The key difference is Bruno seems more relaxed and clear-headed. When he is in that state, Brazil can do good things.

Well, the key in the first match was that Brazil was really off, specially Bruno. His sets lacked of accuracy in those three sets played. Nevertheless, it was surprising cuz Russia won 3-0 despite of Mikhaylov didnt have a good match. By the middle of the second set, he was 5/15 in attacks. Poor efficiency for a player like this. Volkow and Yakovlev showed up in that match.
Now, it is a different story. We can see how not only Bruno is on, but also Leal and all the others. Thales is playing much better than in preliminary round. Not stellar performance, but at least not with iron feet.
The odds before the match were 1.75 to 2.55 for Brazil. Which I also find a bit too wide. I thought it would be closer. Anyway, the odds have been really strange in these Olympics. The best example was Italy as favourite yesterday against Serbia, by a good margin

Brazil obviously had momentum in set #1, Russia had to increase serve pressures on Brazil, at the same time reduce the serve errors. Otherwise it's a tough game for Russia as we know Russia's reception is a loophole.
I am still confused why the coach brought Golu here. We've seen his poor performance in Kazan this season.
