Vote for Best Players in 2019

  • Boskovic is universally liked :flower:

    I would put Zhu Ting as Best OH (duh!) and Best Player. She has evolve into more than just a killing machine. She receives better, she blocks better, and her floor defense are getting better and better. The second semi-final match she played in the Chinese Superleague she was all over the court covering and making crazy moves to keep the game in play. Cannot wait to see what the new year brings to the very-soon-to-be legendary player!

    Zhu's reception and defence are improving but still her serve is her weakest skill. Compared to all other star players like Boskovic, Egonu, KYK, Haak etc, Zhu has the worse serve

    Well she has all year to improve that aspect.

    Quick question tho -- is there any female volleyball player that has won all the MVP titles in both national and club level?

    If you mean those MVP titles they had the chance to win (as opposed to, say, getting a MVP award for a competition the player in question never participated in), Zhu probably comes closest, since on NT level, of the big tournaments, she only misses World Championship and WGP/VNL (and has Olympic Games, World Cup (x2) and Asian Championship). On club level, she practically has them all: CEV Champions League, Club World Championship (x2), Turkish League (x2) and Turkish Cup (only one really missing is Turkish Super Cup). In other words, only WCh and VNL are missing for her collection to be basically complete.

    Boskovic is probably 2nd best, since on NT level, she has World Championship and European Championship (x2) (misses Olympic Games, World Cup and WGP/VNL), while on club level, she has Club World Championship, CEV Cup and Turkish Super Cup while missing Champions League, Turkish League and Turkish Cup.

    Right now, that's quite a substantial lead Zhu has, but if Serbia can win Tokyo next year, and Vitra win, say, Turkish Cup (which is a difficult, but not exactly impossible scenario), then come autumn 2020, Boskovic will be just behind Zhu in personal achievements.

    Edit: I'm only speaking about active players.

  • Actually Boskovic won MVP awards on Turkish cup 2018/19 edition.

    In Turkey she misses "just Turkish league MVP award.

    Somehow, I completely forgot that.:aww: Oh well, then change Cup to League in that sentence.

  • Bruno->Yes

    Zhu->No

    Zhe hasn't won World Championship with NT.

    And WGP/VNL, like I said.

    How long has Boskovic been playing in Turkish league and with Vitra? Vitra has been competitive, very good and strong team ( a pioneering women volleyball in Turkey). One cannot totally compare Zhu and Boskovic achievements especially in club level ; have to consider the club and league. Their starting points were different. Zhu had been in a shitty club (the player in CVL does not have the final say as to where one can play unless the team release the player [it practically owns the player] and the CVL is not opened to open market as well as the existence of the league is not as old as the Turkish league. Boskovic has been in Turkish league longer and in strong club which is a championship contender.

    Since 2015, one year before Zhu came. And Zhu played in a better constructed, MUCH better lead team, with a bigger winning tradition in recent history. All in all, in Turkey, it is Zhu who had an advantage as far as winning trophies (and therefore personal accomplishments) go.

    Vitra has had stellar players as much as Vakif has had. In fact, I think Vitra had bigger stars (accomplished players) from 2016 to 2019 like Neslihan, Maja, Kosheleva, Larson and KYK (the latter two were MVP and captains (NT and club) aside from Boskovic. Vakif 2016 to 2019 had Naz, Hill, Rasic, Sloetjes and Robinson. So Boskovic is ahead of 2 years in Turkish leagues 2015/2016 and 2019/2020. There is no way to fairly compare these two great players.

    Well actually, since Cuban NT players domination in the 90's no (woman) player has won both the Olympics and WCh. The players who can be the first one to do that in this century, in Tokyo, can be some of the Usa, Rus and Ser NT players. If Piccinini comes back for Oi and Italy wins it, she would be the first and only player to do it. It's pretty fun how WCh and Olympics had different NTs as winners for the past 20 years.

    Number of stars players in Vakif and Eczacibasi is arguable and that is not basic diference between Ecz and Vakif in previous years. IMO that was better local player stronger MB and BETTER coach and team chemistry. Results of Vakif and Eczacibasi are not way of compare Zhu and Boskovic as player. One more important thing you mentioned before is that their starting point were diferent, but you obviously dont know from where Boskovic does. She played before Turkey in Vizura in Serbian league which is definetly worse than CVL and without lot of money.
