2019 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship (August 18–25, Seoul)

  • The 2019 Women's Volleyball Asian Championship will start on August 17. The Chinese women's volleyball team has not yet revealed the list of 14 players in the Asian Championships, officially. Lang Ping continues to lead the team in Beijing. For the Chinese team, they also have a more important task, that is, the FIVB Women's Volleyball World Cup held in Japan in September. In the last Asian Championship two years ago hosted by PHI, the Chinese team strategically abandoned it due to the schedule conflict with the National Games. In the end, only the 4th place was won (JPN won Gold; THA the Silver and KOR #3). Now in 2019, South Korea holds the first women's volleyball Asian Championship. They will try hard to win the championship for the very first time. Throughout the 19 times the events were held, the Chinese team won 13 championships, the Japanese team won 4 times, and the Thai team won twice.

The South Korean women's volleyball team is going out this time to win the Asian championship after the failure in the Olympic qualifying competition. They are trying to win the Asian Championship at home to earn the prestige for the team. Of course, they are also trying to boost morale, because there is only one ticket left for the Tokyo Olympic Games in the Asian Confederation, and the South Korean team hopes to be on their own. They wish to join China and Japan in the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The South Korean team has its strongest line-up in the Asian Championship, we can see their big desire for winning the trophy here. The KOR team also knows that its greatest opponents in Asian championship are China, Thailand and Japan. Japanese team will not spend too much effort in Asian Championship because they are preparing for the World Cup. The Thai team is inferior to the host team, therefore the biggest obstacle for host in this championship is the Chinese team. They hope Lang Ping will give up the Asian Championship strategically again, so that they can have better chance to win the championship. But this time, the KOR's dream seems to be falling short, for the eventual line-up of the Chinese team is not a weak one.

Liu Yan-han did not make the Chinese roster list in the Olympic qualifying tournament, but she has always trained with the NT team. She watched the matches in the stadium during the IOQT women's volleyball matches in Ningbo. She also went back to Beijing to train after the NT squad returned to Beijing. Long ago, it was reported that Liu Yan-han, the main attacker of the Chinese VNL team, would compete in the Asian Championship. The reason why she didn't play in the Olympics qualifying tournament was to look at the Asian Championships. It's said that Lang Ping hoped that Liu Yan-han would once again win the prestige in the Asian volleyball. Liu Yan-han in the last Asian Cup was a great star in Asia.

“Thai team is inferior to the host team”

    Really??

The Thai team won over Korean team in Asian games, WCH, and VNL.

They’ve also won this Asian championship twice while the Korean hasn’t.

I don’t think they are “inferior”. The chance is 50-50 for both teams.

I do agree that the Chinese team is quite strong and can certainly upset the host’s hope to claim this title.

  • The South Korean team has its strongest line-up in the Asian Championship

I believe the writer jumped from "KYK is playing" to "South Korean team has its strongest line-up"

Korea has a good chance of winning the tournament -- I'm feeling sparks from them-- but they still have a few players out with injury or returning from recent injury

  • I don't know if anyone knows what squad, A–Z, the rest of the competition is going to send, but since I'm all on pins and needles about how the Japan Squad is going to do ...

Assuming everyone (besides the big 3 (KOR, THA, CHN) sends their A-Team, what do you suppose is the relative level they play at compared to the European U20s (RUS, TUR, POL, ITL) this Japan squad recently competed against?

  • Nothing against this lineup but does anyone know how long until we see Pimpichaya or Hattaya again?

    Sads Ajcharaporn won't play :(

  • btw unpopular opinion but I think North Korea can surprise us as well! :box: # dontjudge I was impressed watching them.

I like them too and they could Give some teams problems if they were playing ... hashtag oops :) :drink:

Wait XD I had another blonde moment...

Do you know if it is because they couldn't make this tournament or because they boycott Seoul?

I surely don’t know. I hear there is some tension between North and South Korea, but they did have a moment of bonding last Winter OG, didn’t they? They should build on that. It would be great to have NK in this tournament

  • Thank you for confirming, I lost track with all the rumors floating around.

Interesting selection of wing spikers. Liu Yanhan will surely be one of the starters, with the others probably switched around. I would like to see Wang Yizhu get some playing time.

  • A bit weaker than the previous one.

I see Liu Yan-han and Duan Fang as starter OH and maybe Du Qing-qing as opposite?
Or maybe Duan Fang can play opposite and Liu Yan-han and Zhang Yi-Chan as OH?
    What do you think?

  • Jin Ye already done and forgotten :( She won best OP last ACh

  • Good chance for South Korea to win first ACH. The best teams are not sending their A teams.

  • A bit weaker than the previous one.

Liu and Zhang are starters I think (Duan as a sub of Zhang), similar to the AVC cup last year, and the opp will be Jin Ye or Du qing-qing. Zheng will be the core player also and Gao and Yang will compete for a position. In fact, some players like Zhong Hui and Wang Yi-zhu will be hard on court.

  • A bit weaker than the previous one.

In fact, the previous one is totally fake news. China NT is divided into two parts these days, one is for AVC championship (14 players) and the other is for World Cup (13 players) .

    Sads Ajcharaporn won't play :(

According to the news circulating around here, Pimpichaya should be back in time for the Asian OQ in January. Hattaya, however, might need more time than that.

Ajcharaporn is also injured during the practice for intercontinental OQ. I don’t know why the younger players seem to be more fragile than the older ones 😔
