South Korea - Women's V-League 2020-2021

  • KGC is forcing Diouf way too much and it's not working. On the other hand the Pink Spiders actually look like a team again! KYK is playing great <3 and her teammates are helpfull as well. Also for a setter that hasn't had much time to shine ever I think Dasol was not bad at least today.

  • What a performance today! Emotionally the greatest game of the season! Bring on the playoffs NOW!

I don't give an F which team between IBK or Hi-pass finishes third.

I'll be happy if Hi-pass makes it. We'd witness V-League's greatest winner, Clutch Park, burn up the court during her favorite season. 7 straight finals, 4 championships. That's a Lebronesque record! She'll have a chance to go for 8 and 5 (since last season was cancelled)! What a narrative that would be! This is an aging team, with a lot of old legs, so it's pretty much one of their last opportunities to go for it all. A great farewell finish. The question marks will be Kelsie's ability in the clutch (which has not always been there this year) and Lee Go-eun.

I'll be happy if IBK makes it. I want to see Lazareva's prowess in big moments. So much skill. She possesses a destructive combination of speed, POWER and flexibility that I don't remember ever seeing in V-League. Will it be redemption time for Kim Hee-jin, who has sucked all season. An IBK with an alive Kim Hee-jin is absolutely scary. Her team has that kind of record without her performing. Imagine what they could do when she's alive! We know she always steps up in big games. But first you gotta get there... I worry very much about their OH lineup. Pyo Seung-ju is about as bipolar as a player can get. She's never been asked to be THE leader before in her career, so I want to see how she reacts in big moments when the opposing team targets the hell out of her on the serve. She has a tendency to go on huge stretches of receiving errors when she makes a mistake. In championship games, when every single point is important, you need a short memory and move on to the next play quick.

And don't take Heungkuk for dead either! A pair of KYK and Kim Mi-yeon is as good as anything else in the league. GS Caltex's So-So duo has more balance, but neither of them can take over a game the way KYK does. When she's in the back, she's a second libero with a killer back row attack. Give her the ball! When she's in front, she can shut you down. Just imagine a wall of KYK-Kim Seyoung-Bruna. Tallest block in Korea. Kim Mi-yeon has clutch genes. She'll eat those spikes in the back row. I do worry a bit about her reception. Her serve should be good to steal a few points every game. There are some people that just seem to get you those few points when you need them the most. Kim Mi-yeon is one of them. Everything will depend on who the real Bruna is. If she plays like her first games, Heungkuk will get spanked. If she delivers like today, Pink Spiders might not win, but they'll give a good fight. Kim Da-sol is of course a huge question mark. IMO, she should just keep it simple. Don't try anything crazy, just stable and accurate, and she should be OK. Her lack of height is a problem. Especially if you end up with Kim Mi-yeon-Middle Blocker-Kim Da-sol in front. You could solve that by putting KMY as OP so that KMY and KDS never end up on the same row. But then, you can't get KYK and Bruna on the same row... Arbitrage, Arbitrage!

For a nice ending! Let's go!

Congratulations to GS Caltex Seoul KIXX on securing a place in the playoffs. One playoffs spot remaining.

  • Congratulation to Lee So-Young for winning the Round 5 MVP award.

An important match for both Korea Expressway and GS Caltex today for different reasons. Korea Expressway wants to get back third-place and move ahead of IBK Altos. Whilst GS Caltex wants to catch Heungkuk the league leader who was until two days ago look very vulnerable.

Korea Expressway throws the first punch and takes the opening set. However, GS Caltex has beaten Korea Expressway in all 5 of their meetings this season, only dropping 3 sets (now 4) and losing just 1 victory point.

  • Congrats to PS and GS for securing their places in the playoffs.

PS' match against KGS was probably the best match I've watched in this season thus far. After all they've been through, getting back up and focusing (and eventually winning it) was such a feat! I know KYK has some awesome leadership skills, but it's a whole different level in that match. New found awe for her.

I've always like GS' teamwork and their bond. 3rd place... IBK seems to have many problems within the team (wings aren't working, centers are on-off, heavy reliance on Anna, and having the worst coach in the league) , and HI-pass, not great, but have it better than IBK.

The emotional side of me wants PS to win it after what they've gone through. Logical side of me wants GS to get it. Teamwork makes the dream work.

Actually, I'm more interested in the NT after the league ends. Who will Lavarini choose for the VNL and OG? Thats a separate topic for another day.

  • GS Caltex just didn't want to lose even though Ahn Hye Jin's setting today was mostly all over and Lee Won Jeong came in middle of 4th set to somewhat stablize things.

With the performance of Ahn Hye Jin today, I don't really see how she can be picked as NT setter, just too erratic.

Anyways, with the awakening of Bruna, I guess it will be a nail biting finish, let's see who will win the championship!
