Japan - V.League V1 (Division 1, Women) 2020-2021

  • sitenoise how are the setters of Toyota? I recently saw a rumor of Pornpun going there next season? But no pudding to support that rumor yet. Hahaha

IMO setter is empty at Toyota. Momoko Higane was a favorite of mine but retired after 2018-19 (her younger sister joined Hisamitsu in the summer of 2019 but mysteriously retired due to illness before the season started). It would be very interesting, and welcome if Pornpun joined Toyota.

  • now there is rumors of Nootsara going to Hisamitsu Spring. That's 3 THA players. If any of those rumors eventually comes true, even more Thai spectators will be watching JVL and some will might even travel to watch the games(assuming outsiders are able to travel by that time). And I can enjoy my replay matches on the weekend again. lol

I felt bad for Ayano (Nakaoji) Kojima (S) last season. She returned from maternity retirement only to participate in Hisamitsu's inexplicable tank. If Hisamitsu gets Foluke and Nootsara I won't enjoy rooting against a team with a couple of my favorite players, but I'll do it :rolll:

Who's the third besides Nootsara and Pornpun? Hattaya? Pimpichaya? I forget

yeah, I was surprised HS didn't do so well last season, since they usually are the yearly winners for many season's now.

Foluke and Nootsara has experience playing together before. And Foluke is a similar Pleumjit type of player too, just taller...im already liking that idea, hope it bears fruition...though i think I'll root for the other 2 players team more, just because they are more underdogs in Tomkom's presence ^^

  • V.LEAGUE announced their 20-21 schedule.

One League of 12 teams, no more conferences. 22 matches in total (2x vs all opponents)

regular season starts October 17 and Ends Feb. 14.

    Final round will be broken into 3 4-team pools (1-4, 5-8, 9-12)

semifinals will be on Saturday, Feb. 20, Finals on Feb. 21 with the semifinal winners And losers battling for the final positions.

    no mention yet about promotion/relegation.

all V2 teams minus GSS Tokyo Sunbeams, Ohno Oil Hiroshima Oilers and the new Forest Leaves Kumamoto have S1 licenses and are available for promotion (all classified as of today with the license status).

  • Hmm ... they call this a "shortened schedule" (for sake of OG training, not Covid) yet the Regular Season ends FEB 14 whereas last year's Reg Round ended January 4 and the FINAL FINAL was held on January 26. Hmm ... I say.

Also, and this seems cool, there appears to be this thing called the V-Cup which is scheduled to start February 27: "Japanese national team candidates will not participate in this tournament, we are expecting the appearance of the new heroine of the next Tokyo Olympics, mainly young players".

[Update] From the Chairman: "in addition to relay distribution by official broadcasting partner DAZN, match relay with the cooperation of each TV station, I want to expand the broadcast on V.TV, the official video distribution service of V League. We are. In addition to V1 matches, we would like to increase the number of broadcast matches for V2 and V3 matches.

    :woohoo:

  • According to the V.League site, this page ... there will be V1/V2 promotion/relegation matches.

I don't understand how the V1 "Final Stage" works exactly**, but as long as the NoSmilers win all their matches they'll keep advancing :P

    Quote

**Depending on the results of the V/Regular Round, the V/Final Stage (final ranking decision match) will be held in 3 groups, 1st-4th, 5th-8th, and 9th-12th. On the first day, the top team and the bottom team in the group will be played, and the next highest team and the next team will be played. On the second day, the losing teams from the first day of the match will be played against each other, and the winning teams from the first day will be played against each other.

    --------------------

I'm overjoyed by this V-Cup thing. It's essentially a 3rd Round, a single Round Robin (as best as I can Google understand), where all the teams will play without any of their members who were invited to the NT training camp. Brute Force!

"At this tournament, we are expecting the appearance of the new heroine of the Next Tokyo Olympics, centered on young players." I take this to mean that the V-Cup MVP will join the NT squad (not really, but it would be very cool thing to do)

  • Final Stage is literally semifinals then finals for each of the 3 levels.

9-12 in regular season are battling to stay up if they win. Losers will then battle determine who they play in Challenge Match (if team does have S1 license).

Cup is split into 2 groups of 6 and play one match against each of the team, so give matches. Top 2 teams advance to semifinals and final.

Ahh ... so discrete group action. 1st through 4th is the real SF/F battle. 5th-8th is for mid-level bragging rights, and 9th-12th is about who will play Brilliant Aries and Gumma Bank. I think I get it now, thanks.

I was trying to figure out how the winners of each group would face each other in some kind of Final 3 nightmare and a team who finished 9-12 would have a shot at the title :rolll:

    The V-Cup "Conferences":

    Group A:

JT Marvelous, Okayama Seagulls, Denso AiryBees, Toyota Body Queens, SAGA Hisamitsu Springs, Himeji Victorina

    Group B:

Saitama Ageo Medics, Toray Arrows, NEC Red Rockets, Hitachi Rivale, KUROBE Aqua Fairies, PFU Blue Cats

  • Can anyone update the schedule of the conference here pls? For reference. I think the jvl already posted the schedule and format. Thanks

League posted the schedule on the 1st. The cup schedule has not been set.

sitenoise is probably working on it shortly.

just noticed that the men will play 36 matches (4x against each opponent) in their league. Then single match semifinal and final.

  • fyi - I updated the first post in this thread with my best understanding of what we know and don't know about the 2020-2021 V.League format and schedule. brahmin please give it a quick scan when you get a chance. I think I understand it now, but it's hard to put into words :S

Will fill out the actual match schedule soon and continue updating the team rosters as time and ambition permits
