  • Some news about korean NT:

Korea is planning to take definite advantage of their height because their main opponent, thailand is very short.

In interview with Lavarini, he is planning to use Park jeongah as Opp because Kim heejin's kalf injury. Also Kim played as MB in her club so he thinks Park would fit more in Opp.

He is planning to use yang hyojin's middle high ball attack, which was banned before. He says it is not fit with his strategy but the main opponent is small so he could allow yang attacking like that.

Captin Kim yeonkoung said they will use their good wings and heights to get victory. Though thailand has a very good defense, she thinks the team laughs at last is the team with good attacks.

Other members are going through training session very well and they will fly to thailand in January 5th.

  • that's interesting

lavarini finally allowed yang hyojin's high ball attack

what's even better, the setter is lee dayeong, her club's teammate who work well with her style

I still prefer kim heejin more than park jungah

heejin's cross court attack is really deadly

we'll see..maybe park jungah can deliver well this time

  • Does any korean fan know what is Yang Hyo Jin's real spike and block reach stats are? What is available online seem to suggest she spike and block at 340 and 338 cm respectively. If that is true, that's awesome for her and way to go girl, but sounds more like a male player by the same name's stats perhaps?

and yeah, that's even higher than KYK's stats

LOL volleybox has her at 287 and 280 respectively. If we average those she's at 313 and 309

I don't think there's any female player with a spike reach more than 320 (as far as I remember Akinradewo has the highest reach among active players). There are only very few top MBs who is above 310. And block reach is generally 5-10 cm is lower than spike reach

  • In Korea they don't accurately measure the actual spike and block heights. I think they just randomly submit it.

In real matches Yang hyojin's attack height is around 280-290, so if she jumps high, I think she could reach around 300. Block height would be less 5-10cm less.

Plus YKK has reached 310+ in her golden age in a game which means she could reach 320 in practice. I've never seen a player reach 310 in real matches.😬😬 I have seen Zhu or Yuan(I don't remember well) reach 308 in world cup.

Btw, other countries submit spike/block height accurately? When I check other countries chart, I thought it was too overestimated.

I think if it's from an official site that is related to that player's federation, I think those are probably more accurate, vs say a wiki page where anybody can edit the information.

YHJ's stats always stood out to me whenever I see her stats online somewhere, so I was just curious.

How's thailand's atmosphere about this OQ?

And who do you expect for the starting six?

Setter would be T. Nootsara, MB would be T. Pleumjit and N. Thatdao, Libero would be P. Piyanut, but I can't easily expect who will come out for OH, Opp.

I guess K. Pimpichaya will come out for Opp, and S. Onuma, K. malika for OH. Am I right?

They are so similar in type and abilities so I cannot easily guess who will be the starting 6.

  • They seem pretty focus to make it this time around and will try their best. This could very well be the last time to try and qualify for the golden gen of girls( Nootsara, Pleumjit, Onuma, Wilavan and Malika). I think all will retire after 2020, though probably not all at the same time.

my guess on starting 6 are

    S: Pornpun

OH: Onuma + Chatchu-on and subs are Wilavan and Ajcharaporn

OP: Pimpichaya and Malika as sub

    MB: Pleumjit + Thatdao

    L: Piyanut

usually Ajcharaporn would have been starter, but I don't think she is in form yet as was seen during the recent SEA games. But I hope she is a lot better now.

  • Why do you think Pornpun will be starter over Nootsara?

  • Why do you think Pornpun will be starter over Nootsara?

If recent trends is anything to go by, Pornpun tends to be starter as she is more of an offensive/tactical setter and Nootsara is a more technical and defensive one. As of late, Nootsara has been coming in for subs when the game needs a change of pace or the team is in trouble. But since this is an important tournament, the more experienced Nootsara may very well be starter.

  • Asian OQ starts today!

  • I really need Kim Hee Jin to step up her game. Her spikes aren't as strong as it used to be. She's not strategic with her hits.

I think KYK and Kim Jae Yong will do great. Full confidence in them. Hee Jin and Park Jung Ah, I worry about.

  • South Korean's matches in the group stage will be televised by MBN http://www.mbn.co.kr/vod/onair# (Official Stream) but you will need a VPN for Sth. Korea.

Alternatively you can try this one:

I think KYK and Kim Jae Yong will do great.

Just a reminder, Jae-Yeong surname is "Lee" not "Kim".

  • As expected, easy win for 1st game

A bit shaky 1st set, but after that, smooth play. Lots of aces too.

Park Jungah really need to step up her game more since it looks like Kim Heejin haven't recover from injury yet. And it's a big gap to fill.

I think Kim heejin could skip whole tournament.

It's so sad because her club's head coach force her to play while she was in injury. Wish a good luck for Park jeongah!
