Japan - V.League V1 (Division 1, Women) 2020-2021

  • How's she doing? is her team about to replace PFU in V1?

Sadly they haven't won a game yet. 0–7 and have won only three sets, two of them in one game so they got a point! And Ranna's not doing anything to write home about.

  • I feel like those mandatory apology tweets released by Springs team are a punishment for the players. It does more harm than good and it also fans the flames. Reflecting over a loss, or whatever it was they felt was lacking should be a personal matter not something you announce to fans. I'm sure all players who experience loss wants to improve that's about all there is to know. Writing a depressing summary of what happened is even worse than gloating.

  • Kurobe emerging as this season's power players is a nice surprise. I saw how they made Okayama struggle and it seems like they gave Toray a hard time too. I don't really know any of their members aside from Simone Lee and she's blending in nicely with them

  • Kurobe are not power players at this point. Lee is the focus of the team. She is getting some help from Mabashi and MASUDA. Still in 9th place.

Hisamitsu, is working more closely with the prefecture than it had in the past. Mascot switched from a Salonpas patch to a bird. Tosu also has a J-League that is bleeding money right now, and probably has gone to the prefectural government asking for money.

PFU will probably stay up through the Challenge match and many V2 teams do not have a foreigner.

  • The amount of negative feedback Springs are getting is ridic. The players personal accounts are getting trolled. I know they've always been the team with the biggest fanbase or the loudest fans but damn it's really bad. Shion needs to never ever reply to those trolls ever or stay away from twitter for awhile.

    What happened with Shion?

Speaking of the new power players :) Kurobe's young MB #14 Aya Hosonuma gets a little love in a pickup player video blurb. I liked her right away when she showed up last year. She's a little hefty, not too fast but seems to know the game and makes some smart moves. She's really the only MB Kurobe has.

What is going on with that thumbnail.

For some reason I thought she was the captain? is she not the captain? There was Kurobe feature last year where she was interviewed and she totally stole the spotlight from Ranna. Oh man she's cute too but also is she the first one from Kurobe to get an official player feature from V.League?

V.League is video-challenged. We just have to live with it :white:

Kurobe's captain is the coach's daughter #1 Saki Maruyama. She's good and all, and seems captain-y. Defensive specialist/OP/libero. Aya Hosonuma is too young to be captain but she does have some personality. She got the post game interview after a recent match, I can't remember which one. I think she's a cutie as well. I go for these pensive type photos of players:

ooof she's even thicker than Mabashi and I thought Mabashi was pretty thiccccc

I need to remember her from now on

You stats guy you :) Simone is getting the most swings but not by much (she is a match short, tho):

    Mabashi 107/286/19 errors @37.4% (25th in league)

    Masuda 108/335/18 errors @32.2% (44th inleague)

    Lee 132/388/28 errors @34% (33rd in league)

Mabashi has the same number of blocks as Lee - 12. Masuda and Mabashi do all the reception 56% / 59%. I'd characterize this as Masuda and Mabashi getting some help from Lee.

When push comes to shove at the end of the season, especially if Kurobe plays the Challenge game, they'll throw a bunch more to Lee, but I'm impressed with what Mabashi especially, and Masuda are doing. They're the ones who have made Kurobe a wild card, imo.

  • ooof she's even thicker than Mabashi and I thought Mabashi was pretty thiccccc

Aya's trimmed a bit. When I first described her last year it was: 'she doesn't just have a belly, she's got a spare tire'. That's unusual for a young Japanese woman. But she carries it well and is a lot of fun.

I don't think Mabashi is thick :/ Google- image her. She's got a lot of swanky photos out there. She's like a runway model the way she carries her body. Very photogenic, imo

  • Re-watching SAGA v NoSmilers.

At 23–23 Set 1, Miyashita comes in to serve for Watanabe, but Ugajin stays in the front row. NoSmiler back row is Miyashita, Narasaki, Nishimura. That's a serious back row. At 24–24 Kaneda comes in front for Nishimura but Miyashita stays in the back with Ugajin setting from the front until they win the set 27–25. We didn't get a Ugajin / Miyashita play, but betting on defense with your Setter as Defensive Specialist is so Okayama  Haruka

  • Why is Kotoki Zayasu on the hate list? Is it from Rio era drama? She seems good in her role.

  • In a way I'm a little relieved Saga doesn't have a match next week but also kinda sad that Nagaoka's comeback is officially a bust. Whew they really blew it.

The way she played a full set in a match against Kurobe and still lost ...that hit different and I still can't get over it lol. Maybe Miyu will just be benched for the rest of the 2nd leg:gone: I would still like to see her have her moment though.

  • What happened with Shion?

I don't know what went down exactly but Shion was replying to a bunch of trolls and the top tweet had like 40 replies. It was after the match and I was already at my limit. The only tweet I was able to google translate was saying how people shouldn't jump to conclusions and some sort of mental health thing it didn't translate well.
