In any case, I don't think any national team program could accept sacrificing results at a world championship to develop a specific position. Karch made the right call (for once) imo.
Maybe the ONLY exception is when you have a home olympics coming up.

Finishing 5th was embarrassing. 2018 should've been used as a shift of the old guard into the new... but that happened a year too late (2019 VNL)
You don't know that when you're choosing the players. If USA finished 3rd would you still say it was a bad choice to move Krob to libero in 2018 and back to OH in 2019?
of course, if you already know you're gonna finish 5th for some reason, then yeah bring in the new girls, who cares if you finish 5th or 9th, get them some experience! But Karch couldn't know that.
