I love Mayu Ishikawa for being the only Japanese player who knows how to swing hard at a loose ball
-

Yes yes yes

oh no koga...................
It wasn't a "blow to the head" . She twisted her ankle on the way down from the block . oh no is right
-
Please please please please please don't let it be bad

I hope they can learn from Mayu, this is my least favorite about Japan – when a play is off system and a set is coming from the back, or the set was higher than usual, they always resort to roll shots which in my opinion is basically a free ball.

I think they are instructed to roll 'em and Mayu is a rebel

I can't look at it again
-
ouch

if it's a minor injury how long is it gonna take to recover?
-
She wont be returning on the olympic court soon for sure. I hope i am wrong.

:O is this confirmed?
edit: Oh I can't read sorry, you said 'I hope Im wrong''

Ishii needs to get it together. Are we allowed to replace Koga in the rosters if she's deemed unable to continue? With Ishii playing as the main and only Hayashi as the remaining sub, Okumura might need to start practicing hitting from the outside. 🙂

I don't know but it didn't look minor
btw - in case you weren't watching the NBC feed, "blow to the head" is what he kept saying is what happened to her
-
If its only her ankle, and just a twist/sprain - and not a crucial ligament, knee injury or really bad sprain.
I think she can return on court in time after 1-2 weeks (though with taping, physio, spray)
Better to wait till after Pools to return (so she can recover more & focus on helping Japan advance)But good(?) thing is Japan is facing their weaker opponents (Korea & Dom) in the latter half of pools 1 week later, if Japan really needs her to return
personally returned on field to play football (soccer) competitively after 2 weeks though my sprain caused my ankle to swell up like a ball lol (needed taping, physio and painkillers)
But running is easier than vertical jumping for an ankle injury I guess

lol nbc
but rewatching the clip, i do wonder if the her landing leg might've collided with the kenyan player coming down from a spike
she didn't cross the line when landing, but I don't know how else Koga's landing leg could've went off & landed so awkwardly

Maybe Nakada is gonna regret not bringing Nabeya and opting for 4 MBs instead... but no one could have predicted this
