker or playing Hwang Youn-Joo on right.

Kelsie Payne resembles Sherridan Atkinson when I saw her appear in the video call.

No room for Ajcharaporn. I wonder how Thai fan feels about this.

I'm pretty sure some of them are disappointed, but understood that her chances were already slim from the get go due to lack of height. Though skills can rival some of the taller ones and better than others. If she still wants a challenge next season, JVL is another option and with the ASEAN quota implemented 2 seasons ago, it'll be easier to get in for a team that might be looking for an ASEAN player to fill in the gap.

    Toyota needs her right now!

  • KYK almost retired because they (Spiders) would not let her continue to play overseas. Playing in Turkey in one of the best leagues in the world and helping the National team by doing it.

Now she’s looking to come home and the Spiders must have kept her domestic rights to negotiate.

  • Ic... thanks for the info.... i hope it's going well for KYK.

So Hillstate add.another OH. Is that too many OH now there? Hwang YJ is the only OP.. I don't know if it's good for Hillstate. I guess they still depend very much on Yang HJ for scoring....

It's too bad if Kim HJ still have double duty as OP and MB . I was hoping she can fully play as OP only.

  • If the translation is right, she's gonna be paid 350 M won... that's almost half Lee JY salary.. I see that as sign that she really doesn't have other option, so she has to compromise with Pink Spider...

Pink Spider is gonna have good receiving if Lee JY n KYK both play well.. Added Lee DY, they are have to be good in blocking and overall defense...

  • That's really a HUGE Salary cut. That's like only 1/4 of her previous earning.

That can't be helped since the club already spent 1 billion out of total 2.3 billion won salary cap for the twins. It'd be harder for other Heungkuk players (more than 10) if KYK earn more. If the negotiation happened before FA transfer, it might be different story.

If I'm not mistaken, she had an offer from a Chinese club based in Beijing too. Not sure why she rejected it. Corona maybe.

Twins and KYK playing together a lot in NT so I think they pretty much already know each other's style.

The problem for Heungkuk imo is the center especially Lee Juah. From what I saw in Olympic qualifying match, she didn't match well with LDY. If they can fix that, it'd be good for both the club and NT.

From the same article it's wrote that in Ecz she was paid 2 B won.. so it's even lower than 1/4, almost 1/6...

Yes... Lee JA is a little problem... she has to work hard to sync with Lee DY fast toss...

Although she's a "senior", Kim Se Young is gonna play longer imo. She used to be with Lee DY in Hillstate, and had a good rapport in working together...

  • Is Kim Ki-Joong coach of Pink Spiders? Last and next season?

The head coach is Park Mi Hee. I think she's Pink Spiders head coach since 2014/2015 season.

If I'm not mistaken she just extended her contract for 2 more years.

Yep Kim Seyoung is still a good player even as senior. In fact, she actually was selected by Lavarini to join NT for VNL 2019, but refused it to give chance to young players.

  • I just found out about this Board yesterday and I am so glad that there's a well-structured and well-written thread about the K V-League, so much of that stuff I read was auto-translated content from Korean sources but I somehow managed to find out a lot about it on my own ;D

Well, now I can just bookmark this thread to get all my info instead of copy-pasting Korean phrases into papago and wondering wth is going on

  • Hey guys, it has been a while but I just want to let everyone know that I currently working on the thread for the new season. Hopefully I will have it up soon with updated roster for each team. No schedule with match fixture yet for the new season yet but dates was given for the women's 2020 kovo cup tournament.

Is Kim Ki-Joong coach of Pink Spiders? Last and next season?

He is in the coaching staff for the 2019-2020 season, not sure for next season but he is still currently listed on Pink Spiders coaching staff (second on the list, just below Park Mi-Hee).

Welcome, Glad to see a new face. I'm guessing you're a fan of Lee Da-Yeong based on your username. :drink:

 That is how i started too with auto translator because when I joined the forum there was barely any update of the Korean league.
